Here are a
selections on double
pages from my
magazine. The brief
for this was the
question: ‘How has
music influenced the
evolution of fashion?’
I have also included
screenshots of some
pages in the
development stages.
For this I tried to
include as many of
my own photos as
possible, including
the figure in the
middle of the 60s
page and the right of
the punk page.
FINAL PIECE
For my final A Level Graphics project, I chose the brief Ephemera and focussed my
research and experimentation around the theme of dreams and transience. On the next
slide are examples of my process in reaching my final piece.
FINAL PIECE –
logo and
poster design
For this project, I
created a brief to
create a design for
a festival that could
be used for
advertisement and
merchandise. In the
end I decided to
create a piece
advertising the
1969 Woodstock
festival. I wanted to
find a balance
between a retro
and modern feel.
MUSIC FESTIVAL DESIGN
For this project I explored the use of typography in conveying a message. I wanted to create a design that could be transferred
onto a piece of clothing. I was able to print it onto a tote bag and give it as a Christmas present. On the left I have added
screenshots from my digital sketchbook of my research and experimentation on this project.
Foundation exploring
specialisms
A selection of mark making, observational
drawing and life drawing. Here are several
exercises which challenged me to step out
of my comfort zone. For these pieces I used
mainly charcoal along with ink and oil pastel
when adding colour
I have been
able to
a variety of
specialisms.
Here are some
quick exercises
and projects we
did for each.
Geometric shape experimentation
For this project I wanted to explore shape. Here are examples of some different
mediums I used when exploring shape in its original form. For the first top right
pieces, I used a random shape generator to decide the subject to create
unpredictable outcomes.
MANDALAS
Geometric shape experimentation
I wanted to explore symmetry and pattern through shape. For this I decided to focus on mandala art, taking inspiration
from the work of designer Y. Chernikov. I created these drawings using a compass, a ruler and a pencil which is the
beauty in this kind of art, its simplicity in creating such complex, detailed designs. After completing the drawings, I used
photoshop to turn them into repeating patterns which could be used for clothing or interior design such as curtains or a
tablecloth. I always like to consider ways in which I could see my art being presented or used in the real world.
We were tasked with a one-day project to create something that represented a British value. I
chose individual liberty and after exploring some more objective outcome ideas I decided to take a
more subjective route. This piece was designed to allow freedom of expression by allowing peers
free rein to add anything to this canvas. Here are some photos of the piece after people’s
additions. Something I really enjoyed about this piece was its collaborative aspect. I felt inspired by
the people around me which allowed the piece to expand and evolve in directions I’d never
considered.
Personal work
Finally, I have included pieces and projects done outside of assigned work in my own
time.
Although I haven’t explored photography in an educational form, I have always had an interest and I tend to prefer to use my own photos as
inspiration or to be incorporated into my work as it feels more authentic.
EXPERIMENTING WITH VALUE AND NEGATIVE SPACE
Here are photos of stages
of my architecture and
interior design course. In
this course we learnt about
using two-point
perspective to create
freehand accurate
structures. I have always
been interested in
including a form of
structure to my usual
abstract style, so this
allowed me to do just that.
These drawings were done
on A3 paper using 5B, 3B
and HB pencil
Here are a range of pieces that I
have created recently. I tend to
focus on experimentation when
doing my own work in order to
strengthen my skillset.
I have also included some pieces
I’m in the middle of at the moment.
The piece on the left is on A2 canvas using oil paints.
I wanted to use this piece as a testing ground for
texture using oils. I was amazed by the way the
colours blend and, in some cases, reject one another.
This piece has inspired me to begin a project with the
brief: ‘Imagination’. I intend to branch out into a wider
range of skills including textiles and woodwork. The
work on the right are examples of my first pieces
using oil pastel in a range of styles.

As evidence for collaborative work, I have included a couple of pieces of performance art
completed by myself and my peers. In the piece above we were tasked with creating a ‘score’.
We decided to create a set of verbal instructions to act as the ‘score’ which instructed
participants to use the materials provided to create what they were played through
headphones. We gave every participant a different song, resulting in a piece with a wide variety
of styles. The piece on the left was created by myself and two others by attaching ink-soaked
string to our fingers, tying the string together and allowing the force of pushing and pulling
which created an energetic, explosive piece. Both performance pieces pushed me out of my
comfort zone and allowed me to combine ideas with other artists which I found truly inspiring.
