Paid Advertisement The Columbus Air Show will be held June 14-16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rickenbacker International Airport, 2241 John Circle Drive, Columbus. The Columbus Air Show was reorganized as a newly formed show in 2023. The 2024 show will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as the headline performers. The event attracts more than 50,000 guests. Event organizers recently announced the initial lineup of aircraft participating at this year’s show. FCBA formed in 2019 to give beekeepers in or near Fairfield County a place to mingle with other beekeepers, learn about best management practices, provide outreach to the community about honey bees and the environment, and attract and train new beekeepers. When the club was told last November that it needed to find a new meeting place, the Central Ohio Coon Hunters Club, on Coonpath Road, offered their club house as a meeting place and a big open field for FCBA’s apiary. The Coon Hunters Club does conservation projects and plans to create an insect-friendly field of wildflowers. They were hoping to attract some bees and other pollinators to their property. Each November, news about the FCBA Beginner Beekeeping Scholarship goes out to schools, 4-H and agriculture groups, and to military veterans. The club offers scholarships covering a class, hives and bees, plus year-long mentoring for the scholarship recipients. Then in early spring, before the bees come out of their winter clusters, FCBA offers day-long educational trainings about how to begin beekeeping. The club helps newcomers get their woodenware hives and order bees. Once spring weather comes, the club offers twice monthly training in their training bee yard (apiary) for the new beekeepers. Experienced mentors are also assigned to those “NewBees” that want them. • PT-26 CAFE Buckeye Wing • L-39 • Scottish Aviation Bulldog • CAFE Minnesota Wing- Rise Above P-51 Mustang Red Tail The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Team and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet Demonstration Team lead a world-class lineup of performers who will take to the skies at the Columbus Air Show. In addition to the Ohio ANGI KC-135 Stratotrainer, other military aircraft flying will include two F-15 Eagles, the U.S. Air Force F-35A and World War IHI-era planes such as the F4U Corsair, P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang and many others. The event will also feature Battlefield Europe, a WINI battle reenactment that will help commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, as well as the second annual STOLA Drag Columbus Cup Air Races. Beekeeper group marks its fifth anniversary Crowd at the bee yard. The club meets monthly, providing an educational speaker at each meeting, a chance to win a bee related door prize (all donated) and time to hang out and talk bees with other beekeepers. FCBA member volunteers do many outreach activities, like presentations for adult or young people’s groups and provide a huge display of hands-on artifacts about bees, activities for kids and a live observation hive at many festivals and fairs around Fairfield County. FCBA will have a live demonstration in the bee yard and a booth of hands-on artifacts for the Central Oho Coon Hunters Family Day in June. FCBA also sells raw, local honey from its members. FCBA meets every month except December on the third Tuesday of the month, at 7 p.m. The training bee yard is scheduled to meet at the club apiary on the property, at 6 p.m. on the Tuesday of the club meeting. There is typically another training yard demonstration on another Tuesday in the month, at 6 p.m. as well. Information about scheduled bee yard dates are on the group’s Facebook page. Visitors are welcome to attend a meeting to learn more. All proceeds from the auction support the club. Pictured here auctioning off some of the dozens of fine greenery are club member Joe Stewart (left) and Marla Baker, of Sticks and Stones Studio in Canal Winchester, who led the auction. “We raised $1,589 between the raffle and the plant auction,” said Groveport Garden Club President Lacy Cooper. The club’s Groveport Garden Tour will be June 23 from noon to 5 p.m. (rain or shine). Tour tickets are free. Tour tickets will also be available for in-person pick-up at Groveport Town Hall, Groveport Recreation Center, and the Groveport Senior Center beginning June 11. The Groveport Garden Club will also maintain the herb garden at the Nature Center (log house) at Heritage Park and has rented a plot at the Groveport Community Garden where it will grow some produce to donate to the Groveport Food Pantry. Activities along Wirt Road on July 3 include: live music performances by Mama Drama at 5 p.m., Devin Henry at 6:30 p.m., and Crush Bon Jovi Experience at 8 p.m.; food trucks; family activities; and fireworks at dusk accompanied by music on radio frequency 88.3. Activities on July 4 include: •Red, White, and Kids Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Staging at 10 a.m. on the Groveport Elementary playground and parking at Middle School Central. Parade starts at 751 Main St., goes west on Main Street and south on Oak Street to Crooked Alley KidSpace, 630 Wirt Road. •Main Fourth of July Parade begins at 11 a.m. Staging at the Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road, at 8 a.m. Parade starts at Richardson Road and goes west on Main Street, then north on Hendron Road, and ending at Glendening Elementary. Groveport history films Two documentary films on the history of Groveport, produced by the Groveport Heritage Society and Midnet Media, are now available for viewing online on YouTube.
