EDITO
— Virtual Healthcare Assistants
As a healthcare professional, your number one priority is providing
satisfactory services to the patient. In this, customer service plays
a vital role. Late replies to patient queries, incorrectly scheduling
appointments and inefficient communication can impact patient
experience but also erode trust in healthcare services. To prevent
this from happening, incorporate AI-powered digital assistants in
customer service. These digital assistants can instantly answer
patient queries, provide information regarding services, schedule
appointments and even offer medication reminders to the patient.
This way, you not only enhance the patient's experience but also
save time, which you could use on other activities related to
patient care.
Furthermore, virtual healthcare assistants are available 24/7. They
are available round the clock, providing patients with assistance
at any time. This is particularly helpful for individuals who want
quick responses to non-emergency queries.
— Improving Administrative Functioning
If you're working as a healthcare administrator, you encounter
various challenges while managing the administrative aspect of
healthcare. One key challenge that many healthcare administrators
face is keeping up with the changing healthcare regulations and
ensuring compliance. When you incorporate AI in administrative
operations, the AI systems will continuously monitor the latest
regulations, ensuring that the administrative processes remain
aligned with the most up-to-date regulatory standards. Moreover,
precise billing poses a challenge for healthcare administrators.
With AI, this can be addressed. AI assists in automating billing
processes, hence improving accuracy. This will streamline the
billing process and reduce the likelihood of errors associated
with manual tasks.
Furthermore, in the healthcare industry, the recruitment of skilled
staff poses a significant challenge. By leveraging AI to automate
administrative functions, you and your team can allocate more
time and attention to addressing complex tasks, such as the hiring
of qualified personnel.
— Personalized Medical Treatment
As a physician, if you want help in devising personalized treatment
plans for your patients, AI can help in this regard. The AI algorithms
analyze the patient's medical history, lifestyle factors, and genetic
makeup, and based on these, recommends treatment plans. This
allows physicians to tailor treatment plans to address specific
challenges the patient faces.
— Remote Monitoring
Were you aware that you can remotely monitor your patient's vital
signs and health metrics without frequent in-person visits? This
capability is made possible through the seamless integration of
AI with wearable devices. These wearable devices enable the
acquisition of real-time health data, facilitating continuous remote
monitoring of your patient's well-being. They can continuously track
various health metrics, including heart rate and blood pressure,
providing healthcare professionals with a comprehensive, realtime
picture of a patient's overall well-being. This is especially
advantageous for individuals with chronic diseases. By analyzing
diverse health metrics, health professionals can offer timely
interventions, mitigating potential health risks.
Furthermore, the AI-powered wearables can be programmed to
generate alerts for healthcare professionals to track the health
metrics when they deviate from the normal range. This will help
healthcare professionals intervene immediately before the patient's
health deteriorates. Moreover, these devices contribute data for
population health analytics. These devices collect health metrics,
patterns and other valuable data from the patients. Then, the data
is aggregated and analyzed using AI algorithms to understand the
health trends. Based on this information, health professionals can
create tailored community health strategies.
L’Intelligence
Artificielle au service
de l’intégration
technologique
Propos recueillis par Yann Roll
Fondée en 2005 au Luxembourg,
Satisco se positionne comme un partenaire
incontournable dans le secteur des technologies
d'intégration, alliant une expertise solide dans
le middleware à une vision avant-gardiste de
l'intelligence artificielle (IA).
consultants à long terme, notre volonté est
Breaking Ground in AI:
HPE'S
RESPONSE
TO UNIQUE
CHALLENGES IN
GENERATIVE AI
By Yann Roll
Dive into the future of AI-driven innovation as
Stefan De Schuyter, Belux Chief Technologist
at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, unveils how the
organization is taking the lead in addressing the
unique challenges of Generative AI, redefining
computing power, data pipelines, and storage
systems to propel groundbreaking advancements
in technology.
HPE's technology for AI-native
implementations is composed of software
and hardware building-blocks tailored
for distinct domains: Data, Training,
Inference, and MLOps.
What qualifies HPE as a pivotal player in enabling
AI-driven innovation?
"Based on many years of R&D, accompanied with strategic
investments and acquisitions in leading HPC and AI hardware,
as well as software technologies, HPE is uniquely positioned to
assist our customers with their AI ambitions. We aim to guide and
support them on their AI journey. A lot of technological innovations
and expertise has been built over the last couple of years."
"The last decade was a transformation to a new economic model
driven by cloud-native architectures. The next decade is all
about business transformation made possible by open, AI-native
architectures based on supercomputing principles which should
be hybrid-by-design. Among the various attributes of an AI-native
architecture, we can pinpoint four essential aspects."
"One workload for ten, hundred, even thousands of nodes - This
means that the architecture should be designed with computing
and infrastructure that is at the scale of supercomputing to take
full advantage of computing capacity. This is essential to train,
retrain and tune AI models using large quantities of data with
efficiency, speed and accuracy to accelerate time to value."
"Hybrid by design provides the flexibility to train, tune and deploy
AI models in any environment. Customers need the flexibility to
integrate data that exists in their own environment, which is often
confidential and restricted. Combined with data in the cloud, at
remote locations, at the edge of their operations. Enterprises
need to be able to deploy AI inferencing everywhere, where they
can derive real-time insights."
"Open to accelerate AI innovation - An open hardware and software
ecosystem delivers strong advantages. Having an open AI ecosystem
expands training and inferencing market solutions to accelerate
adoption and support ongoing innovation in the broader ecosystem."
"Sustainable by design - By 2028, it is estimated that AI workloads
will require about 20 GW of power within data centers. Customers
will need to rely on sustainable IT architectures at a new level of
energy-efficiency to minimize the impact of their carbon footprint."
Generative AI is undoubtedly a game-changing technology
with huge potential for disruption. However, this
technology presents unique challenges, particularly in
terms of computing power, data pipeline architectures,
storage systems, not to mention the rapid adaptation to
new foundational models. How does HPE address these
constraints?
Generative AI and AI-native workloads require a
fundamentally different architecture that HPE is
uniquely positioned to provide.
Stefan De Schuyter
Belux Chief Technologist,
Hewlett Packard Enterprise
"Generative AI and AI-native workloads require a fundamentally
different architecture that HPE is uniquely positioned to provide.
An AI-native architecture is different than a traditional data center
or cloud-native architecture. Those are optimized to run multiple
workloads on a single server, they were not designed with AI in mind."
"An AI-native architecture is an end-to-end solution that integrates
a machine learning software platform, computer, accelerators,
and networking to develop, train and fine tune more accurate
AI models faster, and at scale. Data preparation, Model training
and Inference are the three pillars of an AI-native solution stack
simplifying and unifying the professions of data engineers and
data scientists, not to forget IT operations."
"With Data Preparation, we refer to different aspects of simplifying
data transformations to make sure model training is done on the
right data. Providing visibility into the origin of data, movement of
data during the machine learning lifecycle. Tracking of different
data versions and incremental processing, ensuring only changed
data is processed. Probably the most important and challenging
aspect in many AI projects.”
"For Model Training, it is important to take advantage of distributed
training capabilities on a pool of GPU resources. Cluster resource
sharing simplifies the use of expensive GPUs through scheduling
making it easier for IT admins to set up, manage, secure, and share
AI compute clusters. Enhancing model accuracy is made possible
by scalable hyperparameter search. Collaborations and tracking
of experiments allow interpretation of experiment results.”
"When it comes to Inference, it is fundamental to securely connect,
manage and control the inference infrastructure often located in
remote locations. A big challenge is to continuously control deployed
models, ensuring quality, monitoring behavior, and detecting
anomalies, particularly with distributed systems at the network edge."
“Operating an end-to-end AI-native platform requires streamlined IT
Operations across the entire model lifecycle. From experimentation
to production deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. It fills
the gap and unifies disciplines of data engineering, data science
and IT operations, often defined as MLops.
"HPE’s AI-native reference architectures cover all these domains:
hardware, software and services bundled into a single turn-key
solution."
How does HPE's GreenLake As-a-Service model facilitate the
adoption of AI technologies architectures, and how does it
help engage in AI initiatives?
"HPE GreenLake facilitates the adoption of AI technologies by
providing a flexible, scalable, and managed solution. Think about
having your own Hyperscaler on-prem, but more cost effective,
providing much better control and addressing many data compliance
issues. HPE's GreenLake allows organizations to focus on innovation
and AI model development with trust, while ensuring efficient
resource utilization and cost management.
But there is more. With the announcement last year of HPE
GreenLake for Large Langue Models, HPE is making supercomputing
and AI-native technologies available to enterprises of all sizes, to
rapidly train, tune, and deploy LLMs using a sustainable AI-native
platform that combines HPE’s supercomputers and AI software."
At HPE Discover Barcelona last November, HPE announced an
expanded strategic collaboration with NVIDIA. What are the
expected outcomes of this strengthened partnership in terms
of improved competitiveness, faster-to-market technology
development and other direct industrial benefits?
"Building AI-native architectures is always done together with ecosystem
partners. At the latest HPE Discover event in Barcelona,
we expanded our strategic collaboration with NVIDIA to build an
enterprise computing solution for GenAI. A solution based on an open,
full-stack AI-native architecture that incorporates a curated mix of
software and infrastructure designed specifically to accelerate the
AI lifecycle. The new offerings reduce the barriers of IT and deliver
full-stack AI-native solutions that enable organizations to effectively
train, tune and inference their AI models, from edge to cloud.
Together with NVIDIA, we offer an extensive portfolio of optimized
AI solutions that provide exceptional performance, management
capabilities, and flexibility to accelerate transformation and pioneer
a changing world. As established leaders in supercomputing and
AI, HPE and NVIDIA give companies the innovation they need to
gain competitive advantage now and in the future."
de la certification « Great Place to Work ».
Security
By Michaël Renotte
The importance of data security cannot be overstated
in tech-oriented firms, and it is increasingly relying
on artificial intelligence applications. With sensitive
information stored online, businesses need to
ensure data security to meet legal and operational
obligations. Today, this task is both vital and
challenging, leading many companies to deploy AIbased
security solutions to protect their data from
unauthorized access.
In our interconnected world, the role of AI in business is crucial.
As cyberattacks become more sophisticated, estimates indicate
that security teams will increasingly rely on AI solutions to
defend systems and safeguard data.
AI plays a critical role in identifying unknown threats that may go
unnoticed by humans. Hackers launch countless attacks each
year, and some can cause severe damage to networks before
they are even recognized. Deploying contemporary AI solutions
helps organizations prevent unexpected threats and minimize
disruptions caused by malware infections or advanced attacks.
AI also excels in identifying flaws in systems, such as data overflow
in a buffer. It can detect and notify in real-time when programs
consume excessive data, mitigating the risks of data loss or system
failures. Additionally, AI, with the support of machine learning, aids in
identifying vulnerabilities and weaknesses, including programming
language flaws that hackers exploit to gain unauthorized access.
AI technology continues to evolve in the cybersecurity field, enabling
it to detect and prevent threats more effectively. Its advanced
versions can identify system flaws and updates, automatically
blocking any attempts to exploit them. AI acts as an excellent tool
for threat prevention, deploying additional firewalls and addressing
code vulnerabilities that may lead to cyber threats.
When a threat infiltrates the system, AI plays a crucial role in
responding effectively. By detecting unusual behavior and analyzing
virus or malware patterns, AI swiftly takes action to remove
the infection, patch vulnerabilities and mitigate the damage.
Furthermore, AI ensures that preventive measures are in place to
minimize the possibility of similar incidents occurring in the future.
AI's ability to recognize uncharacteristic actions is another valuable
aspect. Through continuous monitoring and data analysis, AI can
identify unusual behavior or unauthorized access attempts. AI
employs machine learning techniques to differentiate between
genuine threats and false alarms, continuously improving its
ability to detect even minor anomalies. This enables AI to alert
organizations of potential issues or vulnerabilities within their
systems.
In summary, AI plays a critical role in data security, helping
businesses identify and prevent unknown threats, detect and
respond to vulnerabilities, and recognize unusual behavior within
systems. By leveraging AI technology, organizations can enhance
their cybersecurity measures and protect their digital assets from
unauthorized access and potential harm.
AI also excels in identifying flaws in
systems, such as data overflow in a buffer.
It can detect and notify in real-time when
programs consume excessive data, mitigating
the risks of data loss or system failures.
Generative AI:
The new frontier in
technological innova
Few technologies have debuted to as much consumer
and media fanfare as Generative AI (GenAI). This
rapid expansion has fostered an increasing conviction
among enterprises that GenAI holds the promise to
greatly enhance, if not replace, the most complex
and unstructured paths of value generation. With
more than a year of hype around this new technology
(after the November 2022 launch of ChatGPT), we
have seen an explosion in terms of user-awareness,
experimentation, innovation along with a few
pioneers spearheading GenAI adoption. What have
we learned and what do we anticipate on the GenAI
horizon in 2024?
— Reflecting on 2023 – Experimentation
before production
In 2023, GenAI investment surged, exceeding EUR 12 billion in
venture capital investments in Q1 of 2023 (almost tripling that
of Q1 2022). The game-changing quality of GenAI is evident, as
companies that integrate it experience immediate benefits
at both micro and macro levels. GenAI assistants applied on a
company’s existing knowledge base enhance the contributions of
new or inexperienced workers and propel experienced workers to
quickly reach new productivity levels. Considering that the GenAI
market is foreseen to double every other year for the next decade,
organizations are investigating the best route to secure their share.
— Overcoming the challenges – Unlock benefits
of GenAI in production
To move from GenAI experimentation to operationalizing these
solutions, companies should understand the main challenges. The
economic downturn in 2023 introduced investment tradeoffs to
many businesses, hindering their ability to acquire foundational
technologies and upskill their workforce. In such a complex global
environment, company leadership must identify strategies for
long-term resilience.
Organization can use key lessons from the past year to shape their
GenAI vision, foster cross-organizational AI awareness, and make
smart GenAI investment decisions:
• Fast-changing environment: Navigating the ever-changing
tech landscape and taking advantage of the latest technology
requires strong guardrails for safe and secure solutions.
Building enterprise platform capabilities offers flexibility to
seamlessly switch between models, whether on-premises or
through cloud-based systems.
Yet, the past year revealed a stark reality — mass activity, interest,
investments mainly delivered proofs of concept (PoCs) and demos,
due to disjointed approaches and other market challenges. A
Deloitte CEO survey in October 2023 shows only 17% operationalized
a GenAI use case, while 34% are in limited production, and 49%
remain in evaluation and experimentation phases.
Many companies, despite untapped potential, are in the
experimentation phase, providing insights for a potential shift
toward GenAI industrialization.
• Lack of transparency in contractual documentation:
Ambiguities in Large Language Models (LLM) terms of use
could hinder GenAI adoption. Like any software, GenAI providers
should clarify how their LLMs are built to ensure alignment on
data usage, legal compliance and security principles. The AI
Act is expected to address this issue by mandating AI model
assessments to prevent unauthorized activities.
• Ethical challenges and user trust: GenAI models face ethical
dilemmas, such as hallucinations and accountability issues,
bias and IP rights. Evaluating sources for LLM training ensures
data trustworthiness. Consumer demands for transparency
push the need for additional legislative and societal structures
to address ethical concerns.
• Dependence on high quality prompts: User adoption challenges
persist, requiring end-user comprehension of GenAI, as the
effectiveness of ChatGPT-like systems depends on the quality
of user prompts. Educating the organization to effectively
prompt GenAI is vital in overcoming this challenge.
— Realizing the future – Our outlook on
what is to come
GenAI is a strategic focus area on C-level agendas across industries,
with peak productivity expected between 2025 and 2027, encouraging
organizations to prepare and invest now for increased efficiency
gains.
As software vendors integrate additional AI and GenAI solutions
into standard offerings (e.g., Microsoft CoPilot integrated into the
wider M365 offering), GenAI use will shift into the mainstream and
foster broader user literacy.
In Luxembourg, leaders in GenAI exploration and adoption are
primarily Financial Services Institutions (FSI) and EU Institutions.
Previously confined to low creativity and context variability,
automation now benefits businesses heavily relying on unstructured
documents, both paper-based and digital. GenAI’s proficiency in
In 2023, GenAI investment surged,
exceeding EUR 12 billion in venture capital
investments in Q1 of 2023 (almost tripling
that of Q1 2022).
processing and exploring unstructured content hint at broader
applications in other sectors locally and globally in the coming year.
Looking ahead to 2024, developments in GenAI will not only fortify
ongoing developments, bring concrete operational efficiencies and
revenue gains for early adopters, but also unveil new groundbreaking
use cases.
— Conclusion
GenAI’s potential is unfolding, requiring widespread AI literacy
across all organizations. To unlock its value, empowering teams
with confidence and freedom to experiment is crucial, supported
by substantial investment. A persistent focus on privacy, security,
trust and explainability is vital, ensuring compliance with upcoming
AI regulations. Building a strong foundation in digital and AI
capabilities is also critical to emphasizing technology infrastructure
that gives the flexibility and computing power needed to properly
empower AI, data management that feeds AI models, and change
management to upskill staff and guide restructuring as needed
to adapt to new ways of working.
The recent integration into NTT DATA
Inc. marks a significant milestone in
the evolution of NTT Luxembourg.
This strategic move follows our earlier
expansion four years ago, where we
merged over 30 companies under NTT Ltd.
"What sets us apart now is our ability to assume complete
accountability for a project's outcome, from start to finish. This
ensures that our clients receive not just a service, but a fully-fledged
solution for their specific needs and challenges. The integration
with NTT DATA Inc. isn't just an expansion—it's a leap towards a
future where our service offerings and customer experiences are
seamlessly interconnected, highly efficient and impeccably secure."
Could you elaborate more explicitly on those new capacities in
the field of software applications that NTT DATA Inc. brings to
Luxembourg?
"The new capabilities can be classified into three distinct pillars.
Firstly, within the realm of ‘Applications Development and
Modernization’, our focus is on crafting innovative solutions.
This involves the development of cutting-edge applications that
seamlessly integrate data and Artificial Intelligence, associated
with modernization practices, leveraging cloud-native platforms.
Moving to the ‘Applications Integration’ pillar, our expertise
comes to the forefront. Here, we specialize in the integration
and customization of diverse platforms, including ServiceNow
and Microsoft applications. Last but not least, the third pillar
is centered around ‘SAP’. From consulting and implementation
to migration, hosting, and managed services, our SAP offerings
cover the entire spectrum. This versatility enables us to address
the diverse requirements of our clients, providing robust solutions
tailored to their unique business landscapes."
As a SAP Global Preferred Supplier, what strategies do you
implement to maintain high standards and stay ahead in a
competitive market?
"Being an SAP Global Preferred Supplier, we implement several
key strategies to maintain high standards and a competitive edge.
Firstly, continuous learning and development are paramount. We
ensure NTT DATA’s team is constantly trained and certified in
the latest SAP technologies and methodologies. This expertise
is critical in delivering cutting-edge solutions to our clients.
Secondly, we invest in developing proprietary tools and solutions
that complement SAP’s offerings, providing added value to our
clients. Lastly, we focus on building strong relationships with SAP
and staying aligned with their roadmap, ensuring we are always
at the forefront of the latest developments and innovations. Our
status as a preferred supplier translates into several benefits for
our clients, including priority access to SAP's latest solutions and
updates, better pricing, and enhanced support. This status also
means that our team is always up-to-date with SAP's roadmap,
enabling us to provide strategic advice to our clients."
What specific strategies are you employing to develop and
expand the SAP market locally, and how do you tailor your
SAP solutions to meet the unique demands of the market in
Luxembourg?
"Currently, our focus is on sectors where SAP has strong offerings –
such as finance, manufacturing and public services. These sectors
are pivotal to Luxembourg's economy and represent areas where we
can deliver the most impact with our SAP expertise. In Luxembourg,
our strategy to develop and expand the SAP market hinges on
a deep understanding of local business needs and regulatory
requirements. We engage closely with local companies to identify
their unique challenges and tailor our SAP solutions accordingly.
For instance, in the financial sector, which is predominant in
Luxembourg, we incorporate specific regulatory compliance
features into our SAP solutions. This localized approach ensures
that our solutions are not just technologically robust but also
highly relevant and compliant with local business environments."
Could you share insights from any joint engagements, such as
the collaboration with the international leader in the baking
industry, CSM Ingredients, that showcase your collaborative
strengths? What key learnings have you gathered that inform
your future strategies?
"Our joint engagement with CSM Ingredients is a prime example of
our collaborative strengths. In this project, we effectively combined
our SAP expertise with CSM Ingredients' industry knowledge to
create a solution that significantly improved their operational
efficiency and data analytics capabilities. Key learnings from
this and similar engagements include the importance of close
collaboration with clients to understand their industry-specific
needs. It has also reinforced the value of flexibility in our approach
and the necessity of strong project management skills. These
experiences are instrumental in shaping our future strategies,
ensuring that we remain adaptable, client-focused and innovative
in our solutions."
"In essence, the new capabilities brought by NTT DATA Inc. to
Luxembourg represent a significant leap in our ability to offer
comprehensive IT solutions."
l'Ingénieur
au Cœur de
l'Entreprise
pour une
Innovation
Durable
Propos recueillis par Yann Roll
Chez TMC Luxembourg, l'ingénieur occupe
une place centrale, façonnant véritablement
la direction technologique de l'entreprise.
Alec Van Der Snickt, Sales Director, nous
présente cette approche novatrice, axée sur
l'employeneurship, qui offre une flexibilité
et une autonomie sans précédent aux
ingénieurs, créant ainsi un environnement
propice à l'épanouissement du sentiment
d'adhésion et de l'innovation.
Alec Van Der Snickt
Sales Director, TMC Luxembourg
l'intelligence artificielle, » explique Laurent Hennico. « L'objectif
Lightspeed’, notre service d’intelligence artificielle générative
SHAPING OUR DA
EXPERIENCES
A decade ago, when we journey back in time, Artificial
Intelligence was once a realm of science fiction,
something we primarily encountered through movies.
Fast-forward, AI has become an integral part of our
lives, particularly in the domain of lifestyle. Whether
it is shopping, entertainment, or cooking, AI has
revolutionized various aspects of our daily lives. In
this blog, we will look into some of the compelling
applications of AI and learn how AI applications are
reshaping our day-to-day experiences. Here are some
of the AI applications that contribute to simplifying
and enhancing various aspects of our lives.
— 1. Chatbots
If you had visited an e-commerce website, you might have
encountered a bot-like image at the bottom of a page. This botlike
image is a chatbot. A chatbot is a computer program that
is designed to converse with humans over the internet. It uses
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) to
understand and respond to user queries or commands. One of the
prominent examples of chatbots is ChatGPT. The ChatGPT is powered
by AI and is capable of doing almost anything, from writing blogs,
coding assistance, and problem-solving to language translation.
Besides ChatGPT, chatbots are also used for customer support.
When you visit an e-commerce website, you will see a customer
support chatbot employed on the website. A customer support
chatbot is designed to handle customer queries, be it answering
questions related to the products, resolving issues, or tracking orders.
ChatGPT and customer support chatbots are some examples of AI
that contribute significantly to simplifying tasks in our daily lives.
— 2. Healthcare Diagnostics
AI is making great strides in healthcare, particularly in diagnostics.
In healthcare diagnostics, radiologists assess X-rays and MRIs to
detect anomalies with the naked eye. Sometimes this would lead
to overlooking subtle anomalies or making interpretation errors.
With AI, human errors are reduced. AI algorithms are designed
to detect subtle anomalies that are challenging for the human
eye to detect. This can aid in the early detection of diseases and
conditions. The early detection of diseases and conditions often
leads to more effective treatment and improved chances of recovery.
— 3. Smart Homes and Automation
AI-powered smart home devices have transformed the way we
live. These devices integrated with AI can learn user habits and
preferences, adjusting lighting, temperature, and security settings
accordingly. In addition to this, there are voice-activated virtual
assistance devices like Alexa and Google Home, which are powered
by AI and natural processing language to perform various tasks
based on the requests made. You can interact with Alexa and
Google Home to play music, get weather updates, control smart
home devices, set reminders, and more.
— 4. Language Translation
Picture yourself in a foreign country, seeking directions to a specific
location, only to find that the person you approach doesn't speak
either your language or English. In this situation, what would you
do? If the first person doesn't understand, you would try asking
multiple people who would understand your language or English.
Doing this is arduous. To overcome this, there are AI-powered
language translation apps like Google Translate that break down the
language barrier. Such apps will take your message and instantly
translate it into the desired language, making communication
convenient and effective in diverse linguistic settings.
— 5. Autonomous Vehicles
Who could have imagined that cars would one day navigate
themselves autonomously? Thanks to AI, today, you have cars
32

that use AI to navigate roads safely. These cars are equipped
with advanced sensors, cameras, and powerful AI algorithms that
perceive their surroundings. Using this sensory data, they make
decisions and navigate autonomously. One of the examples of selfdriving
cars that use AI is Cruise vehicles. General Motors, under
the Cruise Automation subsidiary, developed Cruise vehicles that
use AI technology for perception, decision-making, and control
to drive autonomously in urban areas.
— 6. Entertainment and Content Personalization
Imagine receiving movie suggestions instantly that perfectly align
with your taste. Wouldn't that be fantastic? Streaming platforms
like Netflix and Amazon are leveraging AI to suggest movies that
align with your preferences. Here's how they suggest movies. The
platform uses AI and learn your interactions with the platform.
As you watch content, the AI algorithms track your interaction
and suggest movies that align with your taste. These platforms
introduce new and relevant content that is according to your
preferences.
— 7. Fashion And Style Recommendations
AI has made significant inroads in the fashion industry. Online
fashion retailers are leveraging AI-driven websites where the
store offers personalized fashion recommendations. The store
uses AI algorithms that analyze a shopper's past purchases and
user preferences to provide personalized recommendations. In
addition to this, the store also leverages Virtual try-on technologies
powered by AI that allow shoppers to get a feel of the costume
that they want to buy. This will certainly enhance the shopping
experience.
connections with local partners to shape services that elevate
life-events. The launch of our LIFE-inclusion plan introduces
collaborative workshops, utilizing our methods to develop
efficient and innovative solutions, unlocking new possibilities.
In recent years, AI has transformed recruitment, moving beyond
candidates’ identification to reshape interactions with them.
Delving into job creation, AI eliminates biases in descriptions
and interfaces, using natural language and keep them engaged
throughout the recruitment process.
delaware's prototype solution facilitates the organization of
connections between demand, candidates, offerings, and
applications by identifying and extracting competencies from
expected profiles. This AI-driven solution, tailored for ethical
handling, guarantees openness in this nuanced domain.
The advancements in the development of Artificial
Intelligence spread all over the world at a tremendous
speed and create an incredible hype increasing our
expectations. Although the education sector is the
one most influenced by humans, AI has gradually
begun to seep its roots into the education sector as
well. This transition is slowly but surely beginning to
help faculties increase productivity and concentrate
more on students than office or administration work.
In this article, we have compiled some of the ways Artificial
Intelligence is currently being used in education.
— Administrative Tasks Automated
to Aid Educators
Artificial Intelligence can help educators with non-educational tasks
like task-related duties like facilitating and automating personalized
messages to students, back-office tasks like grading paperwork,
arranging and facilitating parent and guardian interactions, routine
issue feedback facilitating, managing enrollment, courses, and
HR-related topics.
— Automated grading
Automated grading is a specialized AI based computer program
that simulates the behavior of a teacher to assign grades to
essays written in an educational setting. It can assess students’
knowledge, analyzing their answers, giving feedback and making
personalized training plans.
— Intermediate interval education
Revision of knowledge when you are just about to forget it is an
effective educational and technological solution. Polish researcher
Piotr Wozniak came up with SuperMemo, an educational solution
based on the spaced repetition memory strategy. This application
keeps track of what you are learning, and when you are doing it.
Using artificial intelligence, the application can find out when you
most likely have forgotten something and recommend you revise
it. It takes only a few revisions to make sure that the information
is now stored in your memory for many years.
— Feedback loops for teachers
Feedback, that is, students’ assessment of teachers, has a centurylong
history. Despite the shift from paper to online surveys, little
to no progress has been made in the feedback look area. Since
student evaluation of teaching is often the most valuable source
of information, it is obvious that it needs to be elevated.
Thanks to modern technologies, such as AI-driven chat robots,
machine learning and natural language processing, there are many
interesting opportunities for improving the quality of feedback.
A chatbot can collect opinions via a dialog interface just like a
real interviewer but with a small amount of required work from
a person. A conversation can be adapted in accordance with the
answers and personality of a student. A chatbot can even find out
the reasons for this or that opinion. You can also filter out personal
insults and obscene expressions, which are sometimes present
in teacher’s ratings.
— Virtual Facilitators
At the Georgia Institute of Technology, students were fascinated
by a new teacher’s assistant named Jill Watson, who quickly and
accurately answered students’ requests. However, the students did
not know that Ms. Watson’s true identity was actually a computer
equipped with an IBM-AI system. Such virtual facilitators can be
highly useful in the educational domain.
— Voice Assistants
Without even the direct involvement of the lecturer or the teacher,
a student can access extra learning material or assistance through
Voice Assistants. These reduce the printing costs of temporary
handbooks and also provide answers to very common questions
easily.
— Smart Content
Digitization of content like video lectures, conferences and
textbook guides can be made using Artificial Intelligence. Artificial
Intelligence helps create a rich learning experience by generating
both audio and video summaries as well as integral lesson plans.
way as to make sure that a student does not cheat? AI-powered
protecting systems come to rescue. Proctoring or Proctored Test
is a mechanism to ensure the authenticity of the test taker and
prevent him/her from cheating via a proctor present during the
duration of the test.
— Data Accumulation and Personalization
Using geolocation data and your previous search queries, AI is
already able to offer you the ideal cafe nearby or, for example, to
build a route to the nearest store of your favorite comic books. The
same technology can be applied when you study some grammatical
rule based on examples only from the sphere that interests you
with all educational content adapting to you.
— Personalized learning
Personalized learning refers to a variety of educational programs
in which the pace of learning and the instructional approach are
optimized for the needs of each learner. Using top AI technologies,
hyper-personalization techniques can be used to monitor students’
data thoroughly, including their habits, lesson plans, reminders
study guides, flash notes, frequency of revision, etc., making it
easy to generate personalized content. The experience is tailored
to learning preferences and the specific interests of different
learners. AI can adapt to the individual pace of learning and can
consistently offer more complex tasks to accelerate learning. Thus,
both fast and slow students can continue to study at their own pace.
— Proctoring
Distance learning, the locomotive of modern high-tech education,
implies running distance exams. How can we conduct it in such a
l’IT.
How AI Is Bringing
Change to the
E-Commerce Industry
By Michaël Renotte
Artificial intelligence holds immense potential to revolutionize the e-commerce
industry in numerous ways. Let's explore some of the applications that can make
business operations more efficient.
— 1. Chatbots To Answer Customer Query
Most renowned e-commerce businesses have chatbots on their
website to make the customer experience worthwhile. With chatbots
in place, once consumers visit an e-commerce website, they'll be
greeted with a pop-up question on the screen asking, "How can I
help?". They can then use this feature to ask relevant questions
and get immediate responses from the AI-powered system.
This tool can go a long way in ensuring your customers are cared for
24/7, even when there aren't live agents to answer any questions.
This can come in handy since a buyer's decision to purchase a
product or avail themselves of a service might be affected by the
time they wait for responses. Some prefer instant answers to their
queries to help them decide whether to order a good. AI-powered
chatbots engage with visitors, promptly addressing their queries
and providing instant responses.
— 2. Generation Of Product Descriptions
Product descriptions give customers more information about
the product and why they're worth buying. A well-written one is
critical to your business as it can act as a shop assistant for your
customers. It can confirm whether the features of the product
they intend to purchase match what they're looking for.
AI has made this task simple for business owners. Such a solution
enables e-commerce businesses to generate unique and dynamic
product descriptions automatically and quickly. This is less timeconsuming
and more efficient, unlike the conventional way of
writing a compelling product description, which can take a while.
Manually monitoring and assessing these data can be tedious -
not to mention prone to human errors - and that's where artificial
intelligence comes into play. Aside from collecting and arranging
records in an organized and structured format, AI can also make
them more insightful.
This makes it easier for business owners to understand how their
company is performing, allowing them to make the necessary
decisions for areas that need improvement. Such insight could
also give them an in-depth overview of customer purchasing
patterns, enabling them to create personalized recommendations
for each user.
— 4. Sales Forecasting
E-commerce businesses can predict and generate accurate
forecasting of future sales and market trends using AI. This is
possible through the use of data analysis, studying previous and
current e-commerce trends, and looking at historical data.
Such an analysis can equip business owners with the data they
need to boost their operations. It can also give them insights,
allowing them to maximize the allocation of resources to different
segments in the company to help it thrive and drive an increase
in sales and revenue volume.
— 3. Handling And Processing Of Business Data
Apart from the many products that e-commerce websites sell,
they also have to deal with and organize a lot of data daily. This
includes managing product database and information such as the
total sales per day, purchases, inventory level, goods returned,
customer information and purchasing patterns, the total number
of orders, the number of successful deliveries, etc.
44
Solve
TECHSENSE Magazine #06
— 5. After Sale Support
Apart from selling quality products and ensuring a smooth buying
process, artificial intelligence has enabled e-commerce businesses
to provide efficient after-sale services to their customers. Thus,
after a customer makes a purchase, they can access an automatic
form where they can write feedback and comments, ask for
directives on how to use a product, request for replacement if
they find that the item they bought has defects, and get goods
delivered to their doorstep.
The more the e-commerce business is concerned with the wellbeing
of its buyers, the more it can increase their loyalty, which
can translate to more sales. AI-powered systems can address
customer queries, resolve issues, and ensure a seamless postpurchase
experience.
— 6. Filter Forged And Fake Reviews
If an e-commerce website has many negative comments, this can
scare the customer away. There are occasions in which people
with ill motives forge these reviews to harm the company. And
since the customer may not know or deal with the seller directly
when purchasing a product online, there's a high likelihood that
they'll believe any comment on the reviews.
AI, fortunately, has a feature to help tackle or handle any fake
reviews that'll negatively influence the customer's decision to
buy. It can detect fake identifications and help e-commerce
businesses remove them from their websites. Ultimately, only
genuine and legit comments from real customers will remain on
the e-commerce site.
— 7. Personalized Marketing
AI's advanced algorithms can analyze a customer's behavior,
preferences and past purchases, enabling businesses to create
personalized marketing strategies. This includes tailored product
recommendations, targeted advertisements and customized
discounts. This data-driven approach enables e-commerce
businesses to create personalized marketing strategies, delivering
targeted and relevant content to customers.
— 8. Virtual Shopping Assistants
AI technology has paved the way for virtual shopping assistants
to guide customers through their online shopping journey. These
AI-powered assistants can provide product recommendations,
answer queries and even help checkout. They are available 24/7,
providing instant customer support and enhancing the shopping
experience. These assistants can significantly enhance the
customer journey and drive conversions.
— 9. Dynamic Pricing
AI can also be used to implement dynamic pricing strategies.
By analyzing various factors such as demand, competition and
customer behavior, AI can adjust the prices of products in real
time. This helps businesses maximize their profits and ensures
customers get the best possible deals.
— 10. Improved Logistics and
Supply Chain Management
AI can streamline logistics and supply chain management. By
leveraging predictive analytics and automation, e-commerce
businesses can predict demand, optimize inventory and even
automate delivery. This reduces operational costs and ensures timely
delivery of products, thereby increasing customer satisfaction.
— 11. Enhanced User Experience
AI can significantly enhance UX in e-commerce. From personalized
product recommendations to instant customer support, AI can make
online shopping more convenient and enjoyable for customers.
This not only helps businesses retain existing customers but also
attracts new ones.
Empower Your AI Experience:
| By Philipp Jäggi,
SAFELY & PRIVATELY Chief Technology Officer at EBRC |
HARNESSING THE POWER OF AI
Most organizations in Luxembourg are aware of the massive advantages of cloud computing, and they are increasingly
recognizing the business benefits of integrating AI, especially considering the cost-benefit ratio of AI in the cloud.
However, how can one fully harness the benefits of AI without compromising safety, security, and privacy, which are
particularly critical points in Luxembourg? Private AI may be a top-notch solution to address this pressing question.
Cloud deployments are inevitable for any organization
looking to expand its digital business in a cost-effective
and sustainable way. The privacy and security concerns
are no longer hindering the trend towards more cloud computing.
Opting for a hybrid cloud allows organizations to leverage the size
and scalability provided by the public cloud while addressing privacy,
security, and compliance concerns through the integration of a
private cloud component. Hybrid cloud and multicloud environments,
like those being developed through the Strategic Cloud Initiative
by EBRC, POST, Elgon and Digora, represent the trusted sovereign
path forward for any digital business.
— Balancing Privacy and Unlimited Power:
Why settle for one when you can have both?
When it comes to AI, an extra concern arises, particularly when
dealing with personal data. Organizations must exercise extra
caution to comply with the data privacy and security regulations and
address any potential concern surrounding this issue. AI has been
the talk of the town for quite a while now, and it is generally known
that powerful AI tools can unlock significant business opportunities.
However, for many organizations, accessing the size, scalability
and cost-effectiveness of the public cloud where these AI solutions
thrive, remains a challenge. The public cloud, unfortunately, does
precisely raise these concerns around privacy and security that
organizations seek to avoid.
So, how can you combine the power of the public cloud while
adhering to strict data privacy and security regulations, especially
for personal data? One potential solution is to embrace Private
AI. With Private AI, as promoted by providers like POST Group,
organizations can maintain the privacy and security of sensitive
data in a secure cloud environment. These data can still be used
for analysis and for training analytic models to derive new insights
and business opportunities even when such training requires
substantial computing power.
— Rescuing data privacy with synthetic
data solutions
Private AI can combine these two seemingly opposite business
goals by making use of synthetic data. These data are functionally
identical to real data, but all synthetic data are created by AI and
have no direct relation to private data. In other words: the data
are a reflection of real data. It works the same way as your image
in a mirror and therefore, cannot be traced back to any individual
personal data. Making use of these synthetic data, AI models can
create syntactic data that can be used to train a model in the public
cloud, with all the computing power needed but without having to
invest in buying or leasing massive private clouds to realize this
computational effort. Once an AI model is trained and validated, it can
seamlessly transition to working with real data in a live environment.
Smaller companies that cannot afford to train their own models will
eventually also benefit from such Private AI environments. Once AI
models have been developed in this privacy-friendly way and have
proven their worth, they can be set as base model to bring benefits
to a broader range of organizations. This democratization of AI,
facilitated by Private AI offerings, makes advanced AI capabilities
more accessible and affordable for organizations of all sizes and types.
— Data quality: unlocking the potential of AI
requires strategic preparation
Does this mean that AI has become a simple and straightforward
tool, ready to be used by all at any time? Sadly, it doesn’t. Before you
can reap the benefits of AI, you will first need to prepare your data
thoroughly. This means analyzing all data, classifying them, providing
them with metadata and more. Only after this preparatory work,
are your data ready for use in any AI model. You also need to ensure
that any future use of AI models will comply with the AI Act. This
means you have to test your AI-based application with other models
correctly, making sure that your application works with other models
as a cross-check. Applying AI to your data will never be child's play.
Fortunately, there are AI and data specialists available to help you
treat your data and AI models correctly. At the POST Group level,
for instance, we have an entire team of data and AI consultants at
your service, even when you are still in the early phase of figuring
out how AI could be of use with your specific available data.
— Maximize the opportunity, minimize the risk
AI is a huge opportunity. It can help you detect anomalies in huge
sets of structured and unstructured data. Generative AI can
automate numerous tasks, enhancing the cost-effectiveness of
your business. If you are interested in discovering the opportunities
AI has to offer without compromising your data’s safety, security
and privacy, delving into our Private AI environment or similar
offerings is undoubtedly worthwhile.
CYBERSECURITY
IMPLICATIONS OF AI
By Johann Alessandroni, Information Security Governance Team Leader, Excellium Services
The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily
lives, whether professional or personal, is increasingly
becoming a standard. Like any new technology,
cybersecurity issues are significant and must be
considered now to avoid inevitable overflows without
a framework or management of these
data processing models.
or false outputs. Biases can lead to unfair decisions, reinforcing
social inequities, while hallucinations may result in AI systems
producing inaccurate or deceptive information, impacting the
reliability and trustworthiness of the models. These risks highlight
the importance of rigorous testing, ethical considerations, and
continuous monitoring to mitigate potential negative consequences
stemming from AI model deployment.
— AI at the service of cybersecurity solutions…
and threat actors
AI models empower cybersecurity solutions to enhance both
proactive and reactive measures, efficiently processing large
datasets to identify abnormal behavior and detect malicious
activity. Automating monotonous security tasks, AI conserves
resources for core business functions. Its capacity to rapidly
and precisely handle extensive datasets accelerates threat
identification, outpacing human capabilities. This swift threat
detection minimizes response times to security incidents and
aids in reducing associated cybersecurity costs.
On the other hand, threat actors leverage AI to enhance their
cyber-attacks, employing sophisticated techniques for greater
efficiency and evasiveness. One example is the use of AI-driven
phishing attacks, where machine learning models analyze vast
datasets to craft highly personalized and convincing phishing
emails. This makes it challenging for traditional defenses to
detect such attacks.
Additionally, AI is employed in adversarial machine learning,
enabling attackers to manipulate models and evade detection by
creating malicious inputs that mimic legitimate data. These tactics
showcase the growing sophistication of threat actors who exploit
AI capabilities to refine their attack methodologies and increase
the potency of their malicious campaigns.
— Framing the use of AI in your organization
The primary risks associated with AI models include biases,
where algorithms may reflect and perpetuate existing societal
prejudices and hallucinations, wherein models generate misleading
The need to control and master the use of AI, the creation
of models and the underlying components is essential and is
reflected, in particular within the European Union, by the future
promulgation of legislation on AI (named “AI Act”) which aims
to promote the development and adoption, by both private and
public actors, of safe and trustworthy AI throughout the EU single
market. Furthermore, standards are also adapting, such as the
publication in December 2023 of the first ISO standard (ISO/IEC
42001) expressing the requirements for the implementation of an
AI management system.
Therefore, educating and raising awareness on the use of AI is
crucial to foster responsible and ethical AI practices. With proper
education, individuals and organizations can understand the potential
biases, risks and societal impacts associated with AI technologies.
Awareness helps users make informed decisions, encourages
ethical AI development and mitigates the inadvertent perpetuation
of biases. Moreover, an educated user base contributes to a more
inclusive and transparent AI landscape, fostering collaboration and
shared responsibility. In this way, education and awareness are key
elements in ensuring the responsible and beneficial integration
of AI technologies into our society.
The use of AI must be supervised at
the company level, which must support
its users in controlled use through the
integration of AI cybersecurity issues into
the awareness program.
AI IN TRAVEL AND
TRANSPORT
By Michaël Renotte
Intelligent technology has rapidly become integrated
into our daily lives in recent years. As technological
advancements continue to progress, new applications
of artificial intelligence are emerging in various
industries, including transportation. This has opened
up a new market for businesses and entrepreneurs
to develop innovative solutions aimed at enhancing
public transportation, making it more comfortable,
accessible and safe.
Intelligent transportation systems have the potential to
significantly improve the quality of life for people worldwide.
Similar systems are already being implemented across
multiple sectors.
In the realm of heavy goods transportation, a concept called truck
platooning has proven to be highly valuable for vehicle transport
businesses and the movement of large items. In this system, a
lead vehicle is driven by a human operator, while the drivers of
other trucks in the platoon operate passively, intervening only in
dangerous or difficult situations. Due to the interconnection of
the trucks through a network, they travel in formation, mirroring
the actions of the lead driver. So, if the lead vehicle comes to a
stop, all the following vehicles mimic this behavior.
AI-enabled route planning is another area where predictive analytics
can be utilized to benefit both businesses and individuals. Ridesharing
services are already using AI to optimize route planning
by analyzing real-world parameters. This approach is particularly
beneficial for businesses in the logistics and shipping industries,
as it enables them to anticipate road conditions, optimize vehicle
routes and build more efficient supply networks. Factors such as
congestion levels, road restrictions, traffic patterns and consumer
preferences are taken into account by AI algorithms to make
smarter decisions regarding route planning. This technology can
not only help reduce delivery costs, speed up delivery times, and
improve overall asset but also operational management for cargo
logistics companies.
In summary, the integration of AI in transportation is revolutionizing
the industry, offering solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce
congestion and improve the overall user experience. From truck
platooning to intelligent traffic management and AI-enabled route
planning, these applications contribute to the development of
smarter and more advanced transportation systems.
In terms of traffic management, cities around the world continue to
struggle with congested streets. Despite efforts such as expanding
highways and implementing alternative modes of transportation,
traffic congestion remains a challenge. However, AI advancements
in traffic management hold the promise of alleviating this issue. By
leveraging technologies like predictive analysis, big data analysis,
and visual search engines, intelligent traffic management systems,
like Alibaba's City Brain initiative in China, can track and monitor
road networks in real-time, ultimately reducing congestion.
Ride-sharing platforms such as Uber and OLA also take advantage
of AI to enhance user experiences. By utilizing AI technologies
like machine learning, these platforms optimize decision-making,
improve communication between riders and drivers, and predict
supply and demand. For instance, Uber's proprietary ML-as-a-service
platform, Michelangelo, can anticipate accidents, estimate arrival
times, and forecast any abnormal situations that may affect trips.
Depuis son lancement en 2023, MyLMEP a
considérablement évolué pour devenir un portail
propriétaire novateur. Bien au-delà de sa fonction
première d'effectuer des opérations financières,
MyLMEP se positionne désormais comme un véritable
centre d'interactions et de transparence. Pascal
Bughin, Directeur Transformation, IT & Digital, et
Eleonora Tasciotti, Head of Digital Transformation &
Sustainability, chez La Mondiale Europartner, nous
révèlent les coulisses de leur plateforme B to B to C
100 % digitale.
retours d'usage concrets.
