Say it Loud! BIPOC Pride 2024!

In Our Own Voices (IOOV) is proud to present our 18th annual Pride event: Say it Loud! BIPOC* Pride! This is a truly unique event for our region. Say it Loud! BIPOC Pride is an opportunity for us to celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of our vibrant LGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in New York’s Capital Region. Not only do we seek to provide a safe and enjoyable space for LGBTQIA+ BIPOC and our allies, we also link our communities with inclusive, sensitive, and affirming resources and health screenings free of charge through our Health & Wellness Expo. We are also proud to partner with A Big Gay Market this year to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ small businesses, makers, and consumers. Pride has come to symbolize a moment of respite for our community members. And Say it Loud! BIPOC Pride helps us improve health outcomes, create safer spaces to combat isolation and provide access to resources and services that LGBTQIA+ BIPOC individuals and families would not receive otherwise. This June, we’re honoring strength and power—not only in who we are but also in the obstacles we are able to overcome. *Celebrating LGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color

A MESSAGE<br />

FROM OUR CEO<br />

In Our Own Voices (IOOV) is exceedingly exc<strong>it</strong>ed to host <strong>Say</strong> It <strong>Loud</strong>! <strong>BIPOC</strong> <strong>Pride</strong> <strong>2024</strong>, a<br />

celebration of LGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (<strong>BIPOC</strong>) commun<strong>it</strong>ies. At<br />

a time when attacks against LGBTQIA+ commun<strong>it</strong>ies across the nation have intensified,<br />

<strong>it</strong> is more important than ever for us to come together in un<strong>it</strong>y to celebrate commun<strong>it</strong>y,<br />

strength, and talent.<br />

As one of the oldest LGBTQIA+ organizations to serve <strong>BIPOC</strong> individuals and families in<br />

the nation, we know that commun<strong>it</strong>ies of color face difficulty when communicating our<br />

perspectives w<strong>it</strong>hin the larger commun<strong>it</strong>y. <strong>Say</strong> <strong>it</strong> <strong>Loud</strong>! <strong>BIPOC</strong> <strong>Pride</strong> is an opportun<strong>it</strong>y to<br />

acknowledge the divers<strong>it</strong>y of 5,700+ LGBTQIA+ <strong>BIPOC</strong> members in our local commun<strong>it</strong>y,<br />

and to ensure that their voices and experiences are at the table and amplified.<br />

IOOV remains comm<strong>it</strong>ted to advancing the health and wellbeing of our family here in the<br />

Cap<strong>it</strong>al Region (and beyond). As we celebrate another year of service, we look forward<br />

to increasing our capac<strong>it</strong>y to combat marginalization, develop strong leadership, and<br />

create pos<strong>it</strong>ive, long-lasting change for all.<br />

So, if this is your first <strong>BIPOC</strong> <strong>Pride</strong>, “Welcome.” If not, thank you for joining us for another<br />

year to say, “We are here and we are PROUD to be who we are!”<br />

ULTRAVIOLET (she/her)<br />

UltraViolet is Albany NY’s premiere bio queen. She is extremely exc<strong>it</strong>ed to<br />

return to the <strong>BIPOC</strong> <strong>Pride</strong> stage and represent the commun<strong>it</strong>y she loves.<br />

Ultra brings high energy, charisma and sass when she h<strong>it</strong>s the stage. She<br />

found her passion in drama and dance club at Albany High School. She<br />

continued this journey and danced on Soul Train in the late 90’s. Ultra has<br />

had dance solos at the Egg, and has performed locally for many years.<br />

he developed a passion for drag during the pandemic, and decided to<br />

add this to her list of crafts! You can see her locally at Waterworks Pub,<br />

Rocks, and Margar<strong>it</strong>a C<strong>it</strong>y. Special shoutout to IOOV and the managers<br />

of our local LGBTQA establishments. I love you all and I would not be<br />

here w<strong>it</strong>hout you.
