MORE THAN 300,000 SWIFTIES TO CONVERGE ON OLYMPIC PARK
READY FOR IT?
Accor Stadium staff are putting the final touches on the venue for the concerts this weekend.
ELLIE BUSBY
Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been
described as the biggest event to
come to Australia since the 2000
Olympics, and now it’s finally arrived at
Sydney Olympic Park – Swifties, are you
ready for it?
It’s been a long, cruel summer of waiting,
but fans can breathe a sigh of relief when
Swift takes to the stage at Accor Stadium
this Friday for the first of her four back-toback
concerts.
Nearly 80,000 fans will descend on the
local stadium each night for the soldout
concerts, adding up to a whopping
number of 320,000 Swifties heading to
Sydney Olympic Park across the four days.
Kerrie Mather, Venues NSW and Accor
Stadium CEO, said the four concerts will
have a huge impact on the New South
Wales economy.
“It’s just going to be amazing, everybody’s
excited about it, we’re excited
because of the economic impact, the jobs
that will actually come from that many
events,” she said.
“We’ll have nearly 80,000 people every
night here for four nights, so 320,000
people actually over the time of the
concerts.
“35 per cent of the attendees will be
coming from interstate and internationally,
that will obviously drive significant
expenditure for New South Wales, in fact
the economic impact of these four major
concerts will be nearly $80 million.”
But welcoming the world’s biggest pop
star to our shores also comes with months
of hard work and preparation – something
Venues NSW Group General Manager,
Event Operations, Ben Raggatt
knows all too well.
“[There’s] plenty of work to be done, we’re
expecting 60-odd trucks to arrive as part
of Taylor Swift’s entourage,” he added.
“Nearly 1000 staff are responsible for the
delivery of the stage to that point.
“Even with the concert acts of Ed
[Sheeran] and Harry Styles earlier in the
year, this is significantly bigger than what
we’ve seen from both those artists.”
From friendship bracelets to lavender-themed
drinks, Accor Stadium is
excited to bring fans’ wildest dreams to
life, promising plenty of treats will be
available at the venue.
“We’re super excited to see Taylor in the
building so we’ve curated a great offering,
in the northern end of the building we’ve
actually got a Lavender Lane blowout
so a little bit of extra food and beverage
that’s not on offer day-to-day here
at Accor,” Gema Group Chief Operating
Officer, Dwane Goodman said.
“This event in terms of the catering
perspective will be essentially four grand
finals one after another.
The concerts will also be a huge boon
to surrounding hotels, with many having
already switched out its elevator music in
favour of Swift’s tunes.
“This is a true love story for hotels
right across the city, this is going to be
the biggest event for our hotels since the
Sydney Olympics in 2000,” Accor Chief
Operating Officer, Adrian Williams said.
“Events like this at Accor Stadium
support jobs and investment in hotels
right across the city.”
Only three sleeps to go!
Cumberland Emergency Accommodation
Parramatta Women’s Shelter in collaboration with Evolve
Housing Limited and Women’s Community Shelters have
opened its first Core & Cluster service located in the
Cumberland Local Government Area. The
Shelter provides a crucial service for women
with or without dependent children, who
are experiencing homelessness due to
domestic and family violence. The Core and
Cluster model provides a safe space for
women to rebuild and heal in a centralised
location with onsite access to caseworkers
and community support services. It’s a
great milestone moment for Western
Sydney to have another women’s refuge in
Cumberland. If you or someone you know
Happy Lunar New Year
Council recently celebrated the Year of the Dragon as part of its Lunar New
Year festivities. Held over three days in Lidcombe, Auburn and Berala, the
community was treated to a bustling program complete with comedy shows,
K-pop, food, arts, dancing, community workshops and karaoke. It was great to
see thousands of people come together to take part in a cultural event that has
a very long history in Cumberland and is symbolic to many in our community.
The event also provided a great opportunity for the community to learn and
experience Chinese, South-Eastern and Eastern Asian culture.
Did you know that eligible motorists in New South Wales can claim a
40% rebate for money spent on tolls in the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 financial
year? As part of the scheme, motorists who have spent more than $375 on
tolls during this financial year will be able to claim a 40% rebate of up to
$750. Payments to eligible customers will be backdated to July 1, 2022.
This decision comes as part of the NSW Government’s commitment to
LOCAL NEWS
Saturdays out for post office Council spot to stay vacant
ELLIE BUSBY
Angry residents are
sending a message
to Australia Post
after it was revealed its
Silverwater branch will no
longer operate on Saturdays.
Australia Post has
confirmed the busy post
office at the Silverwater
Business Centre will no
longer be open for business
on Saturdays from February
24 onwards.
The announcement has
caused frustration among
residents, with a petition
being started online calling
on Parramatta Council to
advocate for the Silverwater
post office to remain open
on Saturdays.
“Australia Post has recently
posted a sign at the Silverwater
Business Hub advising
that they will be stopping the
collection hours on Saturdays
from 24th February,
2024,” the petition said.
“Australia Post provides a
vital service for our community
and this location is
constantly busy on Saturdays,
showing the need for
this service to continue.”
The petition received the
support of City of Parramatta
A petition has been started against Australia Post.
Council at the latest meeting,
with Councillor Patricia
Prociv saying people in
the local area “need this
service”.
“For the people in Olympic
Park, Wentworth Point and
Newington, this is the only
access they have to a post
office,” Prociv said.
“They rely on the post office
at Silverwater to collect their
parcels on Saturdays, the
queues at Australia Post on
Saturdays are over an hour,
sometimes an hour-and-ahalf
long.”
At the time this story was
written, just under 100
people had signed the petition.
A spokesperson for
Australia Post told Parra
News the Silverwater
Business Centre will cease
operating a Saturday parcel
collection service from
February 24, following a
review of the level of customers
using the service.
“The outlet offers free
24/7 parcel lockers where
customers can collect
parcels at any time at their
convenience or they can
continue to collect parcels
on weekdays during operating
hours,” the spokesperson
added.
The Silverwater branch will
continue to operate Monday
to Friday, from 9am to
5pm. The news comes after
Australia Post shut down its
Westfield Parramatta office
last year.
Parramatta Council has acknowledged former Councillor Donna Davis.
ELLIE BUSBY
Parramatta Council has acknowledged
former Councillor Donna Davis’
contribution to the local community
following her resignation, confirming her
position won’t be filled before the Local
Government Election.
Davis, who served on Council since 2017
under Labor as both a Councillor and Lord
Mayor, announced she would be stepping
down from the role earlier this year to focus
solely on her position as State Member for
Parramatta.
Speaking at the latest Council Meeting,
Independent Councillor Kellie Darley
thanked Davis for her support and advocacy.
“Donna was actually the first Councillor I
met and interacted with before I was a councillor
advocating for improved services for
families, and she was always the Councillor
that responded,” she said.
“So for me, Donna really set the standard
in terms of community engagement, she was
very active in the local community, representing
residents, being out there.”
Fellow Epping Ward and Labor Councillor
Cameron Maclean said he was grateful Davis
took him “under her wing.”
“[Davis] has been the best possible mentor
one could have,” he added.
“Politics is so prone to cynicism and accusations
of people not listening and Donna
has always made herself available to the
community.”
During the meeting, Council also voted to
dispense with the need to conduct a by-election
to replace Davis, meaning the Chamber
will be down a Councillor until the Local
Government Election takes place seven
months from now in September.
Early Federal Election is inevitable
The drums are getting louder.
Talk to anyone with their ear to the ground
in politics and the words ‘early election’ get a
run.
There’s plenty of talk that Anthony Albanese
could send us to the polls this year – perhaps
a full 12 months before he’d be required to in
September 2025.
The public’s recent support for his changes
to the stage three tax cuts have helped Albanese
regain some of his mojo after the failed
Voice referendum last year.
A pros and cons list for an early election
would surely have Labor leaning towards this
year, potentially in October or early November.
Labor would feel they’d have the Coalition’s
measure at the moment but there’s a legitimate
fear that with another 12 months under
his belt, Peter Dutton could make a contest
out of an election.
Go early and you force Dutton into campaign
mode well before he’d be seen as ready.
Watch this space.
We must not forget older Aussies
Several months ago, I attended the 10th
birthday party of the Carmen Drive Pharmacy
in Carlingford. Led by owners Susan and
Yvonne, they are a salt-of-the-earth business,
well-loved in the community. As the event
was held in the middle of a weekday, those in
attendance were mainly senior citizens from
the surrounding area.
Talk turned to the current housing debate –
and what has long been a contentious proposal
to redevelop the former Royal Institute for
Deaf and Blind Children site opposite North
Rocks Shopping Centre. Scaled-back plans include
seniors’ units of up to five storeys.
A gentleman who was present – I seem to remember
he was from a nearby Rotary – said to
me: “I used to be opposed. But I guess we’re
all getting older and this is something we have
to think about now”.
The question of how we house and care for
Australia’s aging population is one of the great
issues of the 21st century. It should be top of
the in-tray for every level of government, just
as it weighs heavily (and sometimes painfully)
in the minds of so many families.
Everyone’s circumstances are different. For
some, the desire for autonomy and physical
space in their sunset years is profound. Others
prefer the range of socialisation opportunities
and activities – such as games, gardening,
book clubs and movie nights – as well as attentive
supervision, that come from communal
retirement living.
For those unable or unwilling to live independently
or with family, the range of options
Index
News...........................................................1-10
Entertainment.................................11-20
Horoscopes..............................................21
include in-home care (preferred by most Australians)
where a dedicated provider comes in
to deliver services and help around the house.
Some people will opt for residential care in
a nursing home or aged care facility. Others
choose supported living arrangements within
retirement villages.
So many of my friends and work colleagues
are reaching the stage where they are confronting
this decision for their own parents,
with questions such as “Are we doing the
right thing?” and “Will Mum or Dad be happy
there?” increasingly commonplace.
Given this, it is a major surprise to me that
the role of older Australians is being overlooked
in the current housing debate. I’ve previously
written that I support the broad thrust
of the Minns government’s proposals to address
the housing crisis. However, even as an
ALP member, a key bugbear is that the rhetoric
in support of change is disproportionately
about giving young people a ladder onto the
housing market.
While this is admittedly an important goal,
it is equally vital to provide housing choice for
older Australians to remain within their local
community as they age.
After my father died and my sisters and I
“flew the coop”, my mother sold our two-storey
home in West Pennant Hills as she could
no longer look after the swimming pool and
garden. And she moved into an apartment
closer to the city.
However, many people might seek options in
their local area. The term “downsizing” feels
Business Directory....................22-23
Sport..............................................................24
like an almost pejorative way to describe this.
It is more “rightsizing” into age-appropriate
housing, perhaps near the kids and grandkids,
and close to all the shops, services, amenities
and social networks such as church to which
people have devoted their lives.
A report from the Retirement Living Council
estimated that more than 473,000 NSW retirees
aged over 75 are living in oversized homes
with at least one vacant bedroom. Further incentives
should certainly be examined to give
people financial security that they can shift to
different housing without – for example – sacrificing
all or part of their pension.
Not everyone will make this choice. But when
an older Australian vacates a large home, that
creates an opportunity for a younger family,
too. And this method of reducing the housing
supply gap should be in the discussion.
The question now is shifting to what types of
seniors’ developments can achieve community
consent. Increasingly, we see proposals
for vertical housing – invariably accompanied
by community opposition. The planned development
at Oatlands Golf Course is a good
example. However, even this pales in comparison
to models that involve older Australians
essentially living in skyscrapers.
Fundamental planning principles remain
important. Seniors’ housing should be built in
a form consistent with the area. Local streets
and neighbourhood centres must be able to
support them. But so is ensuring that the people
who built this country enjoy dignity in later
life.
Transforming railway line
First look at Pippita Rail Trail, with locals encouraged to have their say on project
ELLIE BUSBY
Cumberland Council has revealed the
first look at the proposed Pippita Rail
Trail, a 2.4 kilometre active transport
link that will “transform” the former Abattoir
Branch railway line.
The project aims to create an improved and
accessible walking and cycling link between
Lidcombe Train Station and 430 hectares of
recreational facilities at Sydney Olympic Park.
Locals are being encouraged to have
their say on the Pippita Rail Trail, which is
anticipated to be used by more than 20,000
Lidcombe residents once complete.
Member of EcoTransit and long-time advocate
of Pippita Rail Trail Roydon Ng said the
design is a step in the right direction, but
urged the NSW Government not to rule out
rebuilding the Pippita Railway Station in the
future.
“Safe and easily accessible active transport
is important for community connections
and reducing car dependency,” he told Parra
News.
“I call on NSW Government to contribute to
funding the construction of Pippita Rail Trail
and not preclude future rebuilding of Pippita
Railway Station.
“Pippita Rail Trail should be integrated with
the wider active transport network into western
Sydney and the inner west to encourage
An artist’s impression of the proposed Pippita Rail Trail.
cycling as a viable local alternative to motor
vehicles”
Ng added that he would also like to see more
of an acknowledgement of the history of the
Pippita Station and Abattoir Branch railway
line incorporated in the design of the trail.
The Abattoir Branch railway line once
serviced the State Abattoirs, State Brick Works
and Homebush Saleyards, with stations
including Pippita, Metropolitan Meat Platforms,
Saleyards, Abattoirs and Brickworks.
Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said the
Pippita Rail Trail reflects Council’s commitment
to creating an active, vibrant and inclusive
community.
“As part of Council’s long term strategic vision
for Cumberland, the Pippita Rail Trail will offer
a unique opportunity for cycling or walking
directly from Lidcombe to Sydney Olympic
Park, allowing residents and visitors to explore
our outdoor spaces, socialise and discover our
local history along the way,” she said.
The project has received $770,000 in funding
as part of Transport for NSW’s Get NSW Active
program.
NSW Transport Minister Jo Haylen said the
Pippita Rail Trail will become a convenient
walking and cycling link between Lidcombe
Train Station and the Sydney Olympic Park
precinct.
“The new 2.4 kilometre path will give people
a new way to move between home and work,
public transport hubs, food and dining
precincts, stadiums and public spaces,” she
added.
“This transformation will create a destination
that locals can use every day, and people
from all over Sydney can visit and enjoy, while
recognising the rich history of the area’s
former railway line.”
Community consultation is open until
Sunday, March 10.
LOCAL NEWS
Childcare centre makes
history in the west
ELLIE BUSBY
In a greater western Sydney
first, a new North Rocks childcare
centre will be offering its
lessons in multiple languages.
Officially opening its doors this
Friday (February 23), multi-lingual
childcare centre Angsana
will provide children with interactive
lessons delivered in English,
Mandarin and Spanish.
For locals like North Rocks
resident Alexandra Rayhanabad,
it means her two-year-old son,
Kingston Rayhanabad, has the
chance to be exposed to other
languages from a young age.
“The biggest plus to it is learning
any kind of language, in any form,
is so good for our little one and
it definitely improves cognitive
function overall,” Rayhanabad
told Parra News.
“I think it will help [Kingston]
become a better communicator
and maybe enrich a deeper
respect for diversity, which is
really important in the area that
we live in.”
As more and more people from
different backgrounds continue
to choose western Sydney as their
home, Rayhanabad is hoping
Angsana will help pave the way for
additional multi-lingual childcare
centres to open in the local area.
“Whether it be centres like
Angsana that are completely
multi-lingual or centres that just
have multi-lingual programs on
offer, I think it’s amazing if that
were to become a bit more widespread,”
she said.
Located at 49 North Rocks Road,
the $20 million childcare centre
took seven years to build, spans
2,200 square metres and features
both indoor and outdoor play
spaces.
Lessons in the three languages
will all be delivered by native
speakers through activities like
play, gardening and cooking,
speech and drama, physical
education, music and numeracy.
Centre Director, Yolanda Rubatto
Ivanov, said teaching children
multiple languages an early age
increases cognitive abilities and
fosters cultural understanding.
“It also positively influences
brain development, making them
more adaptable and proficient in
communication,” she added.
“Additionally, multilingualism
has been linked to better academic
performance and increased career
opportunities later in life.”
Co-Founder Gan Shen-Lene
said Angsana is focused on
multilingualism because children
today need to know more
than one language to survive in
an “increasingly globalised society.”
“Just looking around us here
in greater Sydney, there are at
least five different communities
speaking one language other than
English,” she added.
“By doing so, we hope to encourage
our children to easily connect
with others, not only here but also
around the world.
“We know we are not for
everyone, however, parents who
want to grow globally aware and
open-minded children will see
the advantages that our centre can
offer to their children.”
Angsana is open Monday to
Friday from 7.00am to 6.00 pm and
caters for 99 children, aged from
six weeks to six years.
Angsana will provide interactive lessons in three different languages.
ENTERTAINMENT
MOVIES, TELEVISION, MUSIC AND MORE – PARRAMATTA’S LEADING ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE
LESSONS IN LOVE
AT THE RIVERSIDE
CASSIDY PEARCE
Complex and beautiful all at once,
love is a multifaceted emotion
with endless descriptions in English
alone.
But, with both sides of his family
being Greek, poet and rapper Luka Lesson
knew that there were many more words for
love, as many of them continue to be used in
the language today.
It’s for this reason that when he was commissioned
to make a solo theatre show before
the pandemic, the concept of ‘Agapi & Other
Kinds of Love’ came to mind.
Initially, this show was based on the idea of
a book with chapters of poems about different
types of love. However, it grew into a more
narrative form, taking audiences on a journey
through these ancient Greek types of love
through the eyes of ancient lovers Socrates
and Diotima and their modern counterparts
Pavlos and Sophia, after reading Plato’s The
Symposium.
“There’s a speech in Plato’s Symposium
where Socrates says that he learned everything
he knows about love from a woman named
Diotima, and she’s pretty much lost to us, we
don’t know much about her, but I thought it
was crazy that the greatest philosopher of all
time arguably was giving all the kudos to a
female philosopher or sage that would teach
him everything he knows about love,” he said.
“I decided to make her a full character, and
to discuss the ladder of love that they discuss
in The Symposium and combine that with the
ancient Greek types of love.”
But, as with many things, the pandemic
caused a shift in production for Lesson,
with both original commissioning parties no
longer able to bring the show to life.
However, this only made him more excited
to get it done – no matter what the form.
“I was so in love with it that I ended up finishing
it myself, and roping in my friend James
Humberstone who composed all the music for
it,” he said.
“Parallel to finishing the show, I was also
turning it into a verse novel, so we ended up
publishing the verse novel first, and now we’re
in the throes of the tour of the show.
“It was a funny process, because both things
were developing at the same time, as well as
the music. Eventually, it will be a verse novel,
and a show, and an album. It’s an interesting
way to play with my creativity, to see how
it comes out the other end in three different
forms.”
Though he admits it was tricky to create a
show which is part rap, part poetry, and part
history lesson, Lesson said ‘Agapi & Other
Kinds of Love’ has ended up as a prime example
of edutainment, hoping that audience
members will have learn plenty.
“My desire with this show is just to get people
to have a wider vocabulary of love,” he said.
“We need it, and we need it in these times
more than ever, and if they leave the show with
a few more words to talk about the nuances of
love and discuss that with their friends and
families, then I think my job will be done.”
‘Agapi & Other Kinds of Love’ will be at
Riverside Theatres on Thursday, February
29 and Friday, March 1 at 7pm. Visit riversideparramatta.com.au.
COUNTRY
CORNER
Brand’s emotional new
track
Celebrated Australian
country star Adam Brand
(pictured) has released
a new single, ‘Sleepless
Nights’.
Penned early in 2023, the
song resonated with Brand
deeply in light of the devastating
event with the family
home burning down just
weeks before Christmas last
year.
Thankfully with no one
injured, this song took on
new meaning and is a reflection
of Brand’s thoughts on
his role in his family.
“As a father I believe my job
is to protect my family with
every fibre of my being and
there is nothing I wouldn’t
do for my children,” Brand
said.
“As parents we all know
that the weight of that
responsibility sometimes
feels overwhelming. One
day my baby girls will have
their own family and will
experience sleepless nights
as they pace the floor trying
to figure out life’s many challenges…
but not tonight.”
The song is available on all
the usual streaming services
including Spotify and Apple
Music.
Fatherhood message in
new song
Former ‘American Idol’
winner Scotty McCreery has
released a brand new song
focused on becoming a Dad.
“Becoming a father is
the greatest thing that’s
happened to me,” he said.
“Raising Avery as he grows
and watching my wife Gabi
be a rock star as his mum has
been the joy of my life these
last 15 months. I knew I
wanted to write a song about
Avery. I even photographed
the room number on the
hospital door so I could put
that into the lyrics.”
‘Love Like This’ is available
now on all the usual streaming
services.
Country loses a cowboy
There’s been plenty of tributes
for US country star Toby
Keith, who tragically passed
away at just 62 after a battle
with cancer.
“Toby Keith passed peacefully
last night ... surrounded
by his family,” a statement
shared to his website read.
“He fought his fight with
grace and courage. Please
respect the privacy of his
family at this time.”
Keith had only weeks
earlier appeared on national
breakfast radio show ‘The
Bobby Bones Show’ to
discuss his health and
music, so his passing so
soon after that interview
was a major shock.
NORTH ROCKS ROAD
PARTIAL LANE CLOSURES
AND NIGHT WORKS
27 February to 12 March 2024
From 27 February, North Rocks Road will be reduced to one lane in each
direction to allow for investigation works to begin on Hunts Creek Bridge.
This work is in preparation for a bridge replacement program expected to
start in May 2024.
For two weeks, traffic controllers will be in place from 8pm each evening
Monday to Saturday, diverting traffic around investigations taking place on
the road and footpath along Hunts Creek Bridge. On Thursday, Friday and
Saturday, altered road conditions will begin at 9pm. These timeframes are
subject to inclement weather.
All efforts will be made to complete noise intensive activities earlier in the
evening. However, there will be times where noisy activities such as the use
of a vacuum truck will occur late into the evening /early morning.
North Rocks Road will be reinstated by 5am allowing motorists and
pedestrians to use the road as normal.
At the movies...
REVIEW
Peppa’s Cinema Party

1 hour, 5 minutes
If you’re the parent or guardian
of a young child, you likely haven't
been able to avoid ‘Peppa Pig’
beaming into your lounge room
over the years.
And like ‘Bluey’, which came
much later, the likeable little pig
and her family appeal to the adults
in the room too – contributing to its
worldwide success.
‘Peppa’s Cinema Party’ is the latest
instalment in the franchise, a
cinematic release of all new content
– a win for the parents who’ve
likely seen every episode on multiple
occasions already.
With a few special guests along
the way (including Katy Perry as
Ms Leopard and Orlando Bloom as
Mr Racoon), a through-line of Mr
Bull and Mrs Cow’s wedding provides
the platform for 10 new episodes,
along with interactive shorts
where the animated and real world
combines.
From my perspective, a great
hour of entertainment – but not
enough Daddy Pig humour. We
needed more of him over-estimating
his ability ahead of disastrous
and hilarious results.
But more importantly, from the
two-year-old who was in tow with
me, a standing ovation. A toddler
whose attention didn't leave the
screen for more than an hour pretty
much confirms this is a winner.
Nathan Taylor
TV NEWS
Ê ‘The Voice’ is going to look a whole lot
different this year, with three new coaches
joining Guy Sebastian on the singing contest.
International singer and songwriter LeAnn
Rimes, Queen frontman Adam Lambert, and
Australian singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke
will hopefully breathe new life into
the format, that has fallen a little bit behind
the game since ‘Australian Idol’ returned last
year. Filming gets underway in Sydney this
month, with the series set to go to air later
this year.
Ê New episodes of ‘The 1% Club’ will return
to Channel Seven on Wednesday, February 21
at 7.30pm. If you’ve never seen it, it’s worth
the watch and comedian Jim Jefferies does a
pretty good job as host / quizmaster.
Ê Season 24 of ‘Midsomer Murders’
premiered on the ABC last Friday night and
continues weekly. The new season comes
with four new murder mystery episodes.
Ê Taylor Swift will land in Sydney next
week but if you missed out on tickets or
just want to see her incredible show again,
MARCH 15
Disney+ will be showing her latest concert in
its entirety from next month. ‘Taylor Swift:
The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’ will hit
Disney+ on Friday, March 15 and will feature
the entire concert as well the song ‘Cardigan’
and four additional acoustic songs.
TAYLOR SWIFT: THE ERAS TOUR, DISNEY+
Ê Hit ABC series ‘Bay of Fires’ has been
renewed for a second season. Marta Dusseldorp
returns as Stella Heikkinen, the single
mother of two, forced into witness protection
and relocated to Mystery Bay – a remote
Tasmanian town filled with suspicious,
criminally inclined individuals. Season two
will air in 2025.
MARCH 29
PARAMOUNT+
A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW
Ê New limited series ‘A Gentleman in
Moscow’, starring Ewan McGregor, will drop
of Paramount+ on Friday, March 29. An
adaptation of Amor Towles’ internationally
best-selling novel, the series follows Count
Alexander Rostov (McGregor), who, in the
aftermath of the Russian Revolution, finds
that his gilded past places him on the wrong
side of history. This show is getting a lot of
buzz, so if you’re into your history you may
be interested in this.
Ê SKY News anchor Peter Stefanovic will
present ‘MH370: Ten Years On’ on Tuesday,
February 20, as the 10th anniversary of arguably
the greatest mystery in aviation history
approaches. This follows from previous
documentaries that includes ‘MH370: The
Final Search’ and ‘MH370: The Untold Story’
which remains SKY News’ highest rated documentary.
In this new one-hour documentary,
Stefanovic speaks with aviation experts,
oceanographers, and brave sailors who took
on the quest of finding MH370. He also meets
family members of victims, with their own
appeal to our government.
How to beat Str8ts –
Like Sudoku, no single number can
repeat in any row or column. But...
rows and columns are divided by black
squares into compartments. These
need to be filled in with numbers that
complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set
of numbers with no gaps but can be in
any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black
cells remove that number as an option
in that row and column, and are not part
of any straight. Glance at the solution to
see how ‘straights’ are formed.
How to beat Str8ts –
Like Sudoku, no single number can
repeat in any row or column. But...
rows and columns are divided by black
squares into compartments. These
need to be filled in with numbers that
complete a ‘straight’. A straight is a set
of numbers with no gaps but can be in
any order, eg [4,2,3,5]. Clues in black
cells remove that number as an option
in that row and column, and are not part
of any straight. Glance at the solution to
see how ‘straights’ are formed.
Saturday’s Full Moon stimulates your
sexuality and secrets zone, so expect
a dramatic week full of passion and/
or intrigue. Also, with no less than five
planets transiting through your sign (the
Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Pluto) it’s
time to be creative, communicative, bold
and brave! Draw inspiration from birthday
great, writer Anais Nin (who had Sun
in Pisces and Mercury in Aquarius), “Life
shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s
courage.”
Compassionate Venus links up with
dynamic Mars in your humanitarian
zone, so be proactive about helping
others. Can you do some volunteer work,
start a fundraiser, or organise a working
bee? Plus – with the Sun, Mercury, Saturn
and Neptune in Pisces – you’ll feel like
daydreaming, visualising and creating
even more than usual as you perform,
paint, draw, dance, write, sing or play
music. The Full Moon’s in earthy Virgo,
so make your dreams a reality!
Romance, friendship and fun are highlighted
on Thursday. With Saturday’s
Full Moon in your daily routine zone, it’s
time to prioritise, organise and stabilise,
but avoid being too impulsive about
a complicated issue involving money,
values or possessions. The stars encourage
you to dream ambitious dreams for
the future. Be inspired by pioneering
feminist Gloria Steinem, “Without leaps
of imagination, or dreaming, we lose the
excitement of possibilities.”
Bulls can blunder around being
(unintentionally) insensitive. This week
you need to be extra responsive to the
needs of children, teenagers and close
friends, otherwise Saturday’s Full Moon
could trigger a misunderstanding or an
emotional drama. With Venus transiting
through your career zone, professional
matters are set to improve – as long as
you’re not too stubborn. The more flexible
and understanding you are, the more
quickly things will improve.
This week the Full Moon (in earthy
Virgo) falls in your home zone, so get
your house in order and tackle domestic
chores with extra Gemini gusto. But,
if you spread gossip or jump to hasty
conclusions, you could end up in hot
water. And avoid the temptation to take
short cuts. A slap-dash attitude will only
mean you have to do everything twice.
With a more methodical and practical
approach, you can accomplish tasks and
still have plenty of time to play.
With Saturday’s Full Moon stimulating
your conversation and social media
zone, communicating with other people
will be turbo-charged (in person and
online) and a close partnership should
prosper. The planets also bring good
fortune in the form of an international
friend, a wise mentor, an educational
milestone, a financial boost, or a travel
opportunity. So it’s time to crawl out of
your Crab cave and get moving, mixing
and mingling ASAP!
Regal Lions love to live in the lap of
luxury! Saturday’s Full Moon activates
your finance zones and encourages
your tendency to be hasty with cash and
careless with credit. But penny-pinching
Saturn is visiting one of your money
zones, so clever Cats will resist the
temptation to blow the budget with an
impulsive, extravagant spending spree.
Big binge buys now will just lead to major
money headaches later on. So slow down,
plan carefully and shop prudently.
Partnerships – of the romantic, platonic
and business variety – are highlighted
this week, as the planets activate your
relationship zone. Saturday’s Full Moon
lights up your sign, so self-belief is the
key to Virgo success and satisfaction.
Don’t let annoying disruptions and
minor matters rattle you! Keep going on
your chosen path, with confidence and
determination. Be inspired by birthday
great, writer Anais Nin, “Good things
happen to those who hustle.”
The Full Moon illuminates your solitude
zone and Venus is in your creativity
zone, so spend some quality time on your
own and let your imagination percolate.
Activities like reading, writing, painting,
drawing, dancing, playing music and
meditating are favoured. And don’t
forget to dream! Writer (and birthday
great) Anais Nin wrote, “Throw your
dreams into space like a kite, and you do
not know what it will bring back, a new
life, a new friend, a new love.”
SCORPIO
SAGITTARIUS
NOVEMBER 23 TO DECEMBER 21
CAPRICORN
DECEMBER 22 TO JANUARY 20
Tuesday’s Venus/Mars hook-up highlights
romance, flirtation, cooperation,
entertainment and good times. So loosen
up, let your Scorpio hair down, and have
some fun! Then Saturday’s Full Moon
fires up your friendship zones, so it’s
also time to review and renew your peer
group. Be inspired by birthday great,
writer Anais Nin, “Each friend represents
a world in us, a world not born until they
arrive, and it is only by this meeting that
a new world is born.”
When it comes to work projects and
professional prospects, this week’s Full
Moon is in efficient, no-nonsense Virgo.
So people don’t care how funny, friendly
and fabulous you are – they just want to
know you can do your job promptly and
competently. With the Sun, Mercury,
Saturn and Neptune transiting through
your family zone, don’t neglect the needs
of your home and loved ones. Accept
your domestic responsibilities with a
sunny Sagittarian smile!
This week there’s a Full Moon in your
adventure/aspirations zone, and the
Venus/Mars conjunction boosts confidence
and self-esteem. So it’s a good time
to grab the Goat by the horns and initiate
some long overdue changes – especially
involving travel, education, communication
and community connections.
Be inspired by fellow Capricorn, writer
Simone de Beauvoir, “Change your life
today. Don’t gamble on the future, act
now, without delay.”
