landscape garden surrounding
magnificent mansion (now a
school). Visitors will discover three
lakes, serpentine canal, climbable
prospect mount, period former
banana house and orangery,
fascinating shell grotto, plantsman’s
glade and Italian terrace by Peto
(c1907), drives and colonnade by
Mawson (c1914) with magnificent
views to the Isle of Wight.

A garden for all seasons, developed
over 50years into a profusely planted,
contemporary cottage garden in
peaceful surroundings. There is a
constantly changing display in pots,
starting with tulips and continuing
with many unusual plants.

Evolving suburban water garden. Enjoy spring colour from azaleas,
rhododendrons and bulbs, then summer colour from perennials, water
lilies and tropical plants. A lawn meanders between informal beds and
ponds, and bridges lead to a tranquil pergola seating area overlooking
a wildlife pond. A rockery is skirted by a stream and a waterfall tumbles
into a large lily pond, home to dragonflies.

featuring granite sculptures, ponds,
waterfalls, azaleas, rhododendrons,

Garden built around early C18 mill
on idyllic isolated stretch of the River
Test, east of Whitchurch. Gardens
have been built incrementally over
30 yrs with extensive bulb planting;
herbaceous and Mediterranean
borders with magnolia, irises, and
tree peonies; summer and autumn
borders; a traditional orchard and two
small arboretums, one specialising in
Japanese shrubs and trees.
