The high point of their 132 year history is

undoubtedly reaching the 1976 Scottish Junior Cup

Final, where they were defeated 3-0 on the day by a

strong Bo'ness side in a thrilling final.

The team was managed from June 2013 to November

2017 by Scott Clelland, and under his stewardship

Darvel lifted the Ayrshire District League title in 2016

–17 to gain promotion to the West Super League First

Division, which was the second tier of the SJFA West

Region league structure.

A very warm welcome to

Darvel Football Club!

A BRIEF HISTORY

Darvel Football Club, also known as “The Vale”, was

formed in 1889. Their club colours are royal blue and

their change colours are all black.

Recreation Park has been the home of Darvel FC

since their inauguration in 1889 and is situated at the

foot of Irvinebank Road, in the centre of Darvel.

There used to be a very successful social club at the

ground, which was sadly demolished a number of

years ago. The facilities at the ground have been

improved beyond all recognition since John Gall took

over as Chairman, and as well as radical pitch work

they can now boast first class dressing rooms, the

Kier White Suite, a 60 capacity seated main stand, a

100 capacity covered enclosure, a disabled

enclosure, a pie hut (where you can buy the famous

Darvel announced in February 2019 that Colville Park

manager Michael Kennedy would be the new manager

for the season 2019–20. In only his first season in

charge, Darvel and Blantyre Victoria were declared

joint-winners of the West Region Championship in

2019–20, after the season was prematurely halted by

the COVID-19 pandemic.

Darvel went one better the following season, as they

were crowned Premier Division Champions in 2021-22

before missing out in the Lowland League play-offs

against a strong Tranent side. A West of Scotland Cup

win in April 2024 keeps the remarkable run going.

The adventure that began in 1889 continues…
