The film “Beklenen Şarkı” (“The Expected Song”), marked his debut
appearance on cinema screens, together with the Turkish filmstar
Cahide Sonku who was also to become Türkiye’s first female
director. The musical film became an instant hit in the nation,
showcasing all of Müren’s 10 compositions and giving his fans the
opportunity to see the artist on the big screen. Overall, his film
career saw him act the leading role in 17 films, often named after his
own compositions.
"Beklenen Şarkı" filmi, Müren'in Türkiye'nin ilk kadın yönetmeni olacak
olan Türk sinema yıldızı Cahide Sonku ile birlikte ilk kez beyazperdede
göründüğü film oldu. Müzikal film, Müren'in 10 bestesinin tamamını
sergileyerek ve hayranlarına sanatçıyı beyaz perdede görme fırsatı
vererek ülkede bir anda hit oldu. Sinema kariyeri boyunca, çoğu kendi
bestelerinin adını taşıyan 17 filmde başrol oynadı.

Following two heart attacks in the early 1980s, Müren retreated to
Bodrum, becoming a cherished local delivering his final opus at the
historic Bodrum Castle in 1984. The concert's proceeds lavishly
funded the restoration of the town's ancient theatre, foreshadowing
the donation of his wealth to the Turkish Education Foundation and
the Turkish Armed Forces Mehmetçik Foundation in his will. In
true superstar fashion, he immortalised his superior rank in Turkish
popular culture by passing away during a live broadcast at TRT's
Izmir Radio studios in 1996. Though an unconventional hero for
conservative Türkiye, his passing sent the nation into mourning,
with tens of thousands attending his funeral.
1980'lerin başında geçirdiği iki kalp krizinin ardından Bodrum'a çekilen
Müren, 1984 yılında tarihi Bodrum Kalesi'nde son eserini seslendirerek
Bodrum'un sevilen bir yerlisi haline geldi. Konserden elde edilen gelirle
Bodrum'un antik tiyatrosunun restorasyonunu üstlenen Müren, vasiyeti
üzerine servetini Türk Eğitim Vakfı ve Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri Mehmetçik
Vakfı'na bağışladı. Gerçek bir süperstar edasıyla, 1996 yılında TRT'nin
İzmir Radyosu stüdyolarında canlı yayın sırasında vefat ederek Türk
popüler kültüründeki üstün rütbesini ölümsüzleştirdi. Muhafazakâr
Türkiye için alışılmadık bir kahraman olsa da, ölümü tüm ulusu yasa
boğdu ve cenazesine on binlerce kişi katıldı.
