hard to handle. Wide acceptance of SO-DIMMs solved these problems for a

time—until ultra-thin laptops started turning up with soldered-on RAM. Most

larger laptops still provide relatively convenient access to their SO-DIMMs,

making it easy to add or replace RAM.

Access to RAM usually requires removing a panel or lifting up the

keyboard—the procedure varies among laptop manufacturers. Figure 4-35

shows a typical laptop RAM access panel. You can slide the panel off to

reveal the SO-DIMMs. Slide the pins into position and snap the SO-DIMM

down into the retaining clips (see Figure 4-36).
