towel rail has my symptoms blazing but may be hard to come<br />

by, being part of the old house. It is one of many original<br />

features that Angela has painstakingly included to ensure that,<br />

even after the mammoth renovation process, it still feels like a<br />

period house. The piece of timber used for the coat hooks in<br />

the cloakroom is actually the original door bars from the front<br />

door. The panelling underneath the coats is original. There is<br />

even a framed picture on the wall containing a piece of original<br />

floorboard. Angela explains, “One of the builders that worked<br />

on building the (original) house was obviously a bit of an<br />

amateur poet, and he had written a limerick on the floorboard.<br />

We found it when the floorboard came up and it‘s part of the<br />

history of the house, so it’s still here.” The scale of upheaval<br />

clearly did not preclude attention to detail. “It was a really big<br />

project. The roof came off. Hurstmore took out every window,<br />

every door. They pulled up the floorboards and stripped back<br />
