Memorial Day
Messenger photos by Rick Palsgrove
An honor guard leads the way during the traditional Memorial Day parade in
Groveport on May 27. A ceremony was held in Groveport Cemetery where
American Legion Robert Dutro Post Commander Joshua Saunders said of
Memorial Day, “It is a day of solemn contemplation of the cost of freedom.” Also
speaking at the ceremony, Motts Military Museum Director Warren Motts said,
“Today is a remembrance of all those who died for their country. We must remember
all those who gave their lives.” Guest speaker at the ceremony was Captain
(retired) Greg Keller of the 179th Airlift Wing Ohio National Guard. Keller told stories
of several veterans and their experiences and concluded with, “All gave some.
Some gave all.” (Below) Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp (left) and Captain Greg
of Allegiance during the ceremony. See more photos on page 16 and online at
More people seek help
By Rick Palsgrove
Groveport Editor
Groveport Madison Human Needs is
seeing an increase of requests for help, plus
it is seeking support for a new initiative to
help kids.
According to its website at gmhn.org,
Groveport Madison Human Needs is “a
community-based non-profit, that strives
to assist residents in crisis.”
Speaking at Groveport City Council’s May
13 meeting, GMHN Secretary Lori Cuthbert
said, “We are seeing an alarming increase in
the number of clients seeking help.”
Groveport Madison Human Needs helps
with rent, utilities, needed prescriptions,
and small vehicle repairs.
She said in January, February, and
March, the organization helped about 12 to
14 clients each month. But in April that
number jumped to 24 and by mid-May they
had helped 11.
“The main reason for the increased
number of families is the cost of living,”
GMHN Director Debbie Miller said in an
interview. “The increased utility bills, the
high rents being charged, and the cost of
food to feed the family.”
Miller said they are receiving more calls
for assistance with the breakdown from
most to least being electric bills, rent,
water bills, and gas bills.
Miller said the main requirement for
people seeking help is that they must live
in the Groveport Madison School District.
“After that, have they received a shutoff
or eviction notice? What is the amount
needed to keep the utility on?” said Miller.
“We can assist with $200 for a utility and
$300 for rent. Our they able to pay the
remaining balance? This must be done
before we make our assistance payment.”
“We also give out book bags and school
supplies (in August before school starts
and until we run out),” added Miller. “And
of course, Adopt-A-Family at Christmas.
We work with the social workers of each
school in the district and that’s where the
families apply for Christmas blessings.”
Cuthbert said Groveport Madison
Human Needs is fully funded “by generous
people who are willing to support and help
our neighbors. More specifically, we rely on
support and donations from a handful of
local congregations and generous people
and organizations within our community.”
Cruiser Closet
Groveport Madison Human Needs has
started a new initiative called Cruiser
Closet to support kids in Groveport
Madison Schools for when a child has an
accident at school, has no change of clothing,
and has to miss school to go home to
change.
“We will be filling ‘closets’ with such
items of various size as sweatpants, sweatshirts,
t-shirts, and leggings, in addition to
a few hygiene items,” said Cuthbert.
To help raise money for Cruiser Closet,
the organization is holding a nine hole golf
scramble at the Groveport Municipal Golf
Course, 1005 Richardson Road, on July 19
with a 5:30 p.m. shotgun start. To register
or for sponsor opportunities, contact
Cuthbert at 614-565-3516, email
GMHNSecretary@gmail.com or visit
gmhn.org.
“We applied for a grant through Fruit of
the Loom to help fund our new Cruiser
Closet initiative, but we were turned
down,” said Cuthbert. “Not to say that we
can’t try again. We are planning to apply
for a couple more next month.”
New school building process progressing
By Rick Palsgrove
Groveport Editor
The Groveport Madison Board of Education moved
the district’s Master Facility Plan for new buildings
forward by approving the Notice of Conditional
Approval and sending it on to the Ohio Facilities
Construction Commission.
The board’s vote was 3-2 with board members John
Kershner and Kathleen Walsh opposing it.
The plan calls for replacing the district’s existing six
elementaries and three middle schools with:
•Three new elementary schools for grades K-4 with
a capacity of 866 students each;
•Three new middle schools for grades 5-8 with a
capacity for 706 students each; and
•Additions to the high school that include space for
expanding the student dining area, storage areas, and
career tech at the rear portion near Cruiser Stadium
and a two story classroom addition at the southeast
corner of the building.
The project has an estimated total Ohio Facilities
Construction Commission (OFCC) co-funded cost of
$273.1 million. It could be done in two phases with the
high school addition and middle schools being built
first at a cost of $134.8 million. Then the new elementary
schools could be constructed in a later phase at an
estimated total OFCC co-funded cost of $107.1 million.
SHP Architects representative Josh Predovich said
the district is in line to receive Ohio Facilities
Construction Commission funding for 53 percent of the
cost of the project with local funding providing 47 percent.
He said there could also be locally funded initiatives,
such as for things like a middle school auditorium,
that would have to be funded 100 percent locally.
There will also be abatement and demolition costs. For
the new middle schools and high school additions the
cost would be funded with $71.4 million in state funds
and $77.2 million in local funds. The local funds
include $13.9 million in locally funded initiatives. A 37
year bond issue for the new middle schools and high
school additions could cost the owner of a $100,000
home an additional $84 annually in property taxes.
For a $166,200 home, which is the median home value
in the district, it would be an additional $139.61 annually
in property taxes.
According to Predovich:
•Two new middle schools would be built in the
northern part of the district - one at the current Middle
School North site and the other on land the district
owns on Noe-Bixby Road. One middle school would be
built in the southern portion of the district at the
Middle School South site.
•There would be two new elementaries built in the
north - one at the current Dunloe Elementary site and
the other at the current Sedalia Elementary site. An
alternative new elementary site could be on land the
district owns in Independence Village, but there are
concerns that this site may be too small. An elementary
school would be built in the southern part of the
district at the existing Glendening Elementary site,
but a second option would be to build this new school
at the current Groveport Elementary site where the
baseball fields now stand.
Groveport Madison officials have stated overcrowding
is a central issue facing the district, but other factors
considered in the facilities planning process
included the age, condition, efficiency, adaptability,
and cost to maintain the existing elementary and middle
schools.
Kershner opposed the Master Facility Plan previously
stating, the district must make sure it errs
toward enough space and “not cut it tight” as well as
concerns he has about what future student transportation
costs would be under this plan.
Walsh questioned several aspects of the plan,
including what would happen to the existing properties
once the existing schools are demolished and that
she believes larger school buildings do not benefit students
and that smaller, more community based schools
are more efficient. Other questions she had included
what the future student transportation costs would be
and what the costs would be if more land is needed.
Groveport Madison Superintendent Jamie Grube
said larger schools are more efficient than smaller
schools. Speaking at the May 20 Groveport City Council
meeting, Grube said larger buildings are more efficient
because the district can offer all its programs in such a
facility rather than having them scattered in various
buildings. He said, though the buildings are large, they
can be made to feel and operate like a small school.
Visit gocruisers.org for more information on the
Master Facility Plan process.
Next steps
The district could consider placing a bond issue for
new buildings on the November 2024 ballot or May
2025 ballot. The Ohio Facilities Construction
Commission considers schools for the next round of
state funding in July.
If the board wants to place a bond issue on the
November 2024 ballot, the board must approve a project
agreement by June. Then, to place a bond issue on
the November ballot, the board must file with the
county auditor in July and with the Franklin County
Board of Elections in August. If the board wishes to
wait to place a bond issue on the May 2025 ballot, then
the ballot filings would be made in January and
February of 2025.
Speaking at Groveport City Council’s May 20 meeting,
Predovich said, if the bond issue passes, it would
take a year for design work and then two years to construct
the buildings, so the new schools could open in
the fall of 2027.
Enrollment and capacity
Enrollment in Groveport Madison is expected to
increase by 626 students in the next 10 years, which is
about 9 percent. This increase includes a projected 72
more students in grades PK-5; 153 in grades 6-8; and
401 in grades 9-12 (including 139 in career tech).
Predovich noted that the district must also add in the
number of students currently housed in modular classrooms
when considering the size of new buildings.
Master Facility Plan background
District officials considered the following options:
•Renovations or additions on existing elementary
and middle schools plus an addition to the high school.
•Constructing all new elementaries and middle
schools plus an addition to the high school.
•Combination of new construction and renovations
and additions to the existing elementary and middle
schools plus an addition to the high school.
Predovich said, according to the OFCC, if renovation
costs exceed two-thirds the cost of replacing a
building, the state recommends replacing the building.
The district would have to meet state requirements to
get a waiver to make renovations for buildings above
this limit.
According to 2023 OFCC figures, all of the district’s
elementaries and middle schools exceed this two-thirds
limit with Asbury at 89 percent; Dunloe at 91 percent;
Glendening at 83 percent; Groveport at 99 percent;
Madison at 88 percent; Sedalia at 67 percent; Middle
School North at 78 percent; Middle School South at 77
Memorial Day, 1946
Our Pictorial Past by Rick Palsgrove
On Memorial Day in 1946, the Groveport
Lions Club dedicated a stone memorial to
those area men and women who served in
World War II. Groveport in those days had
no official “town square,” so the front lawn
of Groveport High School (now Groveport
Elementary) was chosen as a prominent
spot for the stone memorial. The school
yard was an appropriate setting as the
school was a place where all the local veterans
shared a common experience of life
in their school days. The ceremony included
music by the high school band; speeches
by Mayor J. R. Buchman, American
Legion Robert Dutro Post 486 Commander
Carl Benson, Spanish-American War veteran
Frederick Mills, World War I veteran
Stephen McClish, Malcolm Sims of the U.S.
Army, and State Senator Roscoe Walcutt.
Gold Star mother Mazie Palsgrove, whose
son Harold died in World War II, laid flowers at the base of the memorial stone during the ceremony. The memorial stone is a
large Ohio boulder emblazoned with a simple plaque that reads: “Erected in honor of those men and women of this community
who served in the armed forces during the Second World War and the following occupation.” The stone rests in the northeast
corner of the Groveport School front lawn near the intersection of Wirt Road and Main Street and still be seen there today.
Placing the stone as this site ensured it would be seen by many people on a daily basis. Nestled in the soft, green grass, the
stone is an elegantly simple reminder of the profound sacrifice made by the members of the Groveport Madison community in
service to their country. Coupled with the stone memorial is a list of those from the community who served in World War II.This
“Roll of Honor” is located in the foyer of Groveport Elementary. A gold star is affixed beside the names of those who lost their
lives during the war.
Why Supporting Small
Business MATTERS!
Dear Neighbor,
As a State Senator, small business owner, and nonprofit
CEO, I am keenly aware of the vital role that
small businesses play in our communities. In honor
of Small Business Month, I am calling all Ohioans
to get out and support their favorite small business
as your support plays a significant role in a
creating vibrant, flourishing communities. Small
businesses are the backbone of our local economy,
fostering job creation, innovation, and a unique
character that defines our neighborhoods. Beyond
their economic contributions, small businesses
have an unparalleled capacity to make a meaningful
impact on our communities through their commitment
to giving back.
When small businesses succeed, they generate
employment opportunities, helping to reduce unemployment
rates and improve the standard of living.
Every local store, restaurant, or service
provider that thrives contributes to a more robust
and resilient economy. Moreover, small businesses
often source their products locally, ensuring economic
benefits circulate within our community
and supporting other local enterprises and suppliers.
The impact of small business extends beyond economics.
I have witnessed firsthand the intersection
between business and philanthropy. Many small
businesses partner with local charities, sponsor
community events, and support local schools and
community initiatives. Such acts of generosity and
community involvement foster a sense of unity
and shared purpose, making our neighborhoods
more vibrant and cohesive.
Join me in supporting our local small business
community. Your patronage helps these companies
expand, create more jobs, and continue their
invaluable community support.
Enjoy a meal at a local restaurant, shop at a local
neighborhood store, or use a local service
provider. Whatever you choose, just know that
your support will have a direct impact on Ohio’s
economy. By supporting our small businesses,
your investing in Ohio’s economic health and contributing
to the social fabric that makes our communities
strong.
Results matter so let's make a difference together.
The Columbus Air Show will be held June 14-16 from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. at Rickenbacker International Airport, 2241 John Circle
Drive, Columbus.
The Columbus Air Show was reorganized as a newly formed
show in 2023. The 2024 show will feature the U.S. Air Force
Thunderbirds as the headline performers. The event attracts more
than 50,000 guests.
Event organizers recently announced the initial lineup of aircraft
participating at this year’s show. The list is headlined by an
array of modern military fighter aircraft, massive transport aircraft,
and the hometown KC-135 from Rickenbacker Air National
Guard Base.
“The Columbus Air Show is a family-friendly and immersive
experience, in the air and on the ground,” said Herb Gillen, president
of Herb Gillen Airships, producers of the event. “Having as
many static displays as we do gives people a chance to talk to the
people who fly and maintain the aircraft, understand how the
planes perform and their significance to the Air Force, Navy,
Marine and Air National Guard bases.”
The full list of static aircraft includes:
• USAF KC-135 Stratotrainer - 121st AROW (Rickenbacker)
The Fairfield County Beekeepers Association
marked its fifth anniversary with a new meeting
place and full Beginner Beekeeping classes.
FCBA formed in 2019 to give beekeepers in
or near Fairfield County a place to mingle with
other beekeepers, learn about best management
practices, provide outreach to the community
about honey bees and the environment, and
attract and train new beekeepers. When the
club was told last November that it needed to
find a new meeting place, the Central Ohio Coon
Hunters Club, on Coonpath Road, offered their
club house as a meeting place and a big open
field for FCBA’s apiary. The Coon Hunters Club
does conservation projects and plans to create
an insect-friendly field of wildflowers. They were
hoping to attract some bees and other pollinators
to their property.
Each November, news about the FCBA Beginner Beekeeping
Scholarship goes out to schools, 4-H and agriculture groups, and
to military veterans. The club offers scholarships covering a class,
hives and bees, plus year-long mentoring for the scholarship recipients.
Then in early spring, before the bees come out of their winter
clusters, FCBA offers day-long educational trainings about how to
begin beekeeping. The club helps newcomers get their woodenware
hives and order bees. Once spring weather comes, the club
offers twice monthly training in their training bee yard (apiary)
for the new beekeepers. Experienced mentors are also assigned to
those “NewBees” that want them.
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Jet Demonstration Team and
U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet Demonstration Team lead a
world-class lineup of performers who will take to the skies at the
Columbus Air Show. In addition to the Ohio ANGI KC-135
Stratotrainer, other military aircraft flying will include two F-15
Eagles, the U.S. Air Force F-35A and World War IHI-era planes
such as the F4U Corsair, P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang and many
others.
The event will also feature Battlefield Europe, a WINI battle
reenactment that will help commemorate the 80th anniversary of
D-Day, as well as the second annual STOLA Drag Columbus Cup
Air Races.
Crowd at the bee yard.
The club meets monthly, providing an educational
speaker at each meeting, a chance to win a
bee related door prize (all donated) and time to
hang out and talk bees with other beekeepers.
FCBA member volunteers do many outreach
activities, like presentations for adult or young
people’s groups and provide a huge display of
hands-on artifacts about bees, activities for kids
and a live observation hive at many festivals and
fairs around Fairfield County.
FCBA will have a live demonstration in the
bee yard and a booth of hands-on artifacts for the
Central Oho Coon Hunters Family Day in June.
FCBA also sells raw, local honey from its members.
FCBA meets every month except December on
the third Tuesday of the month, at 7 p.m. The
training bee yard is scheduled to meet at the club apiary on the
property, at 6 p.m. on the Tuesday of the club meeting. There is
typically another training yard demonstration on another
Tuesday in the month, at 6 p.m. as well. Information about scheduled
bee yard dates are on the group’s Facebook page.
Visitors are welcome to attend a meeting to learn more.
Information can be found on the club website at fairfieldcountybeekeepers.org
Shelterhouse collaboration project starts this fall
By Rick Palsgrove
Groveport Editor
A time is set for construction to begin on
the new shelterhouse in Cruiser Park.
“We will begin work on the shelter in
September,” said Groveport Madison High
School’s construction trades program
instructor Chad Gibbs. “The school district
and the city of Groveport have been working
diligently on the plans and zoning.”
Gibbs said the shelter will be completed
by October.
“The students will be able to 4 hours of
work daily on the project,” said Gibbs.
“Their morning will be dedicated to their
academic classes.”
The project is a collaboration between
the city of Groveport and Groveport
Madison Schools.
The shelterhouse will be 16x20 feet in
size and be located just west of the Cruiser
construction trades program, which began
in 2018, prepares students for careers in
designing, planning, managing, building,
and maintaining commercial, industrial
and residential structures and infrastructures.
Students in the program may continue
into registered apprenticeship or traditional
post-secondary programs.
The students in the construction trades
program have built several structures,
including: the new visitors’ concession
stand at Cruiser Stadium at Groveport
Madison High School; a concession stand
for the high school Cruiser baseball field;
“cubbies” created in the dugouts of the
Cruiser softball program where players can
store batting helmets, batting gloves and
field gloves; a playhouse for Little Cruisers
Preschool; a deck at the softball concession
stand; Adirondack chairs; garden sheds; a
project for the Groveport Madison Area
Community Choir; 10x10 barn sheds;
raised planters; birdhouses that were
donated to the wildlife department; projects
at the high school for classrooms; and
personal projects students keep.
Funds sought for intersection project
By Rick Palsgrove
Groveport Editor
The intersection of State Route 317 and
Firehouse Lane could get more improvements.
Groveport City Council is considering
legislation authorizing City Administrator
B.J. King to apply for funding through the
Ohio Public Works Commission for the
Phase Two improvements at the intersection.
According to Groveport City Engineer
Steve Farst, the Phase One improvements
were done in 2018-19. That improvement
included construction of the following:
southbound right turn lane into the
Groveport Madison High School campus;
pedestrian accommodation with sidewalks,
crosswalk and pedestrian signals; new
traffic signal equipment including controller,
signal poles/mast arms, signal
heads; and a preemption system to accommodate
MTFD emergency response.
“The Phase One project cost was
$567,772, which was funded from an
OPWC grant and loan to the city of
Groveport and from local contribution
from Madison Township and the Ohio
Facilitates Construction Commission
(through Groveport Madison Schools) for
‘Site Access Safety Improvements,’” said
Farst.
He said the Phase 2 improvements
would include modification to the northbound
and southbound left turn lanes to:
realign them to a position similar to the
intersection at Directors Boulevard (known
as “positive-offset”); and to extend the
length of the southbound left turn lane to
provide for more vehicle storage, and to
include modifications to traffic signal
equipment for the changes. Other ancillary
improvements may be included related
to pavement resurfacing of the intersection
area.
“The cost estimate (for Phase Two) is
not yet completed as the conceptual layout
is under review,” said Farst. “Aside from a
possible grant/loan from the OPWC, funding
sources are under review.”
Farst said the start and completion
dates for the project depend of the success
of the application for funding assistance
from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
“The intent is to possibly submit the
OPWC funding application this year, in
late August,” said Farst. “The outcome of
an application filed this season, will not be
known until December 2024. If the project
were awarded funds, and subject to
Groveport City Council approval of the
annual budget to include this project, the
construction of the project could begin as
early as late 2025, but more likely begin in
spring 2026.”
Farst said the improvements are needed
because the current intersection layout is
based on an older out-of-date ODOT design
standard in place when the highway was
designed and constructed in the 1970s.
“Due to traffic volume growth over time
as a result of local and regional changes in
land-use, population, jobs, and businesses,
traffic conditions are such that the
improvement is now appropriate,” said
Farst. “The project will make the intersection
more efficient for movement of traffic,
reduce delays, and provide added safety.”
an area in its parking lot to give residents
and visitors a safe location to conduct
child custody exchanges, property
exchanges, or a safe area to meet someone
that you may not be familiar with and/or
feel unsafe around in private. The “Safe
surveillance cameras located on the police
department building, just in case something
should happen during the exchange
period between individuals.
This area is marked with a sign on the
southeast part of the building that has
multiple security cameras monitoring the
parking lot 24 hours a day. There is also a
Call Box located by the front entrance
doors. This call box will dial a designated
phone number inside the police department
when the button on the box is pushed
and, if an officer is not at the police department
during this initial call, the call box
will immediately send the call to Franklin
A deft mixture of humor and horror
“Ladies and gentlemen, please stay
tuned for a live television first as we
attempt to commune with the Devil…But
not before a word from our sponsors.”
With the utterance of this sentence, I
knew I had stumbled upon a rare find in
the horror movie genre: a film that can slay
the audience with well placed dark humor
just as easily as it can kill as a character
you have come to adore.
Written and directed by Australian
brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes, “Late
Night with the Devil” is easily one of the
most satisfying horror movies I have seen
in quite some time. Featuring a slew of
funny moments that do not overshadow the
increasing sense of doom, this film that is
now streaming on demand is a roller coaster
of bizarre entertainment from start to
finish.
“Late Night with the Devil” opens in a
documentary-esque fashion with some of
the more memorable happenings from the
1970s. Narrated by the great voiced
Michael Ironside, we see riots, famous
you have to keep in
Jack is the ambitious and personable
host of the late night variety show Night
Owls with Jack Delroy. The company UBC
brought the popular radio announcer over
from Chicago in the hopes that he would
compete with — and ultimately conquer —
the late night King, Johnny Carson.
Although his show has gone toe-to-toe in
the ratings wars, Jack and Night Owls are
always just a step behind. “They are the
perennial also-ran,” says the narrator,
quite brutally.
With just a year left on his contract, his
his show — and their legacy — alive.
At first, his idea of keeping the show
alive involves courting controversy to grow
the audience. Turns out the people of the
1970s weren’t quite ready for a Jerry
Springer-style show just yet and he sees
the audience share plummet even more. In
a last ditch effort to stay employed, Jack
and his win-at-all-cost producer Leo Fiske
(Josh Quong Tart) plan a Halloween show
for the ages.
With the movie switching to a found
footage format, it covers the most “infamous
episode” in television history. The
show starts out normally with Jack making
political jokes and poking fun at his righthand-man
and band leader, the sweet Gus
McConnell (Rhys Auteri). And then it
starts to get a bit weird when he invites
renowned medium Christou (Fayssal
Bazzi) and the snarky magician turned
skeptic Carmichael Haig (Ian Bliss) onto
the stage.
At first, the two opposites play well off of
each other but then the atmosphere gets
strange and testy when Christou says he
feels “overwhelmed” by the spirits in the
studio. As the medium starts to get visibly
sick, Carmichael keeps explaining away
what is happening in the most bored tone
ever.
After going to commercial, behind-thescenes
footage between host and producer
has them learning that Christou has died
on his way to the hospital. Taking the old
adage of “the show must go on” to heart,
Jack keeps his crew and the entire audience
in the dark because he desperately
wants them to hear from the next two
guests: a parapsychologist named June
Ross-Mitchell (Laura Gordon) and her 13-
year-old ward Lilly (Ingrid Torelli).
Promoting her new book,
explains how Lilly was the sole survivor of
a Satanic death cult and is an occasional
host to a demon that has been nicknamed
“Mr. Wiggles. “Sometimes he wiggles his
way into my head,” says an equally sinister
and sweet-faced Lilly, “and then he wiggles
his way out.”
Knowing that he has a rating bonanza
on his hands, Jack slyly works with the
skeptic Carmichael to goad June into calling
forth Mr. Wiggles. After all, how dangerous
could a demon named Mr. Wiggles
be? It turns out he is plenty dangerous —
and plenty deadly too.
I have to say that I really wasn’t sure
what I would get with “Late Night with the
Devil.” For the most part I had heard great
things about this satirical horror prior to
renting it on demand but the story therein
also takes a bit to find a good groove. But
when the movie eventually does find that
groove, it hits all the right notes as it gradually
builds the suspense and the impending
sense of doom.
With its deft mixture of weirdness, horror,
and humor, “Late Night with the
Devil” would be a compelling watch on its
own, but what makes this film so
enthralling is the presence of David
Dastmalchian, most known as one of the
“Where have I seen him before?” character
actors. Throughout the majority of his 25-
year career in the entertainment industry,
he has been a bit player, often portraying
villainous or slightly creepy characters. In
“Late Night with the Devil,” he charms just
as well as he smarms, and you find yourself
both loving and hating the morally grey
character who unleashes hell because all
he wanted to do was be seen as a winner for
once in his life.
Township trustees consider
vacating part of Bixby Road
By Rick Palsgrove
Groveport Editor
The Madison Township trustees are
considering a request to vacate a portion of
Bixby Road right of way.
The area is part of the Barr property on
the west side of Bixby Road north of U.S.
Route 33, which has been annexed into
Columbus for residential development,
according to Madison Township
Administrator Susan Brobst.
“Part of the vacating will be to turn
some land over to the Ohio Department of
Transportation (ODOT) for the future
interchange and the rest will go to the Barr
parcel,” said Brobst. “Currently there is
nothing (no road, no buildings, etc.) in the
area being vacated.”
She said the request came from the
developer, but it involves ODOT, the
Franklin County Engineer, and the township,
then ultimately, the request must be
approved by the Franklin County
Commissioners.
“We are just waiting until ODOT gets
the necessary documents to the engineer
for review,” said Brobst. “This is a complex
multi-step process.”
The trustees could vote on the issue
once the documentation is ready.
Madison Township Public Works
Superintendent Dave Watkins said, since
ODOT is involved in this process, the
County Engineer is working with all agencies
to coordinate maps, legal descriptions,
