Skirmish is just part of a full day of activities
› Fleeing from the British in 1777, the NJ Assembly met in session at
Haddonfield’s Indian King Tavern and declared that the “Colony” of New Jersey
would henceforth be the State of New Jersey. They also adopted the state seal.
British and American forces both encamped at Haddonfield or marched
through the town at various times during the war. Lafayette was among leaders
of the Revolution known to have stayed here during the war.
At 2pm on Sat Jun 1, a skirmish between British and Colonial forces that
actually took place in Haddonfield will be re-enacted on Kings Hwy E, in front of
the Indian King Tavern Museum. It will be the culmination of a full day of events
and activities that will highlight the role that residents of Haddonfield and the
region played in the Revolutionary War.
Full details of the program are in the Indian King Gazette, available downtown
and online n. See page 27 for a summary of the schedule.
