Photographer Wouter Nekkers (Nekx fotografie) (Netherlands)
Introduce yourself to our readers: I'm Wouter Nekkers, 38 years young, a hairdresser and make-up artist for 25
years and I've been running my own business for 13 of those years. I'm also a photographer/drag queen/ PMU
and hair tattoo specialist and very active in the world. in short, I'm a busy bee and I do everything with passion.
How and when did you start photography? I slowly started photographing in 2019. I worked a lot as a hairdresser/visagist
behind the scenes at tv shows, fashion shows and also at photo shoots. I had already been participating
in the Dutch coiffure awards for 10 years with success but then I made the hairstyles and worked in front of
the lens together with top photographer Otto van den Toorn. After all these experiences I had this something I
should and want to be able to do this myself and that's what I did then. so I went behind the lens myself.
What does photography mean to you? Photography means a lot to me, I can express all my creativity this way.
but also my emotions and they sometimes shoot in all directions. But also working together with your model to
create something together. I'm really a team player.
What distinguishes your work from others? I think that through my lens you see the passion of a hairdresser/
visualist who always wants to make a beautiful picture. So the passion and emotion.
Where do you get your inspiration from? My inspiration comes from a lot, I can get inspiration just walking
through the forest. But I do think I get the most inspiration from the people I work with. People's energy gives
me inspiration!
Do you think about what you want in the photo beforehand? Generally speaking, yes. I usually discuss this
with my model for that day. This is also to empathise with each other about what we want to achieve together
so that the picture will look as good as possible. But certainly also to give myself and the model some peace of
mind and a little confidence.
