but make sure they’re meant

It’s springtime! Yippee! I mean … yay.

Hello, my over-the-toppers! I know. 

It has been a while since we last spoke to 

each other. But I’m back, and we have some 

catching up to do! 

Well, first things first: This spring — well, 

technically this summer — I am going to be 

an auntie again! My baby brother and his 

fiancé are having a baby boy. It’s time for 

shopping and spoiling! Also, Happy Spring 

to you all! 

Now, if you all remember from my earlier 

columns, my least (and I do mean LEAST) 

favorite seasons are spring and summer. I 

highly despise these months. The heat, the 

bugs, the storms, the bugs, kids being out 

of school, the bugs and … oh, did I mention 

the bugs? 

Yeah, I’m not a fan of spring or summer. 

The funny thing is, when I was a kid, I 

played softball with traveling teams every 

summer. I also stayed outside all day long 

during summer. Now, you’d be shocked if 

you saw me outdoors voluntarily this time 

of year. 

Now, before you say, “Erica, how can you 

NOT love spring and summer? That’s the 

best time of the year!” let me reassure you: 

Yes, I know — and fear not! I still celebrate 

both seasons in the best way possible. My 

hometown still has festivals, concerts and 

events. My family and I make family fun 

days out of them. Who doesn’t love sipping 

fresh lemonade and snacking on turkey 

legs, funnel cakes, funnel-cake-ham-andcheeseburgers 

(yeah, we have those!!), super-size 

overloaded cheese fries and … let 

me stop there because I’m making myself 

hungry. 

But who doesn’t love food? 

Not only do we have fun attending scheduled 

events presented by the city or organizations, 

but we also plan “no-spend summer 

fundays.” That’s what we call the days 

when we plan water balloon fights, bonfires, 

weenie and marshmallow roasts, weekend 

getaways, movie nights (all horror, of 

course), small get-togethers, picnics, snowcone 

dates, going fishing (or just sitting by 

a lake), some art and crafts, barbecuing 

(with lots of deviled eggs, because you have 

to have them) — you know, the essential 

spring and summer things. 

We do the things that made our childhood 

… well, childhood!

My favorite thing to do is go to a farmers’ 

market and buy fresh herbs, veggies, 

honey, fresh meat, freshly baked bread, 

fruits, sauces and spices, and make (or 

attempt to make) fresh fruit jams or other 

meals with what I purchased. Doing this 

in the warmer months makes me feel like 

a well-trained chef (just minus the welltrained 

chef part). 

The other thing I love about these markets 

is that I can purchase other items, such 

as statement pieces for my home, jewelry, 

essential oils, soaps and more to share with 

family and friends … or I can just keep them 

for myself. You know, self-love and care. 

Well, I’ m at my word limit for this week, 

so I’m going to wrap up. I will see you toppers 

next week! 

Wait! I almost forgot! In honor of Star 

Wars Day this Saturday, “May the Fourth” 

be with you!

This amazing cuddle bug seeks a forever home! 

Finn is an amazing boy that we saved from euthanasia 

in South Carolina in July. Unfortunately, his 

owner was not in a position to own a dog anymore 

so he was returned. However, he has since been 

through a board-and-train program for weeks, and 

is currently living with the trainer as a foster! This 

2-year-old pup has so much love to give and deserves 

the best forever home! Finn does okay with 

other dogs in the home if introduced properly, but 

he would prefer being the only dog and opts for 

long walks over dog parks for exercise, as he gets 

overstimulated by too many dogs in action nearby. 

He is the sweetest, cuddliest pup you’ll ever meet, 

and he will be such a light in his adopter’s life!
