Composer’s Note:<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>Carillon</strong> <strong>Calls</strong> was commissioned the celebrate 100 years of band at Topeka High<br />
School. This piece highlights the bell tower and school song, both of which hold a<br />
great significance in connection to the past and continuation in the rich history and<br />
traditions of Topeka High. To tell the story through music, the piece includes parts of<br />
the melody from the school song mixed with the feelings of reflection and pride as<br />
indicated in the stylistic changes in the music. <strong>The</strong>re are also a unique set of distinct<br />
chime parts to celebrate the iconic bell tower. <br />

Program Bio:<br />
Grace Baugher Dunlap (b.1995) is a Kansas born composer, horn player,<br />
and music educator. Her music is known for its memorable melodies and<br />
highlights emotional aspects of the human experience. She is a graduate of the<br />
University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Masters in Music Composition and<br />
Graduate Certificate in Music <strong>The</strong>ory Pedagogy. Previously she studied<br />
Music Composition and French Horn at Kansas State University where she<br />
later received a Graduated Certificate in Music Education. Her music has<br />
an international presence and has made appearances at many colleges<br />
and conferences across the country.<br />
Grace lives in Kansas City with her husband Max, her cats Elsa and Willett, and<br />
many, many plants.<br />
