charity realises
dream of owning
its own building
THE BODIE HODGES Foundation was set up in
2013 by Donna and Nick Hodges following the
death of their son Bodie.
The charity is based in Leicester and supports families
following the death of a child by offering a range of
services. The charity celebrated its 10th year and now
offers significant bereavement counselling services to
children and their families.

Their long-term business plan was to buy a building
that could become a child bereavement community and
offer counselling and support groups to families following
the death of a child across Leicester, Leicestershire, and
Rutland. In 2021 an investor had agreed to purchase a
building to enable the charity to expand. When this fell
through Donna, Nick and the Board of Trustees had to
decide to accept this devasting news or to fight and launch
a capital appeal to buy the building as a charity.
Bodie’s House is an 11-room building with 6 therapy
spaces, along with offices and meeting space for the
charity. It is a safe place for families to come and talk
about grief and their child or sibling. A place where they
know that they will be listened to and supported.
Donna, CEO says “When we are faced with challenges,
we all have choices of how we can respond and as
a charity we decided that Bodie’s House, located on
Braunstone Lane was exactly the right place to grow our
bereavement community.
“We were supported by the landlord who gave us two
years to raise £450,000. This was a huge risk for us as we
are a small charity with only 4 members of staff when we
launched the appeal.
