Port forwarding isn’t the only way to open ports on a firewall. Port

triggering enables you to open an incoming connection to one computer

automatically based on a specific outgoing connection. The trigger port

defines the outgoing connection, and the destination port defines the

incoming connection. If you set the trigger port to 3434 and the destination

port to 1234, for example, any outgoing traffic on port 3434 will trigger the

router to open port 1234 and send any received data back to the system that

sent the goriginal outgoing traffic. Figure 27-30 shows a router set up with

port triggering for an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) server.
