<strong>The</strong> second law <strong>of</strong> thermodynamics does not make life impossible but<br />

<br />

if they were slightly different would make life impossible, but they<br />

happen to be in the small range that makes the universe hospitable to the<br />

formation <strong>of</strong> living beings. Is this evidence that the universe was created<br />

for life? Even if there is no God, in a universe like this, would life have<br />

necessarily come into being anyway?<br />

We have seen a pattern <strong>of</strong> scientists assuming that such systems as space<br />

or the surface <strong>of</strong> the Earth must be stable, only to have to reject this<br />

view later for a picture in which the system is dynamic. Is stability a<br />

<br />

instead with the position that everything changes?<br />
