As EA and Tyler think back to that night,
they want everyone to know that they don’t
believe any of the things that happened were
coincidence. EA knows that she was trained
in CPR for a reason, and that miracles do
happen, and we don’t always need to know
the why or the reasoning behind them.
As Tyler states when asked about that
night, “I’m just beyond grateful for this miracle.
Being on the other side of healthcare–
the patient-side instead of the provider-side–
will certainly change the way that I practice
medicine in the future.”
Elizabeth Ann now also knows that a
cardiac episode could happen at any time, to
anyone. According to the American Heart
Association, 70 percent of heart failures
happen at home. She now has an AED in
her car. “So, we’re just thankful to be able to
share with people the importance of CPR
because nobody ever thinks it’s going to be
them that has to perform CPR.”
The Howells are thankful for everything
that allowed Tyler’s life to be saved that night.
Tyler is especially thankful to be able to
watch their precious daughter, Everly, grow
up. More time with family is something the
Howells do not take for granted, as they
know that Tyler’s outcome is not the case
for many who suffer from a similar cardiac
event.
The Howells will serve as the Open Your
Heart Honorees at the 46th Annual Metro
Jackson Heart Ball. The event will be held
on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the
Country Club of Jackson, where Elizabeth
Ann and Tyler will help raise crucial funds
to support the local work of the American
Heart Association. They are proud that
100% of the funds they help raise through
Heart Ball will stay in Mississippi to help
support CPR education, policy for first
responders, and research for future lifesaving
discoveries.
