Notebook Life & Times Take note! We’ve rounded up the best of what to see and do near you istockphoto.com/ writerfantast Beautiful Belmont Belmont near Faversham is often described as a ‘hidden gem’ of Kent, although perhaps not so hidden if you caught this elegant 18th century house – designed by Samuel Wyatt – and its glorious grounds on the Antiques Roadshow last year. The country house contains a number of impressive collections including Britain’s largest collection of Cazabon paintings and an extraordinary collections of clocks and watches. There are also the gorgeous gardens and cricket pitch (fixtures on website) to explore, amid this 3,000 acre estate. Best of all the tearoom is open all year round! They are hosting a number of events over the next few months including some tempting workshops. How about trying your hand at macrame, linocut printing, wild classroom family cooking or taking a tour of the clock collection or herb garden. We’ve got our eye on the paper peony workshop – run by Nicola Chatten from Plant and Paper – on May 13th. Take a look at the website and see what takes your fancy. belmont-house.org 19 See the works of Beethoven live on stage, performed by the English Piano Trio on 11th April at 7.30pm for the penultimate show of G Live’s annual Guildford International Concert Series. Renowned for their original and innovative Words and Music programmes, the English Piano Trio with distinguished actors Christopher Ravenscroft and Ann Penfold, portray Beethoven’s complex life. Combining contemporary accounts and letters with key repertoire from his great piano trios and most beloved piano sonatas, this promises to be a fascinating exploration of Beethoven’s iconic life and music. Tickets prices range from £12.50 to £35. trafalgartickets.com/g-live-guildford CHERRY CHARTWELL We love beautiful spring blossom and if you too are on the look out for places to enjoy this seasonal dose of joy, make sure to put Chartwell on your list. They are hosting an Easter Egg Hunt from 29th March until 14th April, and alongside the blossom, the trail will be decorated with hand-painted silk flags designed by local community groups thanks to kinetika.co.uk. Chocolate eggs and cherry blossom, what more could you want? nationaltrust.org.uk priceless-magazines.com
