ABOUT BIKTARVY
BIKTARVY may cause serious side

Worsening of hepatitis B (HBV)
infection. Your healthcare provider
will test you for HBV. If you have
both HIV-1 and HBV, your HBV may
suddenly get worse if you stop
taking BIKTARVY. Do not stop
taking BIKTARVY without first
talking to your healthcare provider,
as they will need to check your
health regularly for several months,
and may give you HBV medicine.
ABOUT BIKTARVY
BIKTARVY is a complete, 1-pill, once-a-day
prescription medicine used to treat HIV-1
in adults and children who weigh at least
55 pounds. It can either be used in people
who have never taken HIV-1 medicines
before, or people who are replacing
their current HIV-1 medicines and whose
healthcare provider determines they meet
certain requirements.
BIKTARVY does not cure HIV-1 or AIDS.
HIV-1 is the virus that causes AIDS.
Do NOT take BIKTARVY if you also take
a medicine that contains:
dofetilide
rifampin
any other medicines to treat HIV-1

BIKTARVY may cause serious side
effects, including:

Changes in your immune system.
Your immune system may get stronger
and begin to fight infections that may
have been hidden in your body.

should do blood and urine tests to
check your kidneys. If you develop
new or worse kidney problems, they
may tell you to stop taking BIKTARVY.
Too much lactic acid in your blood
(lactic acidosis), which is a serious
but rare medical emergency that can
lead to death. Tell your healthcare
provider right away if you get these
symptoms: weakness or being more
tired than usual, unusual muscle
pain, being short of breath or fast
breathing, stomach pain with nausea
and vomiting, cold or blue hands and
feet, feel dizzy or lightheaded, or a
fast or abnormal heartbeat.
Severe liver problems, which in rare
cases can lead to death. Tell your
healthcare provider right away
if you get these symptoms: skin or
the white part of your eyes turns
yellow, dark “tea-colored” urine,
light-colored stools, loss of appetite
for several days or longer, nausea, or
stomach-area pain.
The most common side effects of
BIKTARVY in clinical studies were
diarrhea (6%), nausea (6%), and
headache (5%).
These are not all the possible side effects
of BIKTARVY. Tell your healthcare

JOINS J.LO FOR “THIS IS ME…
NOW” ON AMAZON PRIME

Rising Latinx, LGBTQ actor Brandon Delsid appears in the new Jennifer
Lopez movie, “This is Me…Now”, on Amazon Prime, as one of her
best friends. The movie is a unique love story co-written by J.Lo,
and directed by Dave Meyers. J.Lo has created “a narrative-driven,
cinematic odyssey steeped in mythological storytelling and personal
healing.” Also appearing in the musical film are husband Ben Affleck,
Trevor Noah, Post Malone, Fat Joe, and a barrage of other talented
people.
Brandon is also recognized for his recent appearances in the final
season of the hit NBC series “New Amsterdam” and in Amazon Prime’s
“The Date Whisperer.” Get Out Magazine had a conversation with
Brandon regarding his career and his role in “This is Me, Now”
INTERVIEW
Hi, Brandon. How did
you get the role as one
of J.Lo’s besties in the
movie?
Oh, my gosh, that is a weird
story. It was over a year ago
now, which is so weird to
think about. I was actually
in Rome with my boyfriend
Grant at the time. I got a
call and it was late at night,
so I knew it had to be either
really good news or really
bad news. And my manager
said, “You are on hold for
J Lo’s new film.” I just kind
of like dropped everything.
I literally could feel chills
go down my body from my
head to my toes. And it was
at that moment that I just
felt like it was going to work
out. You don’t always get
it when you are on hold for
a part. But it worked out. I
ended up getting a call a
day later that I had booked
it. And five days later, I was
on set.
Before the film, were you
a big fan of J.Lo’s?
I mean, who isn’t?
Growing up, she was just
part of this zeitgeist of
the entertainment world.
She was kind of like a
Marilyn Monroe figure
at this point. She’s just
kind of omnipresent. I
remember growing up
and being obsessed with
her music. There’s one
song I remember I was so
obsessed with growing up
called “Do It Well”. I have
this memory of being at a
gathering with her and the
song coming on and we
are in a circle and we are
all dancing. And I literally
started thinking about how
surreal would my nine-yearold
self feel that I’m dancing
with her now. I was dancing
to my childhood favorite
song– dancing along with
the person who sung it.
What was it like for you
working with her, being
that you were a fan?
She was fabulous. She was
so fabulous from beginning
to end. It was kind of neat.
I remember on the first day,
we were shooting a scene
where she is in the hospital.
That is the first thing that
we were in. And it is a short
scene in the beginning of
the film, but I remember
shooting it. In between
takes, she would come
over and give us little notes.
She would kind of help
steer us. That was amazing
because it was like “Whoa”
to get her insight–and her
feedback was invaluable.
It was kind of neat to see
how hands-on she was and
she was oh so there to play.
One of my favorite things
about the show was that we
could do what was written
and then she would want
to improvise. She would
say, ”Let’s just banter and
go back and forth.” You
don’t always get that on
professional sets. Growing
up, you dream of situations
like that, where you get to
just be silly.

It doesn’t sound like
you had a lot of time to
prepare for the role. Did
you, and if so, how?
It was, like I said, five days.
Those five days were filled
with costume fittings and
getting ready and stuff like
that. I think, for me, I always
try to prepare and make
sure I memorize, so that I’m
ready for the set. But also,
for massive productions like
this, you just have to show
up and you really have to
be relaxed and grounded.
You have to be ready for
whatever comes at you. At
its best, acting is play. We
are playing with each other.
And you want to be relaxed
and be your best self. So
I really just tried to come
at it as relaxed as I could
so that I could give a great
performance. The stakes
were so high. It doesn’t get
bigger than being on a set
with J.Lo and Ben Affleck.
So I thought, “I have to
calm myself and show up
and show out”. It was pretty
wild. And my character is
pretty wild too. Very high
energy. So I needed to find
a balance in this, just to stay
grounded.
What was the biggest
challenge filming?
Like I mentioned, the short
preparation. Realizing
how quick it went down. I
thought, “Wait, do I need a
haircut? Do I need a facial?
Should I go get some cute
clothes to wear to set?” It
happened so quickly that
you didn’t really have time
to think. But I think there’s
magic in
that. I think
there’s
magic in
having
to dive in
head first.
And I really
think that
is what
being
an actor
is really
about. You
have to
hope for
the best
and just
jump in
and give
it your all.
The show
must go
on.
What does the storyline
of the movie mean to you
personally?
It’s powerful. It’s literally a
love letter from Jennifer’s
heart. There are definitely
parts of it that are kind of
with Greek mythology in
mind, which makes it really
fun and brings a level of
fantasy to it. But it’s really a
narrative driven film that’s
kind of inspired by her
love life the last 20 years.
And I get to play her gay
best friend. Along with a
couple of other friends, I’m
kind of the driving force in
the film. We kind of help
guide her through her love
life. We see all the boys
that come around. We
see them all leave. And
we are the constant, just
as good friends are in life.
Relationships come and go,
but friends can be forever.
They can be a really strong
relationship in your life,
just as strong as a partner.
So it’s really a love letter
about her last 20 years and
about where she is now.
Ultimately, I think it’s about
a journey of self love. How
we all should have radical
self love for ourselves every
single day.
Tell me about your role
in New Amsterdam. I love
that show.
It kind of became a staple
for a lot of people. It was
an amazing show. And I got
to have a really small role
in their fifth season. It was
incredible. To get to go to
New York for it–I love New
York.

I lived there for three
and a half years. I did
off-Broadway there and
some other projects, but
to get to go back for New
Amsterdam and to get to
see their sets that they use
and it’s a giant sound stage
in Brooklyn. The magic of
it. The sets are so iconic.
That was really an iconic
and fun little role I got to
play. It gets you ready
for these professional
sets and how fast paced
everything is.
Are there any new
projects on the horizon
for you?
I have a couple of secret
projects I am working on.
But I also have a really
cool campaign with CeraVe
skin care. That will be
coming out in April. I’m
really into skin care, so that
was a really a neat project.
And I also have another
film directed and written by
Luc Besson, who directed
The Fifth Element and
the Taken franchise. That
movie should be coming
out later this year. It’s
called June and John.

Is there anything that
you would like to discuss
that I haven’t discussed
with you?
Just that I hope that people
leave the film loving
themselves even more
and realizing that is part of
the journey of life. Finding
a way to love yourself
through the good and bad
times.

Below Deck’s Bruno Duarte and his husband Alex Step
Out in ES Collection USA
Bruno Duarte rose to fame as a breakout star
on the Bravo reality TV show Below Deck. He
starred on the series as a deck hand, winning
the hearts of viewers for his gorgeous looks
and compelling life story.
Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Duarte suffered a
traumatic childhood marked by an abusive
father and the loss of his twin brother.
Determined to find his way in life, Duarte
found work as a waiter in luxury hotels and
restaurants. He then took his passion for
hospitality to the sea, working first on cruises,
then jumping ship into yachting.
By the time Below Deck came calling,
life was smooth sailing for Duarte,
professionally and personally. However,
the winds of change would come
blowing in with Duarte exiting the show
and ending his relationship with his
fiancé.
Today, Bruno Duarte has found love
again with Alex, and the two are
exploring a new venture together as
fashion models. They are featured in
the spring campaign for ES Collection
USA.

How did you two meet?
Bruno: I was living in Cannes
with my then fiancé and we
decided to visit Nice and go to the
gay bars. Alex happened to be a
bartender at one of the bars and
we started to talk.
Was it love at first sight?
Bruno: I had a wave of feelings
that I had never felt before. My
ex and I were in a seven-year
relationship and thought it might
be nice to have an experience
with a third. But after meeting
Alex, I wanted him for me, period.
I couldn’t see him with my ex.
Our first four weeks together, we
couldn’t let each other go.
Alex, what do you love most about Bruno?
Alex: His generosity, his determination, his smile,
the way he takes care of me. He is a golden man
and that’s why I married him! I don’t believe we
have spent a day apart since the first day we met.
What do you love most about Alex?
Bruno: Alex is kind, his love is intense and the
feeling that I have when he looks into my eyes is
unique.
What is a typical day in the life of Alex and
Bruno like?
Bruno: I left my job in the yachting industry to be
present in our relationship, and since then, we’ve
been traveling and living our dreams.
How did you each find your way into modeling
athleticwear?
Alex: All of the modeling work has been driven by
our social media. The team at ESCollectionUSA
invited us to collaborate on their latest campaign.
Who is the biggest ham in front of the camera?
Alex: (Laughing) Bruno!
Bruno: Alex hates being in the spotlight. It isn’t
easy for him. I go with the flow, and I always have
so much fun working with him.
Alex, can you tell us about your tattoos? Do
they hold a particular meaning for you?
Alex: They all hold special meaning to me; most
having to do with my family and my grandparents.
Bruno, you have a few tats too...
Bruno: I have two small tattoos. I did the first one
when Alex and I were in Lisbon together. The
other was done in France. Neither has significant
meaning, but I plan to soon add a big tattoo on
my arm to represent a childhood trauma that I
experienced.
How do you each maintain your physiques?
Alex: A lot of gym, cross fit, diet, and struggles.
Bruno: (Laughing) Alex is more sensitive when it
comes to food temptation!
What’s your advice to couples on how to keep
their love strong this spring?
Alex: Our strong foundation is built on
communication. Also, accepting that there will be
bad moments, but it is important to never give up.
Bruno: If you love someone, you can’t run away
just because things are bad. The real love is when
you stay and face the problems and work together
to overcome them.
What’s next for you both?
Alex: We want to build our own business. We have
some ideas that we are cooking up.
Bruno: I’m also trying to get back into some
adventure reality show. Likely not Below Deck. I
think that show is over for me.

Most Imperial Sovereign Majesties–Emperor XXIX and Regent Emperor
XXXII Graham D’ Craquer and Empress XXXIV and Regent Empress XXXVII
Madelyn Keyth–are getting ready for the 38th Annual “Night of a Thousand
Gowns”
Please join the Imperial Court of New York as they celebrate the Night Of A
Thousand Gowns, benefitting Trinity Place Shelter, on Saturday March 23rd
at the New York Hilton Midtown (1335 Avenue of the Americas, NYC) from
6:00PM-11:00PM.
The Imperial Court of New York is a 501 (c)3 philanthropic corporation that
has raised thousands of dollars for a barrage of worthy causes through the
production of entertaining, fundraising events throughout the year. Their
signature event is the charity ball “Night of a Thousand Gowns”, a red carpet,
formal gala which is filled with entertainment, a silent auction, great food
and drink and good friends.
Madelyn Keyth began performing on Long Island with Neil’s Hollywood
Follies as Mae West. She produced her first charity event, which was one of
the first AIDS benefits on Long Island, and has been doing benefit work ever
since. Her shows and events have raised over $100,000, even stepping up
during Covid. Her husband Graham D’Craquer formed a lifelong passion
for working with food at a very early age. He later began working in the
medical field and celebrated the wonder of the science surrounding that
arena. Together, these two are excited to exceed all expectations this year
and “keep the jewel that is the ICNY shining.”

NEW GROOVE

How has your experience of being Emperor
enriched or changed the trajectory of your
life?
This is actually the second time I’ve been
Emperor. The first was in 2020. But when I
was to step up, the world closed down due to
the pandemic. Every thing we did was virtual.
This reign has given me the opportunity to visit
different Courts across the U.S. and Canada and
meet so many new people. My life is definitely
richer and fuller because I’ve had the chance to
get to know all these marvelous folks who have
similar goals to mine.
Can you recall an experience that stands out
in your mind as extraordinary?
We had the pleasure of experiencing the
extraordinary hospitality of both the Hawaii and
Alaska Courts. Both were learning experiences
in the art of hospitality, as well as being
enormous fun.
What are you most looking forward to at this
year’s Night of A Thousand Gowns?
As always, the Night of a Thousand Gowns
is a big celebration of who we are as a
community. Seeing so many like-minded folks
and organizations coming together to help lift up
those who need it is what it’s all about and gives
me so much hope. And we get to dress up and
put on a show, as part of the bargain. There’s
lots of glitz and glamour, but in the end, it’s all
about raising money for our beneficiaries.
What can we expect for the entertainment
this year?
We are finalizing the entertainment right now,
but those we are considering will not disappoint.
What significance does your title “The Noble
Silver Giraffe Emperor of Conversation,
Compassion, and Charity” have?
The silver part comes from the color of my hair.
The conversation part is what I believe is the
keystone of where any exchange about our
community has to start. Compassion and charity
are the core of what we are and do as the
Imperial Court. And the noble part comes from
how I hope we are perceived in what we do.
What motivated you to join the Imperial Court
of New York?
The goals and mission of the Imperial Court
perfectly aligned with what I see as the best way
forward to make a difference in the community at
large and especially our little piece of it.
What was your greatest accomplishment this
past year?
In truth, any accomplishments we have
achieved this year have been realized because
of the Court’s phenomenal and hard-working
membership. I get to be the visible, forwardfacing
representation of all that dedication and
work. It’s an honor and privilege and one I do not
take lightly. It would be difficult to single out one
accomplishment. We have all worked very hard
to help make sure our beneficiaries get what
they need to do their vital work.

What is your favorite part about becoming
Empress?
Representing the New York chapter of our
organization and having the opportunity to talk
about and explain what we do. In a time when
there are so many organizations advertising
for assistance, it’s nice to have some face (or
microphone) time with people. When people
become enlightened, I believe they are more
likely to want to help.
What are you most looking forward to this
year at Night Of A Thousand Gowns?
I love getting to spend time with our guests
from all over the country. Friends we’ve made
but only get to see a couple of times a year.
There are over 60 chapters in the International
Court system, and one of the things I find most
exciting is when we’re able to host visitors or
experience their hospitality.
What is the most rewarding experience that
you have had this year being Empress?
Getting to see people up close again. This
year, we were able to resume our outreach
programs. This could be performing for people
in assisted living or hospice situations or doing
a pot luck dinner at a homeless youth center.
Why did you become part of the Imperial
Court of New York?
I first joined the Court system in San Diego
and loved their mission. When I moved back
to New York and found I had friends who were
members here, I was all in.
How does one join the Imperial Court of
New York?
Go to our website, ICNY.org, or join us at
a monthly membership meeting. You don’t
need to be a member to observe and see
if it’s something you might like. It’s a great
place to meet like-minded people. Or maybe
find a husband, lol. I did! We meet the first
Wednesday of the month at the LGBT Center
on W. 13th, 7:30 PM and we would love to
have you.
Do you have a dress picked out for this
year’s gala?
A dress?? I have three so far. . .and I’m
working on one or two more. It’s the Night of a
Thousand Gowns!
What is the significance of “The Towering
Tequila & Amethyst Orchard Empress of
Love, Laughter & Lumpia?”
In our organization, it is not uncommon for
monarchs to have a moniker or multiple titles

mine embraces my height–I’m 6’4”--plus l like
tequila, I’m a florist who loves purple, I’m also
part Filipino (lumpia), I love life and laughter.

Jasmin Van Wales
Fierce New York Queen
Born in Brooklyn, Jasmin Van
Wales is a leading nightlife
performer who started her
career 30 years ago in the
West Village. Beginning as a
professional dancer, Jasmin
saw her first drag show and she
was amazed. She’s received the
Ballroom Icon Award and has
worked in many of the New
York City bars. She is now living
her true life as a trans woman
and is still enjoying her journey
as a performer.

Hi, Jasmin. How did you get
into doing drag?
I started my drag over 30
years ago. One day, I was
hanging out in the Village and
I ran into two fellow dancers
and they were in drag. I asked
why were they dressed like
that and they took me into this
little bar called Two Potato and
I watched my first ever drag
show featuring the Divas–
Victoria Lace, Lorraine Collins,
Tracy Corey and Princess
Brittany–and I was so shocked
and impressed with what I
saw that right after the show, I
immediately asked, “How can I
do that?” They took me under
their wings and I did the talent
competition at Two Potato as
Patti Labelle and won. I won a
booking and money, and that’s
when ‘Lady Jadee’ was born.
I didn’t become Lady Jasmin
until a few years later. Then,
much later, in 2015, Jasmin
VAN WALES was born, so the
DIVAS and Princess Brittany
are the reason I got in drag.
What do you enjoy most
about your job?
The fact that I can make
people feel good when I hit
that stage and perform for
them. That means I did my job.
Who are your favorite
musical influences that you
enjoy performing?
My absolute favorite
performers that I enjoy
performing, first and
foremost, are the ICON PATTI
LABELLE, TINA TURNER,
GRACE JONES and GLADYS
KNIGHT.

When you
are not
working,
how do you
entertain
yourself?
When I’m not
working, I like
to cook and
watch old
movies, Law
and Order
SVU, Tyler
Perry plays
and movies,
and listen to
music–old
school.

Tell me a little bit about
yourself. Growing up,
hobbies, likes and dislikes?
I was born and raised in
Brooklyn, a shy and insecure
little boy, not knowing who I
was growing up to be, until I
realized I like dancing. So my
mom started teaching me at
the age of five. By the time I
was 13, I went with one of the
neighbors to her job–she was
a counselor for a day camp
at our local community center
and they had a dance class
and a whole dance company
called THE ENY THEATRICAL
WORKSHOP. And I started
taking classes in the fall,
and that’s when my dance
career took off. By the age of
16, I earned a scholarship to
attend the Alvin Ailey Dance
Company. By the age of 19,
I was teaching classes at
the center, where I started
choreographing and putting on
many dance workshops. But I
still wanted so much more, so
I started sewing and making
clothes. Then I discovered
drag. Once I started drag,
that’s when I felt the most
comfortable, but I would get
upset because I had to take
it off until my late 40’s, when I
decided to live in my truth as a
transwoman because I didn’t
realize how depressed I was
all those years growing up not
being able to be who I really
am. Pretty much, I just got
tired of being someone else for
everyone else. Now I’m living
my best life at the age of 54!
What hobbies do you enjoy?
I like karaoke, dancing,
cooking, sewing and making
people laugh.
What are your biggest
challenges and triumphs
when on stage?
My biggest challenges are not
knowing if I’m doing a good
performance until I’m done with
the performance and I get the
feedback from the people
My biggest triumph is knowing
that whatever I bring to the
stage is my absolute best and
I can feel it from my people
that let me know I’m doing
my job, And that’s why I love
doing what I do and that is to
ENTERTAIN on and off stage
and that’s what a true ICON
does and her name is MOTHA
JASMIN VAN WALES!
