Hush: Can you share with us your journey into
the world of body painting and how you
intertwine it with your preaching of the African
mantra?
Jethro: Africans have ancient traditions for
decorating and accessorizing the body in rich and
varied ways. Traditionally, many African peoples
wore little to cover their bodies, leaving their skin
exposed and available for decoration. Africans
adorned themselves in four general ways:
scarification, body painting, beadwork, and
jewelry.
Hush: What inspires your artistic creations and
the messages you convey through your body art?
Jethro: I'm inspired by the tattoos of our aged
mothers and fathers. African patterns and motifs,
all these symbols and patterns have so much
wisdom and stories that need not to be forgotten
Hush: How do you see body painting as a form of
artistic expression contributing to the
preservation and celebration of African culture
and heritage?
Jethro: My body paintings contain African
symbols and patterns that contain lots of wisdom
and knowledge that need to be passed on from
generations to come. I paint them on the body to
be carried with pride just as we are taught to
uphold our culture and heritage.
Hush: Could you walk us through your creative
process, from conceptualization to execution,
when creating your intricate body art pieces?
Jethro: First, the body has its art when I see a
human, I picture symbols and patterns on them
so I allow the patterns to flow through me and
paint my ancestors imagination.
Hush: As both an artist and a preacher, how do
you navigate the intersection between
spirituality and art in your work?
Jethro: As an artist, I seek ye first the great artist
himself (GOD) for inspiration and guidance to
carry out that which he has given unto me body
art. To me, it is a spiritual awakening that
intentionally modernizes the forgotten heritage
of the African culture.
Hush: Your body art often incorporates symbols
and motifs from African culture. How do you
ensure authenticity and respect for the cultural
significance of these elements in your creations?
Jethro: Concerning the African symbols and
patterns I use specific symbols from the Adinkra
symbols to pass a message it can be beauty,
strength, love, faith, and lots more to tell a
perticular story.
Hush: How do you use your platform as a body
painter to advocate for social change and raise
awareness about issues affecting African
communities?
Jethro: The human body is powerful and more
powerful when painted in ancient symbols and
patterns so I use that to speak about beauty,
freedom, and an expression of energy, sensuality
and individuality to express oneself.
Hush: Can you share any memorable experiences
or encounters you've had while sharing your art
and message with audiences around the world?
Jethro: People are always amazed at how the
paint on bodies goes. They asked lots of personal
questions like don't I get moved by the human
body when I paint nude? I smiled and say the
human body is a living canvas and it brings my art
to life I always enjoy telling them about my
encounters but they still don't believe, but so far
the message is passed and I'm good.
Hush: In what ways do you hope your body art
challenges conventional notions of beauty and
encourages viewers to embrace diversity and
individuality?
Jethro: One of the interesting things about my
works are the lines and I hope they get to the
right audience and should be used for cultural
adverts and to take people's mind away from
sexuality and see the message behind it .

In a spirited effort to foster community

malnutrition, hunger, and poverty in
NigeriaCharity With Food organized a Novelty
Match that went beyond the thrill of the game.

hunger and poverty.
