FROM THE
MANAGER
IAN
EVATT
I’VE SAID ALL
ALONG THAT
NOTHING WILL
COME EASY
THIS SEASON
AND WE WILL
HAVE TO WORK
HARD FOR
EVERYTHING
WE GET.
4 | The Wanderer

The Wanderer | 5
And that has certainly been the case in the last
few games. Last time we were here we showed
great spirit and resolve after a tricky few days
of injuries and the turbulence that the end of
the January transfer window can bring to come
back against an in-form Barnsley team and get
a point.
We then had the freakish conditions at Cambridge
which denied us a chance to gather some more
momentum and then on Saturday at Northampton
we again had so many things thrown at us.
Some of it was self-inflicted and again conceding
an early goal didn’t help our cause and is
something we have to keep working hard at to try
and eradicate.
We didn’t start the game particularly well but we
didn’t agree with the red card shown to George
Thomason and that, of course, makes life harder
still when you have to play for more than an hour
with 10 men.
We felt the challenge didn’t merit a red card and
weren’t happy with some of the other things that
went on around it. I then spoke to the referee
at half-time but did not use foul and abusive
language and thought when I went to our dressing
room to speak to the players the matter was
closed.
I was then amazed to be told I had also been sent
off and, again, didn’t think that was justified. I will
be disappointed if I now have to be absent from
the dug-out for a future game but in, the short
term, it was about re-organising the team and
sending them out with a job to do.
We made a couple of changes in an effort to take
the game to Northampton and I was delighted with
the response of the players and their spirit and
determination to get back into the game.
We caused a decent team real
problems with our movement of
the ball, energy and intensity and,
in the end, I felt a point was the
least we deserved. I thought we
might even get a winner after
Carlos had scored but, in the
circumstances, a draw was
another positive result for us and
keeps us edging forward.
Things haven’t gone our way in
recent weeks, but we have made sure
we haven’t finishing on the losing side
very often. One league defeat since mid-
December and three since early October shows
the resilience we have built up as a team and a
squad and means we remain very well placed in
the table and with our destiny in our own hands.
We know we need to start turning one point into
three more often again as the margin for error
reduces. But I have complete faith in the players
– and staff – to do that more often than not over
the run-in.
Of course, it doesn’t help when you have key men
missing and losing Nathan Baxter alongside Rico
was another blow. But we back those coming in
to step up and do the job, which is why we have
the squad we have. And when players, like Rico,
come back it will make us even stronger and more
competitive.
We have developed a strong squad and I was
delighted to see Carlos get his first league goal for
us at Northampton. Injuries and his absence on
international duty have limited his opportunities so
far but I have always said he can be a big player
for us who produces big moments and hopefully
that was the first of a few.
Tonight, we welcome Wycombe, manager Matt
Bloomfield, his staff, players and the travelling
fans. They come here after a fantastic result at the
weekend and we know we’ll need to be at our best
to get the result we want.
The game continues our run of mid-week fixtures
which will now go up to mid-March. It’s a tough
schedule but one we will embrace and try to use
to our advantage by turning games in hand into
points.
We are still in a fantastic position with
everything in our own hands. That continues
to be the message and with your backing
tonight, hopefully we can together take
another forward step in the journey.
Enjoy the game and thanks for your
support.
Ian

MATCH ACTION
NORTHAMPTON TOWN 1
(Bowie 2)
WANDERERS 1
(Mendes Gomes 74)
SATURDAY 10 FEBRUARY | SKY BET LEAGUE ONE | SIXFIELDS STADIUM
REFEREE: JEREMY SIMPSON | ATTENDANCE: 7,593 (AWAY 1,370)
WANDERERS HIT BACK WITH 10 MEN AS
CARLOS MENDES GOMES SECURED A
POTENTIALLY IMPORTANT POINT WITH HIS
FIRST LEAGUE GOAL FOR THE WHITES.
George Thomason’s red card for a foul on
Aaron McGowan left the Whites a man light for
more than an hour.
Ian Evatt’s men were already losing to a secondminute
goal from Kieron Bowie and also lost the
services of their manager after Evatt was also
dismissed at the break.
Assistant boss Peter Atherton took over in the
technical area and with Wanderers sending on
forwards Mendes Gomes and Aaron Collins, the
visitors were re-energised.
And Wanderers’ reward for an excellent secondhalf
performance was an equaliser from Mendes
Gomes 16 minutes from time.
Louie Moulden – brother of Wanderers’ kitman
Ted – had come on for Town at half-time and the
keeper made a decent save to keep out a dipping
long-range volley from Eoin Toal.
But he was powerless to prevent Mendes Gomes
heading home his first goal since returning from
international duty at the African Cup of Nations
from the corner that followed.
Wanderers then went for the winner as Moulden
twice denied Collins in an almighty goalmouth
scramble which saw the Whites pepper the
Cobblers’ goal.
Northampton Town: Burge (Moulden HT);
McGowan (Lintott 35), Willis, Guthrie, Brough;
Leonard, Gape (Fox 63), Hondermarck (Springett
76); Pinnock, Bowie, Appere (Simpson 76).
Substitutes: Monthe, Haynes.
Wanderers: Coleman; Jones, Taylor (Iredale 76),
Toal; Sheehan (Morley 84); Ramsay (Mendes
Gomes HT), Dempsey, Thomason, Ashworth;
Charles (Jerome 76), Adeboyejo (Collins HT).
Substitutes: Bodvarsson, Maghoma.
Town then went close themselves as Joel Coleman
– making his league debut for Wanderers in place
of the injured Nathan Baxter – was forced to save
from Ben Fox.
But the Whites had done enough to extend
their unbeaten run to four games with a second
successive comeback keeping them within a point
of second-placed Derby with two games in hand in
the promotion race.

CALEB TAYLOR ADMITS
HIS LIFE WAS ONLY
GOING TO GO ONE WAY,
WRITES PETE OLIVER.
CALEB TAYLOR
IS PROUDLY
SPONSORED BY:

Born in Burnley while his father was playing for
arch-rivals Blackburn Rovers, football was in
the genes.
Martin Taylor’s subsequent move to Birmingham
City meant Caleb grew up in the Midlands but
the die was cast and after joining West Bromwich
Albion as a boy his career path has followed a
similar trajectory – so far.
“My dad played in the Premier League so there
are high expectations. I’ve got a bit to go!” laughs
Taylor junior when asked about following in his
father’s footsteps.
Martin Taylor made his first team bow in the topflight
with Rovers in March, 1999 – four years
before Caleb was born – and also played in the
Premier League for the Blues before moving into
the Championship with Watford and Sheffield
Wednesday.
“I do remember some Birmingham games,”
recalled Caleb. “I remember him being at Watford
and I remember clearly a few Sheffield Wednesday
games, the last club he was at.
“I remember going there to watch and it was
strange when I played there last season. I
remembered going inside the players’ rooms and
lounge when I was a kid. Then being back playing
there as a player myself was weird.”
Dubbed ‘Tiny’ throughout his playing days, which
also brought him an England U21 cap, Martin
stood at six-feet-four. Caleb has already surpassed
that height and while showing an interest in other
sports, was always destined to go down a familiar
path as an imposing central defender.
“I feel like it’s never been a case when I wasn’t
going to be a footballer,” he admitted. “I just grew
up playing football. I was in the Academy (at The
Hawthorns) and kept getting a contract and then,
all of a sudden, you are training with the first team
at 16 or 17.
“That’s when it starts getting serious and then
you get your first pro (contract) and you’ve turned
footballer. It’s just always been that. Never anything
else.”
While Martin – who was at the Toughsheet
Community Stadium to watch his son’s Wanderers’
debut at the start of the month – has been a ready
ear and example to follow, Caleb also attributes the
role of his mum, Vicky, in his development.
“I talk to my parents pretty much every day,” added
the 21-year-old, who is one of three sons. “As well
as my dad, my mum has helped me a lot in terms
of being mentally strong. She has always drummed
that into me.”
Mental fortitude certainly plays its part in forging
a successful professional career and Taylor has
evidently shown what it takes to make the early
positive steps.
Progressing right through the ranks with the
Baggies – alongside good friend and now
temporary team-mate Zac Ashworth – Taylor
played in the EFL Trophy in the 2020/21 season
before getting his first taste of senior football with
the Baggies the following season.
However, it was in a season-long loan with
Cheltenham Town last term that the towering
defender got his first prolonged experience of firstteam
football and everything that goes with it as he
helped the Robins finish 16th in League One.
12 | The Wanderer

The Wanderer | 13
“It was my first real taste of men’s football and I
learned so much from all the lads and the staff
there,” said Taylor. “It was a good season and
playing in League One already gave me a bit of
confidence that I can do it.
“In January I came on away at Norwich (for West
Brom) and played against Wolves as a substitute a
couple of weekends ago in the FA Cup. They are
big teams, so playing against them has given me a
lot of confidence to come here and do well.”
Taylor is held in high regard at the Hawthorns. But
with most of his appearances for the Baggies so
far coming from the bench, it was in everyone’s
interests for him to get out and play regularly in the
second half of the season.
It took until deadline day at the end of the January
transfer window for his move to Wanderers to
happen and Taylor is delighted it was the Whites
who won the chase.
Pitched straight in for a debut against Barnsley,
Taylor had big boots to fill as the replacement for
injured captain Ricardo Almeida Santos as a key
defender and, often, the man who launches the
play for Ian Evatt’s men.
“It’s definitely a lot of responsibility, because
you’re either starting the play or you can’t mess up
because you’re closest to the goal,” he said. “It’s
similar to the goalkeeper but I really enjoy it. I’ve
been doing it for years, so I have got used to it, but
it’s definitely been good to get some games in and
get used to how it feels.”
Taylor has certainly had to pick things up quickly
with Wanderers twice having to come from behind
in his two games so far (either side of the wash-out
at Cambridge) to secure valuable points against
Barnsley and then at Northampton Town last
Saturday.
Both results have kept the Whites on the edge of
the automatic promotion places with games in
hand on the sides above them going into tonight’s
game against Wycombe Wanderers – the first of
two home games in five days.
Evatt isn’t short of defensive options for the rest
of the run-in and Taylor is hungry to be part of a
squad pushing for promotion.
“I’ve settled in so well, it feels like I’ve been here for
ages,” he added. “They’re all great and have made
me feel so welcome which shows what a great
group they are.
“The lads have been saying in the changing room
that it’s such a great environment. Everyone is
bantering each other and having a good time but
it’s also serious on the other side because we want
to do well.
“I’ve been waiting to play first-team football all
this season, so to be doing it in a place like this is
special. It was a really good experience walking out
in front of all the fans here for me debut.
“Every game is going to be a big game from now
if we get what we want, so I’m just really looking
forward to playing a part in it.”
With a couple of promotions on his career CV,
Martin Taylor has laid the blueprint. Like father, like
son

PATIENCE PAID OFF FOR CARLOS MENDES
GOMES AS HE OPENED HIS LEAGUE ONE
SCORING ACCOUNT FOR THE WHITES.
Mendes Gomes added to his two goals in the
Bristol Street Motors Trophy with Wanderers’
equaliser at Northampton Town on Saturday.
It was a big goal for the Whites, who hit back with
10 men to claim a precious point.
And it also meant a lot to Mendes Gomes after a
disrupted start to his Wanderers’ career for the
former Morecambe and Luton Town man.
“For me it's been a little bit tough this season, being
injured and out for two months and then having to
go away with the national team,” he said.
“It’s an honour to play for my country but I'm happy
to be back and we know the next three months are
going to be very important.
“I am delighted to help the team and every time I
have been out there that has been my goal.”
Mendes Gomes came off the bench at the Sixfields
Stadium, where his second-half header
capped an impressive fightback from
the 10-man Whites in his third appearance since
returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with
Guinea Bissau.
The 24-year-old is yet to start a league game for
the Whites since signing from Luton last summer
but could still have a big part to play in the run-in
as Ian Evatt’s men look to sustain a promotion
challenge which continues tonight against Wycome
Wanderers at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
“It is always special at our stadium, and when I
get the chance I will do my best,” Mendes Gomes
added.
“Scoring goals as an attacking player gives you
confidence. The support from the fans has been
unbelievable, away from home especially, and it's
always nice to score in front of them.
“My goal is to help the team in any shape or form.
I believe there is a lot more to come from me and
I have been patient. But I am blessed to be here,
happy to be here, and I want to help the team in
any way.”
FROM THE ARCHIVES
ARCHIE FREEBAIRN
(1869-1917)
Archie Freebairn hailed from Glasgow and
began his career with Partick Thistle. He
moved south to Bolton in 1894, making his
debut on the opening day of the season, a
2-2 draw with Stoke at Pikes Lane.
On the last day of that season the wing half
scored his only goal of that term in a 5-0 win
against West Brom in what was the final League
game at Pikes Lane. He played in the first
League game at Burnden Park and was to serve
Bolton Wanderers for thirteen years making 315
first team appearances.
His 135 consecutive League appearances
between 1894 and 1899 remain a club record
for an outfield player. He became captain in
1899 and helped the club to promotion to
Division One in 1900 and 1905. In 1904 he
played in the FA Cup final against Manchester
City that resulted in City winning 1-0 to register
their first major honour.
After retiring he became an insurance agent in
Bolton where he remained for the remainder of
his life.
OPPOSITION
WYCOMBE
WANDERERS
IT’S BEEN A NEW ERA AT WYCOMBE WANDERERS
SINCE MATT BLOOMFIELD REPLACED GARETH
AINSWORTH AS MANAGER A YEAR AGO THIS MONTH.
Last February, Ainsworth called time on his
lengthy stay at Adams Park to take over at
former club Queens Park Rangers.
That move didn’t work out for the ex-Hoops’
forward, who was to stay just eight months at
Loftus Road on his return.
His legacy is safe at Wycombe, however, after
more than a decade in charge of the Chairboys,
where he also ended his playing career and
oversaw two promotion successes.
The second of those saw Wycombe’s stay in the
Championship in 2020/21 last just one season
before 12 months later they were only denied an
instant return by defeat to Sunderland in the
League One play-off final at Wembley.
A play-off challenge was on the cards again last
season before Ainsworth’s departure, following a
1-0 home win over Wanderers, and a subsequent
ninth-place finish.
Another Wycombe stalwart, former midfielder
Bloomfield, was the man charged with filling the
void as he recently passed 50 league games in the
Wycombe hot seat.
After a tough end to last season, Bloomfield’s men
made a decent start to the current campaign to sit
around the early top-six pace-setters.
A testing run of 12 league games without a win up
to the turn of the year – including Wanderers’ first
ever win at Adams Park – paused that momentum
as Wycombe slipped off the play-off pace.
18 | The Wanderer

The Wanderer | 19
A run of just one loss in seven league games
since Boxing Day (before Saturday’s visit of
Peterborough) steadied the ship and kept them
clear of the bottom four.
Bloomfield added seven news faces to his squad
in January to keep building but Wycombe’s best
chance of success this season looks set to come in
the Bristol Street Motors Trophy following their run
to the semi-finals.
Two goals from former Wanderers’ wideman
Kieran Sadlier saw them overcome Brighton’s U21s
in the last eight.
And League Two Bradford City now stand in their
way of a trip to Wembley and the chance to end
the season on a high with some silverware.

THE BOSS
MATT BLOOMFIELD
WAS PART OF THE
FURNITURE AT ADAMS
PARK AND SAW HIS
NAME PUT ON THE
MANAGER’S DOOR
LAST FEBRUARY.
A magnificent servant to the club as a player,
the midfielder played all his first-team football
for the Chairboys, bar a solitary League Cup
appearance for Ipswich Town where he started
his career.
Felixstowe-born Bloomfield played over 550
games for Wycombe and enjoyed three
promotions with the club before a head
injury sustained in 2021 forced the
former captain to hang up his boots.
He moved into coaching at
Wycombe before taking over as
manager at Colchester United in
September, 2022.
An impressive start to life in the dug-out
saw Bloomfield lead the U’s away from
relegation danger towards the bottom
of League Two before Wycombe picked
up the phone 12 months ago.
Bloomfield – who turned 40 last week
– accepted the challenge of filling the
boots of former team-mate and muchloved
boss Gareth Ainsworth.
And he, and the club, will now be
hoping for another prolonged stay to
write another successful chapter in his
Wycombe story.
GONE BUT NOT
FORGOTTEN
CLUB HISTORIAN SIMON MARLAND
LOOKS BACK AT GROUNDS NO LONGER IN
EXISTENCE WHERE THE WANDERERS
HAVE PLAYED IN THE PAST.
FELLOWS PARK
(WALSALL)
Walsall moved to Fellows Park in 1896
and remained there until 1990 when they
transferred to The Bescot Stadium situated a
quarter of a mile away. Until 1930 Fellows Park
was known as Hilary Street and was renamed
after H.L. Fellows who was a club director.
The Wanderers made eight League visits to
Fellows Park, failing to win on any occasion, the
first coming in November
1899 (programme pictured)
when a 2-2 draw resulted
as Bolton went on to win
promotion from the Second
Division as runners up to
Sheffield Wednesday.
Bolton’s next visit wasn’t
until July 1969 for a preseason
friendly, (programme
pictured) the home side winning 1-0, the remaining
seven League visits all coming in the third tier. In
April 1972 a John Byrom goal earned a 1-1 draw
with Brian Taylor netting for The Saddlers.
In October 1972 Wanderers ‘keeper Charlie Wright
missed his first game since joining the club through
injury, manager Jimmy Armfield giving a debut to
18 years old Barry Siddall (pictured) but he couldn’t
22 | The Wanderer

The Wanderer | 23
prevent Bolton going down by 3-2.
The home side, top of the table at
the time, led 3-0 at the interval and
the second half saw Bolton hit back
with goals from Paul Jones and Roy
Greaves. At the end of that term
Wanderers were champions whilst
Walsall finished 17th.
It wasn’t until January 1984 that the
sides faced each other again at the
venue. A Craig Shakespeare goal
winning the points for the Saddlers
to inflict some small revenge for their
8-1 defeat at Burnden Park earlier in
the season.
The next two trips both ended in
defeat without scoring with the
Wanderers ending the game in
September 1985 with nine men after
both David Cross and George Oghani received
their marching orders.
In October 1986 a point was earned from a 3-3
draw thanks to a last minute penalty save by
Wanderers ‘keeper Mike Salmon. Two goals in as
many minutes from Steve Thompson (penalty) and
Tony Caldwell gave Bolton an interval lead but
the home side were level within the hour through
Kenny Mower and Craig Shakespeare. Striker
Steve Elliott (pictured), who joined Wanderers
from Walsall four months earlier, put Bolton back
in front before David Kelly converted a penalty to
level things up. Kelly stepped up to
take the last minute penalty that saw
Salmon’s save earn a point.
Bolton’s last visit to Fellows Park
was in April 1990, a Tony Philliskirk
penalty wasn’t enough as a 2-1
defeat set the Wanderers up to
record just one win in the final eight
League games to sneak into the
play-offs which ended at the hands
of Notts County.
Bolton’s record at the Bescot
Stadium has been no better. Three
League visits have all ended in
defeat, the first of which came in the
second tier in January 2000 by 2-0,
the last was in December 2020, Eoin
Doyle netting (pictured scoring) in a
2-1 reverse in a game played behind closed doors.
In Cup football Wanderers have registered a win
at The Bescot Stadium, a second round League
Cup tie in September 2006 seeing a 3-1 success
with goals from Ivan Campo, Kevin Nolan and Nic
Anelka, who netted his first goal for the club.
Whilst Bolton’s record at either venue in Walsall
hasn’t produced much success, conversely The
Saddlers visits to Bolton has seen them win just
once in fourteen League and cup visits.

The midfielder continued his superb run of form
and helped the Whites to three wins out of four in
League One and to reach the quarter-finals of the
Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Sheehan also showed his class in two appearances
against Premier League opposition as Wanderers
took Luton Town to a third-round replay of the FA
Cup.
“January was a really good month for us in
terms of our results in the league and our league
position,” said Sheehan.
“I was glad to play my part and it means a lot to
win the award. Thanks to the supporters who voted
for me.
HOW BWitC ARE PROVIDING
INCLUSIVE SPORTING PATHWAYS
WITH PANATHLON CHALLENGE
Through a longstanding partnership with
Panathlon Challenge, Bolton Wanderers in the
Community are providing inclusive sporting
events for primary and secondary aged pupils
which ultimately aim to increase confidence,
self-esteem and leadership qualities.
The most recent example of this being the
Panathlon North West Regional Ten Pin Bowling
Finals for Secondary Schools and Colleges at
Hollywood Bowl, Bolton. Tailored for SEND pupils,
all teams had pre-qualified through winning
their local events, with schools across Greater
Manchester also having to finish in the top three
in their County Finals, such is the demand for the
programme in this County.
Speaking at one of the events, a teacher from High
Lawn, Bolton, said: “I can’t think of any of the boys
I’ve brought today who’ve competed in anything
with school before (these events). This game in itself
embodies a level playing field.”
Eighteen school teams travelled to compete in
Bolton from as far as Blackpool, South Lakes and
Pendle, with over 100 participants representing
their respective schools.
Elaine Dodwell of Cartmel Priory said: “There are
children who wouldn’t have this opportunity. It’s a
leveller. Not only are we playing, we’re playing to win
and take back a trophy like any other school team
would.”
Another opportunity provided at these events, is
the Young Sport Leaders course currently being
undertaken by Year 10 Pupils studying Option PE at
Little Lever School.
During the course, the group will be brought to
Bolton Arena and trained by our Disability Project
Officer Debbie, in delivering inclusive sporting
events to younger students with SEND needs.
Mrs Bannister, of Little Lever School, said: “The
maturity levels have gone through the roof since they
started. You can see they now have new empathy for
children with disabilities and are able to adapt the
way they communicate and interact with different
people with different needs.
“This newfound confidence and maturity has a ripple
effect that you can see through the rest of their
school work. They’re working harder, they know what
they need to do. It’s developed them as a whole,
really.”
Wyn Davies was carried off early in the second half
the old Second Division were Northampton, Bolton
BUILDING
COMMUNITY
Through the charity arm of the Club, Bolton
Wanderers in the Community are engaging
many areas and neighbourhoods across Bolton.
This can never be done alone and a key partner
of the charity for many years has been Bolton
at Home, and we are delighted to be hosting
members of the Bolton at Home team at
tonight’s game.
A community is about the family, support, friends
and being part of a neighbourhood. Bolton
at Home are more than a provider of social
housing in Bolton. Within the community they
play an important part in offering support in
neighbourhoods and the wider community and
help in making Bolton a better place for many
people.
Through the support of Bolton at Home, Bolton
Wanderers in the Community have been able to
deliver the Premier League for Kicks programme
in some of the most deprived areas of Bolton
and help in reducing anti-social behaviour and in
giving participants a more positive outlook on life.
This programme looks to support young people in
their neighbourhoods to engage in positive activity,
including sport, and to break down barriers that
may exist. It is about encouraging these young
people to see their own talents and gifts
and for them to have the self-confidence to make a
change in their lives.
This in turn gives the young people involved
greater self-esteem and helps to build their
aspirations.
We have seen lives changed through this
programme and young people look to a new
direction and have hope for the future.
The Bolton at Home partnership is one we
are particularly proud of and through the
partnership we have seen a building of resilience
in communities and have had the opportunity to
support residents of Bolton at Home to engage
further with their Club and to attend games at the
stadium.
Building community is key to what we are doing
as a football club and it is vital that we continue to
play our part, in partnership with others, in making
our town a better place to live and work.
We are One Club, One Community, One Town. We
are all Wanderers.
Enjoy the game.
FRIDAY 16 FEBRUARY
As all our members have been advised, our
next BWFCST AGM will be held on the evening
a good number of questions for Neil and Ian to
answer on the night. The evening will be hosted
by well-known broadcaster and BWFC fan,
Darryl Morris and we look forward to a lively
and informative evening.
In a recent post on the BWFC website, Neil Hart
said: “The positive relationship between the club
THE B TEAM ADDED
TO THEIR GAMES’
PROGRAMME WITH A
TRAINING-GROUND
FRIENDLY AGAINST
MANCHESTER
UNITED’S U21S.
The young Whites led at Carrington through a
goal from a trialist before losing 4-1.
The game at United adds to a varied itinerary
planned for the B Team in an effort to add to
their experience and expose them to a number of
different types of opponents.
NELSON
KHUMBENI MADE
A WINNING START
TO HIS EFL CAREER
AFTER STEPPING
INTO LEAGUE TWO
WITH MORECAMBE.
The Wanderers’ midfielder joined the Shrimps
on loan for the rest of the season on transfer
deadline day and made a winning debut at
Crawley Town.
Khumbeni has previously made a couple of senior
appearances via the bench for the Whites in
cup competitions since joining the B Team from
Norwich City in August, 2022.
The 21-year-old then made eight National League
appearances in an impressive loan spell at AFC
Fylde earlier this season and after recovering from
injury joined Morecambe with Wanderers keen for
him to gain competitive first-team experience at his
highest level yet.
A scheduled fixture against Fylde fell foul of the
weather last week and following a planned friendly
this week, Andy Taylor’s side is next in Central
League action at Salford City next Tuesday.
YOUNG STRIKER
CONOR CARTY
HAS RETURNED TO
WANDERERS FOR
TREATMENT AFTER
SUFFERING A KNEE
INJURY DURING
HIS LOAN SPELL AT
DONCASTER ROVERS.
Carty was in his fifth appearance for the League
Two side when he suffered the injury in their
Bristol Street Motors Trophy tie at Bradford City
at the end of January.
The Youth Team will face Blackburn Rovers U18s
in the final of the Lancashire FA Professional Youth
Cup at Leyland on Tuesday, 12 March (KO 7.30pm).

SPECIAL OCCASION TREAT
HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY ZACK. LOVE MUM, DAD AND THOMAS XXX
HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY LEO. LOTS OF LOVE NANA & PAUL XXX
GOLDEN GOAL WINNERS!
Here are a few of our recent lucky Golden Goal
Winners.
Most recently (at time of writing) Garry Dickinson
of Ladybridge was the Golden Goal Winner from
the rescheduled game versus Cheltenham Town
on the 23rd January.
Garry brought his wife
Nicola to her first ever
game and bought his
Golden Goal tickets
from our seller Jason
outside the Club Store.
When the first goal hit
the back of the net at
23mins and 22 secs,
they couldn’t believe
their eyes.
Garry is celebrating his 50th birthday this year so
the money will go towards a holiday for them to
celebrate this milestone, congratulations to them
both.
The game versus Burton Albion saw Gregory
Goldston win the £500 prize.
Gregory travels from Tamworth, Staffordshire
every home and away game to support the mighty
Whites and intends to spend his winnings on away
tickets and petrol travelling to home and away
games, among other things.
Gregory bought his winning ticket with
the time 50 mins and 4 seconds from
our seller Jason
outside the Club
Store. Congratulations
Gregory.
So that’s two winners
for Jason over the last
couple of home league
games. Will he make it
three or will it be one of
our other sellers? Sellers are based throughout the
Lower Concourse, Outside the Club Shop, in the
Fanzone, in the hotel and throughout Hospitality
areas.
However, with only 1801 tickets on sale every
game, tickets do sell out quickly so make sure you
get yours as soon as you spot our sellers.
Each £1 ticket gives you three chances to win, with
three separate times printed and this is the case for
1800 tickets. The final ticket has 00 – 00 printed,
just in case we have a 0-0 draw so we have all
bases covered.
Players must be 18 years old or over. Tickets are £1
and this is cash only.
All monies raised from the Golden Goal, after
prizes and expenses have been paid, is used by the
BWDA to fund projects throughout the Club that
would not be possible without your support.
Thank you to all who support our efforts and we
hope you’re a winner with us soon.
