SCOTT A. EDELMAN<br />

Scott A. Edelman is Chairman of Milbank LLP and<br />

a member of the firm’s Litigation & Arbitration<br />

Group. Mr. Edelman specializes in high-stakes,<br />

bet-the-company litigation and trials across several<br />

substantive areas of the law, including securities,<br />

commercial and white collar.<br />

Over the course of his career, Mr. Edelman has<br />

taken more than 18 cases to trial and argued dozens<br />

of appeals. In 2017, Mr. Edelman was inducted<br />

as a fellow into The American College of Trial<br />

Lawyers (ACTL).<br />

Mr. Edelman joined Milbank in 1994 and became<br />

a partner in 1995. Prior to joining Milbank, he<br />

served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York<br />

from 1990 to 1994. Mr. Edelman started his career at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz.<br />

He received his law degree from Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the<br />

Harvard Law Review and a John Olin Fellow in Law and Economics, and received his<br />

B.A., summa cum laude, and M.A. degrees, both in Economics, from Yale University. Mr.<br />

Edelman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society.<br />

ANN M. KAPPLER<br />

As executive vice president, general counsel and<br />

chief compliance officer at Prudential Financial,<br />

Ann Kappler is the head of Law, Compliance,<br />

Business Ethics and External Affairs, leading a<br />

global team of over 1100 employees. She is a<br />

member of the Executive Leadership Team, and<br />

Operating and Enterprise Risk Committees. She<br />

was appointed in September 2020, after serving<br />

as the company’s deputy general counsel and<br />

head of External Affairs for six years.<br />

Prior to joining Prudential in 2009, Kappler<br />

was a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale<br />

and Dorr in Washington, D.C., where she<br />

focused on emerging issues at the intersection of<br />

regulation, legislation and litigation. Her previous roles included litigation partner at<br />

Jenner & Block and general counsel at Fannie Mae.<br />

Kappler serves on the boards of directors of the Pro Bono Partnership (Treasurer)<br />

and the National Health Law Program (Chair), and is a member of the Board of<br />

Visitors of the Dartmouth College Rockefeller Center for Public Policy. Kappler<br />

has served on the boards of the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights<br />

and Urban Affairs, Appleseed Foundation, and Global Rights; and was a longtime<br />

member of the board of trustees of the Lowell School in Washington, D.C., where<br />

she served as chair. She has earned numerous awards including 2018 Executive<br />

Women of New Jersey Policymakers honoree, NJBIZ Law Power 50 2021–2023,<br />

ranked fourth on Attorney Intel’s Top 25 General Counsels of 2023, 2023 NJ LEEP<br />

Community Impact Award, and was the recipient of the Women, Influence & Power<br />

in Law for In-House Thought Leadership by Corporate Counsel in 2023. She is a<br />

frequent speaker on topics such as legal and compliance best practices, diversity and<br />

inclusion, and is an advocate for workplace mental health issues.<br />

Kappler graduated from Dartmouth College, magna cum laude, and received her law<br />

degree from New York University School of Law, where she received the Alumnae<br />

Key Award and was a member of the Order of the Coif and editor-in-chief of the<br />

Law Review. She clerked for Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Judge Abner<br />

Mikva and U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Harry Blackmun.<br />

THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF LAW is the flagship of legal education and research<br />

in Israel. The Faculty of Law was founded as the first law faculty at an Israeli university in 1949, just<br />

after the establishment of the State of Israel. Most of the leadership of the Israeli legal system, including<br />

most of our past and present Supreme Court Justices, have graduated from the law faculty, or taught<br />

therein. Most of the recipients of the prestigious Israel Prize in Law and Criminology also hail from<br />

THE GEORGE A. KATZ TORCH OF LEARNING AWARD is presented annually to distinguished<br />

the late George A. Katz (z”l), co-founder of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and dear friend of the<br />

American Friends of the Hebrew University.<br />
