Just as Intel and AMD make many types of CPUs, motherboards are

manufactured with various different types of sockets. There have been

hundreds of sockets developed over the years. Table 3-2 charts a few of the

more popular ones in production today. CompTIA has traditionally tested on

both the socket number/name and the alternative name, in the case of Intel

sockets. I’ve included the most recent socket names and alternative names

here.
