Getting Ready for School You have probably already started talking to your child about school. You can help your child feel comfortable and positive about school by emphasising how enjoyable it is. You can tell them that they will make many new friends, and enjoy playing with lots of new things. Make a point of talking about school and how children go to school to have fun and learn. Tell them that all the teachers will care for them and that they will have special teachers who will be in their classroom every day. You could visit our website or Facebook page and share some of the photos and videos with them. We have also created videos introducing members of staff which you may choose to share with your children before arriving in September.

Supporting Learning at Home You may have spent time enjoying nursery rhymes, counting rhymes and bedtime stories with your child. These are vital in helping your child to develop Literacy and Numeracy skills. You can also help your child's reading development by sharing books together and talking about the story and pictures. Pointing out every day print e.g. signs and notices will also be helpful. Let your child see you reading too. Give your child lots of materials and opportunities to write, mark make and draw and encourage their efforts with lots of praise. If you want to help your child to write their name, please begin with a capital letter and use lower case letters for the rest of the name. Please support correct letter formation. We currently use a commercial phonics scheme called Read Write Inc to compliment our teaching and you can support this by purchasing the Set 1 Flash Cards to assist your child at home. When cooking, you can show your child how to use scales and how much things weigh. Cooking together is a great way to learn! Look out at the different shapes of packets and tins. You can help counting skills by counting buttons, stairs, sounds etc. Look out for numbers in the signs and notices when out and about.
