Canada‘s Dinosaur Park and Reptile Sanctuary just east of 

Peterborough is introducing a Dinosaur Museum, a first 

for eastern Ontario. Visitors can walk or drive the Dinosaur 

Trail and get up close to the world‘s largest Tyrannosaurus 

Rex, standing over 30 feet tall and 60 feet long. Open 

daily all summer long, visitors can see over 100 dinosaurs, 

reptiles and experience the famous Croc-Walk. Three 

bone dig areas are open, along with a Nature gift store, an 

18-hole Standing Stones mini golf course, and a gourmet 

food truck for family picnics. 

Milltown Mini Golf Family Fun Centre in Peterborough 

offers family-oriented fun activities, including putting by 

two fish ponds, a working water wheel, and a running 

water sluice, all surrounded by beautiful gardens. Adding 

to your enjoyment are Batting Cages, a Water Wars game, 

a Paintball Shooting Gallery, and a Treasure Hunt for real 

coins from around the world. 

For nature enthusiasts, the Kawarthas boast excellent 

hiking and cycling trails, as well as canoeing, boating, 

swimming and fishing on the extensive network of lakes

Canada‘s dinosaur park and reptile 

sanctuary did some out of the box 

creative thinking at the start of 

the COVID19 crisis in 2020. They 

created CANADA‘s first and only 

dinosaur drive-through and invited 

families to safely drive through 

the park in their own vehicle. Tickets 

could be booked online ( still can) ...And 

phones held against car windows, providing 

safe, educational entertainment for the whole 

family. 

Now that Covid closures are history, 

Canada‘s Dinosaur Park has evolved 

again introducing a new Dinosaur 

Museum a first for eastern Ontario. 

Visitors can now walk or drive the 

Dinosaur Trail.

LANG PIONEER VILLAGE MUSEUM 

TRAVEL BACK 200 YEARS IN TIME! 

Take your travels in a new direction this summer 

by travelling 200 years back in time! At Lang 

Pioneer Village Museum, you can relive history 

and experience life in the 1800s in Peterborough 

County. The 25-acre site is host to over 30 historic 

buildings and recreates a 19th century hamlet. 

Costumed interpreters introduce you to the 

people, trades and events that have helped shape 

local history as you visit homes and businesses 

from 1800 to 1910. Learn about the history and 

culture of the Michi Saagiig Anishnaabeg who 

first occupied the land and were impacted by 

settlement. Watch the Blacksmith as he shapes 

metal into a horseshoe on the anvil. Smell the 

sweet scent of cookies baking in the woodstove. 

Hear the school bell ring signaling the start of 

classes. Try your hand at carrying water with a 

yoke and bucket or using a washboard. You will 

feel like a time traveler visiting the 1800s! The 

Museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm Wednesday 

through Sunday from Father’s Day to Labour Day. 

Lang Pioneer Village Museum also offers a variety 

of special events throughout the summer and fall. 

Kicking off the Museum’s event schedule is the 

27th Annual Father’s Day Smoke & Steam Show 

on June 16. On July 14, the historic village will be 

filled with antique and classic cars and vintage 

motorcycles for the 27th Annual Transportation 

Day Car & Motorcycle Show. Celebrate the heart of 

the summer harvest season with some fresh firecooked 

corn during Corn Roast on August 18. 

The harvest celebration continues with the 

Museum’s sweetest event, Applefest, taking place 

October 6. Enjoy an evening of fun and games as 

you are introduced to the origins of some favourite 

Halloween traditions with Spooky All Hallows’ Eve 

on October 25 & 26.

NEW LOGO AND BRAND NAME 

After 85 years of providing education for 

recreational boaters, the Canadian Power and Sail 

Squadrons, CPS-ECP, has launched a new logo and 

name – CanBoat / NautiSavoir! The logo features 

our Canadian flag, and a blue wave, symbolic of 

boating adventures on both freshwaters and 

oceans. Our rebranding journey responds to 

needs of boaters of all ages and vessel types and 

continues our tradition of being the first choice 

for boating education in Canada. We are pleased 

to share our new look with boaters living in 

Peterborough, the Kawarthas and those travelling 

on the Trent Severn waterways. Regardless of 

whether you are a canoer, a kayaker, a sailor, or 

a powerboater, boating safety education will 

give you confidence, especially in the event of 

emergency. CanBoat / NautiSaviour’s boating 

courses will prepare the more adventurous for 

both nearshore and offshore cruises. 

‘CanBoat / NautiSavoir’ is easy to remember

CanBoat / NautiSavoir has updated its courses to 

include the latest technologies including training 

in electronic navigation software. In 2023, CanBoat 

released a new Maritime Radio course, approved 

by Transport Canada. You will receive the ROC (M) 

license you require to legally operate an onboard 

radio. VHF radios are convenient for staying in 

touch with fellow boaters, but they could also 

save your life in the event of fire, damage to 

your boat or electrical problems. The VHF radio 

course and written exam is now fully online. You 

just need to book a virtual conversation with our 

Peterborough Registered Examiner who will test 

your ability to place both distress (e.g. MayDay!) 

and routine information calls. 

Our volunteer instructors have years of realworld 

experience on the water and use videos, 

slideshows, and apps to make your learning 

journey fun and flexible. So, upgrade your

Fun Centre has been offering a wide range of 

fun activities on two acres of landscaped park at 

933 Lansdowne St. W., behind the Swiss Chalet in 

Peterborough. This family-oriented amusement

safe, outdoor fun for the whole family. Visitors 

can putt by two fish ponds, a working water

water sluice. Pan just like the gold miners did it 

many years ago - keep all the gemstones you find. 

New this year is a Tire Change Challenge. Compete 

against your best time or an opponent to see who 

can change a tire the fastest. 

Milltown welcomes birthday parties where visitors 

can bring their own food and cake and enjoy one 

of four Birthday Party packages offered. Birthday 

Parties can include a package or simply bring the 

kids for a game of Mini Golf. Many businesses have 

a fun event day at Milltown. It’s a great time to get 

employees together in a relaxed atmosphere.

WARSAW CAVES CONSERVATION AREA 

CELEBRATES 60TH ANNIVERSARY! 

It was a bright, sunny afternoon, on August 19th, 

1964, when the Hon. John R. Simonett, used an axe 

to cut the rope, lowering into place the final piece 

of limestone rock marking the entrance to the 

Warsaw Caves Conservation Area. 

Mr. Simonett, Ontario Minister of Energy and 

Resources Management at that time, joined Mrs. 

Christine Nornabell, Chair of Otonabee Conservation 

along with directors, neighbors, and community 

members as the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area 

was officially opened to the public. 

In its first full season of operation, the area attracted 

9,000 visitors from far and wide. Today, with 

the addition of family and group camping, over 

20,000+ visitors per year pass through the entrance 

for outdoor exploration and camping adventures. 

The Warsaw Caves Conservation Area has become 

a regional tourist destination attracting visitors 

from the Greater Peterborough Area, the Greater 

Toronto Area as well as the Niagara and Ottawa 

regions and southwestern Ontario. 

Warsaw Caves Conservation Area takes its name 

from a series of seven caves found in the park. 

Also in the park are limestone cliffs and ledges, 

rockmills, kettles, and a disappearing river, which 

are all evidence left behind from the surging waters 

of a glacial spillway connecting Lake Algonquin to 

Lake Iroquois, approximately 10,000 years ago. 

Today, canoeists and kayakers enjoy the quiet 

waters of the Indian River. The shallow waters at 

the sandy beach are refreshing on a hot summer 

day. Spelunkers (cave explorers) find the cool 

temperature of Cave #4, the glacier cave, refreshing, 

with a constant temperature around 2° Celsius. 

Visitors wishing to enjoy all the Conservation 

Area has to offer will want to stay the night in the 

campground, which includes 52 family campsites, 

4 group campsites, and offers a comfort station 

designed with barrier-free access to washrooms, 

showers and laundry room, an engineered solar 

thermal hot water system, and an engineered 

infiltration waste system. 

Since 1962, Otonabee Conservation has acquired 

over 10,000 acres of conservation lands for 

environmental protection, forest and water 

management, and outdoor recreation with public 

access to local waterways. These lands are managed 

to protect natural features and wildlife habitat 

while offering the public opportunities to enjoy the 

outdoors and appreciate the natural environment.

A FUN ADVENTURE 

Located at the beautiful Ganaraska Forest on the 

Oak Ridges Moraine, the Treetop Trekking zip line 

and aerial game park has activities designed for 

everyone from aged nine to eighty-nine years 

of age. 

The zip line and aerial course tours are made 

up of exciting games and obstacles high in the 

trees, and include suspended bridges, Tarzan 

swings, balance logs, cable traverses and zip lines. 

There are six different aerial climbs ranging from 

beginner to advanced. Participants wear a safety 

helmet and a rock-climbing style harness that is 

always connected to a life-line. 

“We welcome families and groups of friends to 

come for a fun and exciting day outside,” says 

Mike Stiell, Marketing Director. “We have lots of 

seasonal promotions this year. On Father’s Day 

dads are free when accompanied by two others.” 

Sundays are “Fundays” with $10 off during May 

and June. And during July and August four or 

more people enjoy 25 percent off. 

What to bring: 

• comfortable clothing similar to what you’d wear 

on a hike: shorts and t-shirt if warm, pants and 

layers if it’s cooler 

• refillable water bottle and snacks (drinks and 

snacks are also sold onsite) 

• phone or camera to take pictures 

• tight-fitting gloves, such as fingerless cycling 

gloves 

• sturdy shoes with a good grip 

• backpacks or purses can be stored, with access 

between courses 

During April, May, June, September and October, 

they are open weekends and holidays, and they 

accept group bookings during the week. On the 

weekdays they are open for a larger group, they 

accept bookings for smaller parties that same day,

they are open seven days a week.
