KEVIN BUCHANAN
(ASSISTANT REFEREE 2)
SEAN MURDOCH
(4th OFFICIAL)
Date of birth: 18 September
1983
Referee since: 2018
Date admitted to Scottish FA
list: 27th January 2022
What influenced you to
become a referee? I stopped
playing at 28 years old after
an injury warning up in a
Scottish Junior Cup game and
always wanted to get back
into Football. I tried playing
for a short time after the
injury but never enjoyed it
the same. Then in 2018, a
friend who I was working with
at the time asked if I wanted
to do the introductory course
and I have honestly never
looked back. I honestly wish I
had done it earlier.
What has been your most
memorable match as a
referee so far? It may sound
like a cliche, I enjoy every
game. However, my first
matches at every new ‘level’
will always be memorable for
personal reasons. My first
championship game at
Dunfermline is definitely one.
What is your biggest
refereeing achievement to
date? Being appointed to a
National Final today is
special.
It has also been great
progressing though the
Categories, however, being
promoted to Specialist
Assistant Referee
(Development) has to be my
biggest to date.
If you could referee a match
between any two teams and
at any venue, which teams
and where? Outwith Scotland
it would have to be Boca
Juniors v River Plate at La
Bombonera.
Who has been the best
player you have been on the
park with? I honestly couldn’t
pick one there are a lot of
very good players throughout
the leagues from the
Championship to the Juniors.
Do you have any hobbies?
Football and spending time
with my wife Shelley and 2
kids Chelsea and Charlie.
Who is the worst dressed
referee you know?
A few would definitely say
me, however, not the worst
dressed but the one with the
worst haircuts by a mile is
Harry Bruce from Moray and
Banff. He had a mullet for a
national final!
Which referee takes the
longest to get ready?
I actually have no Idea, which
probably means me!!
Which referee has the worst
banter?
Another referee from the
Moray and Banff association,
Alan Proctor, it’s beyond
horrendous.
What is your funniest
moment as a referee?
Trying to jump over and out
of the way of a ball being
played on the ground out of
defence and standing on top
of it and falling over.
Date of birth: 31st July 1986
Referee since: 2007
Date admitted to Scottish FA

What influenced you to
become a referee? I have
played football full time since
16 and ambition was always
to enter refereeing.

Celtic. Game finished 6-5

between any two teams and
at any venue, which teams

player you have been on the

Wayne Rooney when I was
still playing. This was in his
