The Distinguished
Gentlemen’s Ride
I WANTED through the Herald to raise awareness of the
Distinguished Gentlemans Ride (DGR) that has been held
worldwide each year since 2012.
The DGR brings riders of vintage and classic styled motorcycles together
to raise funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer research and men’s
mental health.
I myself was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer in early 2020 and
have ridden on the Leicester DGR ride in 2022 and 2023 raising over
£7000 ! I have also raised over £2500 for Prostate Cancer Uk by selling
my photography artwork printed on canvas at cost plus a donation.

Since my diagnosis, I have worked hard to raise funds and awareness for
Prostate Cancer charities and participation in the DGR has been an annual
opportunity to focus those efforts.
This years ride will take place on Sunday May 19th in 108 countries. In
the UK alone, the ride will take place in 60 Cities !
The title DGR hints at the attire of those participating. The more ‘Dapper’
the better and facial hair is encouraged.

of 3-6 months part
way through my
illness!
Sadly after lots of
Chemo I am unable
to grow my own
moustache so this
impressive lip warmer
is a theatrical supply
item.

My disease has been
problematic of late and during
March I spent two days in ITU
but … DGR is my motivation
and I am fighting back to
enough fitness to participate.

The “LE8FIVE BRASS QUINTET”
in concert on Saturday, 28th June at 7.00 p.m.
THE LE8FIVE BRASS QUINTET is based in Countesthorpe
- hence the name - and was formed in May 2018, bringing
together FIVE local musicians who had all met through the
local Brass Band Association and had a mutual desire to
explore more musical diversity.
The quintet offers a wide range of music styles and at this concert they
will be performing music from stage and screen. It promises to be a most
enjoyable evening’s entertainment. You can learn more about the musicians
