EV WAI adds new safety feature to its electric vehicle charging cables Leading automotive parts supplier and electric vehicle charging cable specialist, WAI Europe, has revealed a new safety enhancement in its popular electric vehicle (EV) charging cable range, to address growing concerns over safety hazards associated with prolonged EV cable use. The latest evolution to WAI’s EV charging cable features a thermal cut off switch inside the plug, which, once it gets to certain temperature, is switched off to mitigating the risk of electrical damage and fire hazards. Once the cable has cooled, it switches itself back on. “The intensive use of any electrical equipment brings inherent safety risks, especially the use of EV charging cables at home or in garages. With so much current running through the cable, it will heat up, and if left plugged in, this can be dangerous,” said Richard Welland, president at WAI Europe. He adds: “Recent reports have highlighted a concerning trend of individuals leaving charging cables plugged in continuously, leading to overheating and potential safety risks. In response to this, our new EV cables come equipped with an innovative thermal cut-off feature.” When the cable temperature reaches 80 degrees, the built-in mechanism automatically cuts power, preventing further overheating and potential damage. Once the cable cools down to a safe temperature, it resets and resumes charging operations, ensuring continuous and safe charging experiences for users. With this brand-new enhancement, WAI reaffirms its commitment to prioritising user safety and delivering reliable solutions for the evolving needs of electric vehicle owners.
