reality show hits the TV screen
Commencing January
2011, a gold necklace
will be shown on Sirasa
TV between 7.30 and
9.00 pm. This is the
Sirasa Thirasa belt and
features three top rated
“Mangala Sihinaya”, Sri Lanka’s firstever
wedding reality show hit
local television screens in
January 2011 as Vogue
Jewellers and Sri Lanka’s
premier television channel
Sirasa TV, joined hands to
reward and entertain
hundreds of thousands of
television viewers across
the country. Billed to be
the most glamorous reality show
ever on Sri Lankan television, “Mangala
Sihinaya” brings with it 12 totally free
wedding packages
and 12 gold necklaces
during each month of
the year – a dream
come true for bridesto-be.

– “Sihina Sithuwam”, “Ganga
Addara” and “Vehi Pabalu Sela”. Viewers
should count the number
of times the Vogue gold
necklace appears on screen
and send as many postcards
to “Mangala
Sihinaya”, Sirasa
TV, P O Box 929,
Colombo or SMS
number to7788.
Viewers also need
to nominate a couple getting
married during 2011 with
every entry, to qualify. The
lucky couples will be
shortlisted at each
monthly draw, from which
one lucky couple will be
chosen by a panel of
interviewers. The lucky couple’s
wedding dream will be made a
reality by Sirasa TV and Vogue
Jewellers.
Sirasa TV will also feature the entire
wedding of each monthly
winning couple in the new
“Mangala Sihinaya Reality Show”. This
show will recreate the couple’s journey
from the very first time they met, down
the line, right up to the wedding. In addition
to this, another lucky winner from the
general public (and not necessarily a
bride or groom), will also be in the
running to win a gold necklace
from Vogue Jewellers
each month.

The first draw was held at “The Wedding
Show” at the BMICH on 14, 15 and 16
January and the first edition of the
“Mangala Sihinaya Reality Show” was
run on Sirasa television at 9.00 pm on
Wednesdays in January.

Colombo, The Blue Water provide
the perfect getaway for couples
who want to escape the hustle and
bustle of Colombo, yet be close to
the city. Designed by the renowned
architect Geoffrey Bawa, The Blue
Water with its vast courtyards and
spaces offer a spectacular view of
the sea, through groves of coconut
palms.
The pleasant and helpful hotel staff
welcomes you with big smiles making
you relaxed from the time you drive
in to the hotel. The choice of chilled
thambili and a mixed fruit juice
offered as the welcome drink when
we were checking in was indeed
refreshing. You are also welcomed
by a bottle of wine and a fruit
basket in the room.
The Blue Water has 83 Deluxe
Rooms , 13 Superior Deluxe rooms
as well as 4 suites. Housed on the
top most floor of the hotel, the suites
provide privacy, comfort and a
magnificent view of the sea. Each of
these spacious suites have a separate
dining, living and sitting area

with a wide screen TV (with satellite
TV) where you and your partner
can relax while watching TV.
Coffee and tea making facilities as
well as a well stocked mini bar is
available for your usage. The rooms
are air conditioned with individual
temperature controls or you can use
the fans as an alternative. The large
bedroom consists of a king size
bed, a spacious closet and yet
another big wide screen TV and a
DVD player. Both the living area
and the bed room open up to a
large balcony with a wooden table
and chairs, and a splendid view of
the Indian Ocean. The suite's bathrooms
are equipped with a Jacuzzi,
His & Her Vanity, and a shower
area. There is also a separate
bathroom for guests (if you're
having any!) connected to the living
room area.
The beach is lovely… good for an
evening stroll when the sun is not too
hot and in the evenings providing a
breathtaking view of the sunset. You
can even watch the fishermen bringing
in their daily catch in the morning!
The hotel also has a large pool
nestled in the palm
groves which is
ideal for an
evening dip. There
are plenty of sun
beds around the
pool and the staff
is quick to attend to
your needs, fetching
cushions and
towels, arranging
the beds and
checking if you need a drink or
snack.
The Blue Water Spa offers an
excellent range of treatments and
you will have the chance to savor
one another's company as you enjoy
a luxury spa treatment if you wish
for one. Gym services are also
available if you wish to work out.
The food is excellent with choice
and variation. There are theme
nights that offer you tastes from
around the world and on the day
we visited we were treated to a
gala, hawker style buffet which had
a mix of international cuisines. The
buffet started with a variety of
salads including a baked fish salad
and a duck salad which was
combined with a sweet pineapple
salad. The Thai rice soup with
chicken which followed the salads
was particularly nice. Some of the
main dishes included chicken and
pineapple rice, Indian food (i.e.
dosai, wadai, mani pittu), and
pasta which were served via a
pasta action station. Dim sum
proved to be an interesting addition
to the buffet. You can either
choose to dine indoors or on the
terrace where you can enjoy the
sea breeze and the sounds of
crashing waves. However, if you
want to escape the heat, especially
during day - dine inside. And room
service is of course, available if you
want to enjoy your food in your
private terrace!
It must be mentioned that the hotel

staff is extremely courteous and
helpful. And this will make your stay
at The Blue Water a perfect one!

Pimple free at last!
As many people suffer from
acne at some point in life lets
learn about acne and how to
combat it.
How Acne Develops :
Acne, a skin disorder is caused by
plugged pores on the skin. Acne lesions
arise through sebaceous glands and hair
follicles in the middle layer of skin. The
main reason for acne development is
overproduction of sebum that clogs
pores. Sebum production is affected by
male hormones called androgens, hence
fluctuations in hormonal balance or
stimulation of male hormones lead to
acne. Excess sebum production leads to
cell lining of the follicle wall to overproduce,
resulting in dead cell build up,
which along with the extra sebum, plugs
canals and accumulate. The bacteria
present on the skin surface then invade
these clogged ducts and attract white
blood cells of the immune system and
the infected area becomes inflamed.
Non-inflammatory acne is the common
form of acne called ‘comedo’. When a
comedo’s pore is closed and the plug
remains inside the skin, it is called a
whitehead (small whitish bumps). When
the pore is open and the plug pushes
through the skin on the outer surface, it is
called a blackhead. Although these
forms of acne are non-inflammatory, if
not controlled they could turn into red
swollen inflammatory acne lesions
(papules, pustules, nodules, cysts, maculae
and scars) which take time to heal.
Treatment:
Sothys Professional Skin Care from

A Bridal Nightmare
I am Dr Nimal Gamage with 25 years of
experience in the United States of
America which is the cosmetic capital of
the world. I have been trained in the
latest techniques of Cosmetic Laser for
the past fifteen years and Cosmetic
Surgery during the past ten years. I
have specialized in Cardiology, as well
as Internal Medine as well as General
Surgery.
Last year I started a cosmetic surgery
and laser practice in Sri Lanka to
introduce several new techniques for
those who are interested in looking
young and beautiful. Everybody needs
to stay on a good diet and follow a
daily routine of proper exercise while
maintaining a healthy life style to stay
looking young. Still as we get older or
due to faulty habits we may collect fat
in areas of the body making us go out
of shape.
Liposculpting with local anesthesia
provides patients with safe liposuction
with less pain, no risk to life, faster
recovery and better results compared to
traditional liposuction which is
performed under general anesthesia.
With traditional liposuction under
general anesthesia, even in the hands of
the best surgeons of the world, a certain
percentage of patients end up dying.
The local anesthesia technique I use is
unique to my practice. Most people do
not realize that losing weight can
actually make them look older and
make them go out of shape unless you
combine liposculpting with the diet and
exercise methods. Once a patient has
gained weight the proper way to get
back in shape, is to do the liposuction
first to remove the external fat and then
follow a diet and exercise program to
lose the remaining inner fat. Otherwise
the person can end up with loose skin as
they continue to lose weight, which can
be very unsightly.
Look at these pictures to see what
typically happens following rapid and
massive weight loss. Patients should
consider liposuction at the height of their
weight to get into shape and then lose
weight slowly for the best outcome. To

avoid excessive loosening of the skin it
is only recommended to lose 3-4
pounds of weight for a month.
One of the biggest concerns in ageing
is the loss of fat from the face, breasts
and buttocks in females. Females
usually age starting from around the
age of 35 years. Males lose their fat in
the face and buttocks starting around
the age of 40. Rapid ageing of
females is related to the fact that they
are not suitable candidates for reproduction
following that age.
Basically ageing is designed to make us
unattractive for mating purposes. At the
same time storage fat increases in size
as we get older. Our early ancestors
had a hard time getting their nutrition
and had to store whatever nutrition
they got as fat. Another important fact
is that fat contains a higher concentration
of stem cells compared to any
other tissues in the body. Stem cells
have the potential to become other
cells and are involved with tissue repair
and regeneration.
The latest techniques of cosmetic
surgery use the above scientific facts to
remove excess fat from the body and
rejuvenate ageing areas of the body
using the same fat.
Fat Grafting to the face using my own
techniques provide the best facial
rejuvenation and can make a 65 year
old person look 40 years old, without
having to do a single cut in the face.
These days most of us are gainfully
employed well into out middle age and
our facial wrinkles provide us with a
great disadvantage when we compete
for the same jobs with those without
wrinkles. Most people tell me that when
they look in the mirror what they see is
not them. Sometimes they tell me that ' I
feel young inside. I just want to look as
young as I feel.' They don't want to look
like a teenager. But they
certainly would appreciate it if they
could look less tired, happier and more
refreshed.

cosmetic surgical techniques are getting
very popular around the world is
‘safety considerations’. A study several
years ago in a major peer reviewed
plastic surgery journal demonstrated a
1/5000 mortality rate from liposuction
under general anesthesia. When
liposuction is performed properly
under purely local anesthesia there
have been no mortalities. Now I have
performed over 11000 cases without
any mortality. Mortality associated
with tumescent anesthesia only occurred
when the tumescent anesthesia was
combined with General Anesthesia and
other sedatives.
The next reason is faster recovery. With
new techniques patients are back at
work on the same day. They can return
to all of their exercises within a week.
There are a few reasons whey you get
better results with the new techniques.
The ability to always position patients
exactly is crucial to obtaining a
perfectly sculpted, smooth result. It is
imperative to never poke or jab or tent
the skin from underneath as I feel this is
the most common cause of irregularities,
dents and ripples, as well as
incomplete results.
Results as seen in picture 4 was
obtained in three weeks following
liposuction of the abdomen.

of the lower and the middle back.
Results are obtained in three weeks.
Fat collection of under arm region and
hanging skin of the same area is a
common problem among women. Laser
liposuction can remove this Bat Wing
fat collection very effectively.
Fat collection in the chin bothers both
female and male patients. Laser
liposuction provide a younger and a
prettier look within two weeks following
the procedure.
Outer thigh fat collection or the
"Saddle Bag" collection is very common
among women. With
laser liposuction these patients can fit
into tighter clothes.
Tummy Tuck is performed to removed
the excess loose skin which usually
occurs following pregnancies or weight
gain. It also removes excessive stretch
marks in the lower abdomen. Patients
will end up with a linear scar in the
lower abdomen which can be hidden
underneath clothes. In some patients
excess skin of the lower back region
can also be removed to improve the
appearance of the back region.
Facial rejuvenation with fat grafting is
far superior to the traditional face lift.
This technique is replacing the face lift
in California very fast. Result is a
natural young look unlike the
windswept look of the traditional
facelift. A patient can look 10-15
years younger. This technique treats
wrinkles of the face including frown
lines, craws feet lines and nasolabial
folds. I have performed over 1200 of
these surgeries.
Breast augmentation with fat grafting
is becoming very popular around the
world. This procedure allows a very
natural look and feel, avoids long term
complications and
cost of breast
implantation with
saline or silicone.

The patient can return to work the next
day. Recent studies show that males are
sexually turned off by the feel of
breast implants. I have performed over
600 breast fat grafting cases and I am
one of the first surgeons to have started
this technique in California.
Buttock augmentation is one of the most
popular trends in California. Buttocks
loose tone and volume with ageing in
both genders. Fat grafting provides the
most natural look and feel and avoids
the complications of implants. I have
performed over 800 buttock augmentations
with fat grafting.
In addition to above surgical techniques
I used the most advanced new lasers to
anti-age the skin as well as remove
major defects of the skin caused by
acne, pigmentation or ageing. IPL
combined with Radiofrequency is the
best way to anti-age the skin and get
the best looking skin. Fraxel using
Erbium is the best laser for the Sri
Lankan skin types to remove acne scars
and pigmentation.
