EXAM TIP We call using only a user name and password single-factor

authentication because they’re both something you know. More robust

multifactor authentication systems may require something you have (like a

security card), are (face and fingerprint scans), and more. Chapter 25, “Care

and Feeding of Mobile Devices,” takes a closer look at the role these factors

play in authentication.

To accomplish this, the network uses authentication protocols like

RADIUS and TACACS+ to authenticate each user with an authentication

server. Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) and Terminal

Access Controller Access-Control System Plus (TACACS+) are protocols for

authenticating network users and managing what resources they may access.

RADIUS is partially encrypted and uses UDP; TACACS+ is fully encrypted

and uses TCP.
