Choosing Your Drive

First, decide where you’re going to put the drive. If you have a new

motherboard, just slip the drive into the M.2 socket and secure it with the tiny

screw. If you plan to install a 3.5-inch HDD or 2.5-inch SSD, then you need

to go old school. Look for an open SATA connection. Is it part of a dedicated

RAID controller? Many motherboards with built-in RAID controllers have a

CMOS setting that enables you to turn the RAID controller on or off (see

Figure 8-24).
