UNI DATA BREACH Western Sydney University. LOCAL NEWS FRESH-LOOK FOR CENTURY-OLD VENUE After a $5 million renovation, Guildford Hotel has officially re-opened, revealing a fresh new look for the near 100-year-old venue. It’s a new era for the iconic watering hole, with the opening of the new bistro and cocktail bar marking the completion of Guildford Hotel’s extensive renovations. It comes after a new state-of-the-art sports bar, which features a four-metre screen that broadcasts all major sporting events, and a beer garden opened earlier this year. Along with its new spaces, the venue’s renovations also include a western Sydney-inspired mural painted by artist Nico Nicoson in the beer garden. Guildford Hotel said the mural serves as a cultural tapestry to the West, weaving together symbols of multiculturalism, like Oriental lanterns, a spirited dancing lion, and Arabic arched windows, with the Indigenous beauty of Australian wildlife, represented by the cockatoo and eucalyptus motifs. Kimmie Mel, venue licensee, says that the re-imagining of the local pub is about attracting a broader demographic and having a place where families feel welcome. Officially opening on Saturday, May 25, the launch coincided with Cumberland City Council’s festival for the upgraded Guildford Laneway. The new cocktail bar has officially opened at Guildford Hotel.
