DisplayPort and Thunderbolt Some monitors use either DisplayPort (DP)

or Thunderbolt to connect to computers. Both support full-HD video and

audio.

I’ve lumped them together here for a reason. Full-sized DP connections

are common these days, like with my Dell monitors (see Figure 17-25).

These connect to full-sized DP ports on display adapters, as you would

expect.

Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2, which you’ll recall from Chapter 10,

“Essential Peripherals,” adopted the same connector type that’s used for the

small version of DisplayPort, called Mini DisplayPort (mDP). Thunderbolt 3

uses the USB Type-C connector. Fair warning: you’ll find monitors that

connect mDP-to-mDP without using Thunderbolt 1 or 2, and many USB
