Children and young people can now enjoy a range of
educational and recreational activities over the summer
holidays by attending Academic Camp’s residential
summer experiences in Taunton. The camps help to
embed existing skills as well as bring new knowledge
and abilities and provide a wonderful opportunity to
make new friends, develop confidence and encourage
independent thinking.
Since the organisation was set up by Helen Lami in
2008 it has helped 1000s of young people improve their
skills and achieve their dreams. The themed camps
taking place in Somerset over the school summer
break are specifically designed to foster teamwork and
explore cultural differences in a fun, caring and lively
environment.
“Summer is the perfect time of year for children and
young people to attend our camps,” said Helen. “It’s
when we get the most daylight, the weather is generally

What You Need To Know.
• The summer camp take place Monday–Thursday,
July 15th-August 22nd, at Queen’s College, Trull
Road, Taunton. TA1 4QS.
• The forward-thinking boarding school has a
traditional appearance, leading many to describe it
as being like being on the set of a Harry Potter film!
• As well as modern
classrooms and outstanding
sporting facilities, the College
has a 570-seat theatre,
tennis courts and an indoor
swimming pool.
• Children and young
fabulous and they know they’ve got a long break from
normal school. These elements combine to create a
brilliant atmosphere which is ripe for new friendships
and an all-round fun time!”
Helen centres the teaching and learning approach of the
camps around content and language integrated learning
- a holistic approach that has been shown to motivate
students to be more willing to focus and more inspired
to learn.
“We fundamentally believe it is vital to try new things,”
says Helen. “When young people work as a team and
build practical skills together, it really puts them in a
good position to carve out a great future for themselves
and be able to get on with people from all walks of life.
We always see children and young people get to the end
of their camp experiences having challenged themselves
in the most amazing ways and having made important
friendships along the way. It’s wonderful to see.”

from overseas.
The camps available over the summer range from
adventure camps, where young people get to try out
a range of multi-sports, learn bushcraft, engage in
climbing, archery and variety of orienteering activities;
to arts and crafts camps, where there’s the opportunity
to explore a range of materials, mediums and art forms;
to week-long STEAM camps, which merge the worlds
of science, technology, engineering, art and maths to
truly foster creative and innovative thinking and ideas,
encouraging an imaginative “thinking outside the box”
approach to learning, curiosity and development.
Additional excursions are available and include trips to
London, Thorpe Park and the Eden Project.
