While threats are on the rise across the board - be it data breaches,
ransomware attacks, identity theft or phishing – there’s new technologies,
best practices, regulations and C-suite mobilization armed and ready to create
further resilience against these threats.
In this issue, Monica Shokrai from Google Cloud speaks to the evolving roles
and relationships between the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)
and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at board level to mitigate cyber risk. Lisa
Pollina offers insights into cybersecurity threats in the current geopolitical
environment, and considers what could be done to counter them. Caitlin
Alpern from AXA XL also expands on the evolving regulatory environment,
alongside recent privacy laws and the mandate for public companies to
disclose breaches swiftly, considering how this affects the response of others.
Furthermore, Dikla Wagner from Munich Re shares her thoughts on
social engineering, and discusses how cybercriminals can exploit human
vulnerabilities to create personalized phishing campaigns at scale, particularly
by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI). Finally, Laurissa Berk from UConn
shares her vision for the Cyber Defense Connect Conference, which stems
from the escalating importance of cyber security across various industry
sectors.
All agree that AI can be dangerous in the hands of a cybercriminal. However,
my panelists were very optimistic about the promise of this technology in the
right hands, particularly when it comes to detecting a breach and increasing
response times in order to mitigate the risk of cyber-attack.
