Example 1: System and cabling redundancy in a LAN, EN 60849 

− Optimized high speed data transmission via VLAN in Layer 2 and optical fibre 

− Wide area distribution of a LAN in a plant 

− 205 subscribers in any order distributable to several network nodes 

− Redundant data transmission between the network nodes via optical fibre 

− Each optical fibre can transmit data from 2 separate VLANs 

− 2 switches in each nodes ensure network redundancy 

− Fast switchover of the switches in case of failure 

− High reliability by automatic fault detection 

• Defective Switch 

Redundant switch takes over the transmission via VLAN without any loss of service 

(Master/slave principle) 

• Defective fibre optic cable 

Redundant optical fibre transmits the data of both VLANs 

• Loop creation 

- Loop in a VLAN (patch cable incorrectly terminated in the switch) or 

- Loop in both VLANs (switches directly connected via patch cable) 

In both cases the involved ports of the switches are deactivated

Modem for high distances between DS-6 indoor call stations and the DS-6 node 

The high distances are archieved due to the process “SHDSL.bis” with symmetric full duplex transmission. 

A robust aluminium package in a 19’’ mounting frame with an integrated voltage converter (18 to 75 VDC) is designated 

for the mounting of the modem in the DS-6 node.
