KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Know Before You Travel news for British
Columbia https://www.travel-british-columbia.
com/know-before-you-travel-in-british-columbia
TRAVEL ADVICE
Travel advice and tips are an important part
of planning the perfect vacation to British
Columbia. Links to information on a variety of
topics including lodging, camping, exchange
rates, federal, provincial taxes, weather and
safety recommendations can be found https://
www. travel-british-columbia.com/travelresources/tips/
CAMP RESPONSIBLY
Please camp responsibly and take the Camper’s
Code pledge at: https://www.camperscode.com
NINE foundational guidelines that are easy
for campers and RVers to follow to make
experiencing the outdoors better for everyone:
• Plan ahead, be prepared, and take safety
first.
• Respect your camping neighbours by keeping
noise levels low and adhering to posted quiet
hours.
• Respect wildlife - Do not feed or approach
wild animals. Instead, use binoculars to
observe from afar.
• Control your pets - Know where your pets
can go and keep them under control.
• Take photos only – Nature and all its glory
are for everyone to enjoy. Please leave
natural objects undisturbed and where they
are - like mushrooms, flowers, and wood.
• Practice fire safety – In the current forest
fire climate, respect nature and when
possible, use a propane fire.
• Store food safely – Food and scented items
can attract wild animals. Always store food
in a wildlife-proof container or hard-sided
vehicle.
• Don’t litter – Littering is not cool in
the natural environment under any
circumstance. If there are no garbage bins
around, be kind and pack it out!
• Staff and signs are here to help and keep
you safe. Please adhere to their guidance
and everyone can recreate safely.
SAFETY TIPS
Emergency 911
In emergency situations, contact the local police,
ambulance service, fire department and other
emergency services by calling 911. Visitors taking
prescribed medications should bring a copy
of their prescriptions in case they need to be
renewed or tended to by a doctor in Canada.
Campfires & Firewood
The smoke from campfires pollutes our
environment; please limit your use of campfires
to cooking and warmth. It is recommended
to only use purchased wood from the facility
where you are staying and observe local burning
regulations. Please do not move firewood from
one location to another as it can spread pests and
disease. For more information visit https://
Columbia, call 1-800-663-5555, or *5555 on your
cell phone. For more information, go to: https://
Northern British Columbia stretches from towering Mount Robson in the east to Haida Gwaii (formerly
the Queen Charlotte Islands) in the west and is a vast wilderness of grizzly bears, pristine glaciers,
ancient totems and raw rugged beauty. This is a land where outdoor recreation is a certainty and where
alpine mountains and crystal clear lakes offer everything from helicopter skiing to salmon fishing.
Visitors come here to golf, go horseback riding, hike the many trails, experience alpine and cross-country
skiing and more. Northern British Columbia has an abundance of wildlife – some very rare including
the Kermode or spirit bear and Stone’s sheep. To experience true wilderness like no other destination,
plan a trip to Northern British Columbia.
RV Rentals, RV Dealers, Service & RV Storage
RV Rental Agencies
Motorhomes come in all sizes and are available from several
RV rental outlets throughout British Columbia and Alberta.
If you are flying into Vancouver or Calgary, you can arrange
to be picked up at the airport and transported to the RV depot
and then you are off on your vacation. To rent an RV, a valid
driver’s license, proof of age and a passport maybe required by
rental agencies. Vehicles come with automatic transmission,
power braking and steering systems. The typical size is 20 ft to
30 ft (6 m to 9.1 m) in length and are much easier to drive than
you would think!
RV Dealers and Service
RV Dealers throughout British Columbia and Alberta not only
sell motorhomes, truck campers and trailers but also offer parts
departments for most makes of Recreational Vehicles. They also
have RV service bays for propane service to electrical safety checks
or fixing recreational vehicles.
RV Storage
Store your recreational vehicles in a safe environment when not in
use. These businesses offer outdoor RV vehicle storage spaces that
are gated, well lit, and with someone on site during office hours.
