Bosman 

Casper Bosman has graced the cover of Get It Bloemfontein 

a few times in the last 18 years. Since he started his career in 

fashion design in 2005, he has strived to have the right amount 

of ambition, hard work, and attention to detail.

here are a few things in life that cannot be 

measured by the naked eye … the hours you 

put in and the sacrifices you make cannot be weighed 

but the joy and growth that comes from it always exceeds 

what you put in. 

Casper Bosman, who graced the cover of Get It 

Bloemfontein three times in the last 18 years, said since he 

started his career in fashion design in 2005, he strived 

to have the right amount of ambition, hard work, and 

attention to detail. 

This helped him create longevity in not only the 

South African fashion industry but also to establish the 

Casper Bosman brand internationally. “I think I’ve grown on so many levels. 

I see life in a different light, the angle has changed. 

I’ve become more comfortable in my own skin and have created a signature 

and my own mark in the world.” With a luxurious aesthetic approach and an 

immaculate attention to detail, Casper has a vision to create and establish a wellrecognised 

brand as one of the top designers in SA. He enjoys to create pieces that 

shows the unique style and personality of the client in front of him. 

“It’s a big responsibility to make sure they look and feel their best,” he said. 

His poise and charm emphasises this sentiment thoroughly by the way he presents 

himself. 

The Tuxedo on the cover photograph is not a prop but resembles years of 

dedication and commitment. As a creative, the 40-year-old said it is a task to 

balance the right amount of creativity while managing the business side of things. 

Luckily for Casper it is not just about making beautiful designs. 

“If it doesn’t sell you won’t have a sustainable business. You have to learn to 

consider current trends and then add your creative stamp and sometimes you just 

have to make something that is not your personal style,” he said. 

He added that there are so many factors that determine how people express their 

individual style or how they interpret current trends. 

“I do believe that every city has its own ‘look’ when it comes to how people express 

their personal style. 

I think life and fashion are ever-changing with the different stages of life. 

How you grow, how a city grows. 

Evolution of culture plays a big role – conservative or more liberal social needs will 

influence the trends significantly.” 

Casper has dressed well-known personalities and influencers throughout his career 

but still enjoys the process of getting to know the person behind the name. 

These include Pearl Thusi, DJ Zinhle, Lalla, Thando Tabethe, Boity, Lorna Maseko, 

Christina Storm, and 11 former winners of Miss South Africa. 

He has also dressed numerous Miss Earth SA finalists as well as Mrs South Africa 

finalists and title holders. 

“I can honestly say that my process has changed since 2005. I now have many 

capable hands to assist me and each one has perfected their craft over the years, I 

can now spend more time and energy on the design process. 

The most important step is to identify the impact we want to make. 

Whether it is to create a timeless moment or to make a bold statement that creates 

a buzz and make the public talk,” he said. 

Working with people comes as second nature for the designer, who graciously 

moved around the Casper Bosman Studios based in Bloemfontein during the 

photoshoot.

I have realised that

moving with trends and 

the different stages of 

life and design. 

When I started off, I had a 

very clear vision to make sure that 

my designs would always do the 

talking to build a well-known brand,” 

he explained while sketching a rough 

design. 

Casper said he was fortunate enough 

to have his designs recognised on 

numerous national and international 

stages which allows him to attract 

clientele from all over the globe. 

Casper was eagerly anticipating a trip 

to Vietnam during the shoot. 

He was heading to a Vietnamesebased 

company called YALY COUTURE 

to work on a new collection for 

2023/24. 

“The connection with YALY COUTURE 

was established in 2019 when I worked 

on my first show with YALY COUTURE 

as creative director,” he said. 

He has ventured into interior design 

in 2021, and launched a new wing by 

launching Casper Bosman Interiors. 

“The main focus has been on the 

interiors of the exclusive Cradle 

Boutique Hotel situated in the Cradle 

of Humankind, with projects in London 

and a few other unique homes. 

I have also been working on an 

exclusive soft furnishing range that 

will be added to the Casper Bosman 

Interiors brand soon,” he said. 

As he continues to claim his place in 

the ever-changing fashion industry, 

Bloemfontein will always be the place 

he calls home and where Casper 

Bosman, the brand and person 

was born.

Salomé Reizis 

Building from the ground up since young 

hen you’ve been 

building for as long 

as Salomé Reizis has, it 

is no longer a surprise 

when you start to refine 

techniques and perfect 

projects. Salomé grew up 

watching her grandmother 

upgrade the properties she 

invested in and, inspired by her, decided that she 

would do the same. 

“I was always playing, I built little houses and 

put leaves for carpets, and 

I had lots of 

imagination from 

very young, so 

when I got this 

opportunity to 

‘play’, I went all in 

made stick dolls and things 

like that,” recalls the Reizis 

square owner. Taking on 

fixer-upper projects and 

working them around her 

functions is what Salomé 

does, often refurbishing 

and repurposing others’ 

scraps and adding them to 

her treasure trove in Torbet 

Street. “Yes, I love anything 

scrappy that I can fix and 

stand back and see ‘this is 

what I’ve accomplished 

or made or created’, ” she 

says, “So, yes, I always see 

potential in other people’s 

scrap.” 

Since Salomé’s original 

interview with Get It 

in 2021, the energetic 

businesswoman says she has 

learned to communicate better. 

“I really have learned a lot about people, to 

communicate and to even be more creative and to 

think out of the box because times are really tough,” 

she explains. 

Salomé wants young women stepping into any 

business to remember that it will be a testing 

endeavour and will be difficult to start. “Blood, sweat 

and tears,” is what she says it takes to make it, “this is 

a really tough game”. 

Her advice to anyone taking on a project is to 

remain passionate and committed to their goal. 

“If you lack passion, don’t start it,” she says, “even if 

things are hard to start-up, if you’ve got passion and 

you put hours in, you will definitely succeed.” 

Salomé also believes that people tend to be too 

hard on themselves, and encourages everyone to 

acknowledge and appreciate each step, no matter 

how small, in the right direction. 

When she is not working, helping tenants, or 

taking on another project, 

she prefers to be outside, 

meeting new people and 

experiencing real living. 

“Sometimes I take a very 

nice long bubble bath,” 

Salomé says, “I love spending 

time with my dogs and 

my cats, and on a Saturday 

I’ll spend time with my 

mother”. Her weekly visits 

and daily talks with her 

mother form an integral 

part of her week, meaning 

Salomé will drop everything 

she is busy with to spend 

some time with her. 

When your life is as 

full as Salomé’s, breaks 

are hard to come by, 

but the phenomenal 

businesswoman is hoping 

to slow down in the years to 

come. “Sometime in the future, I want to slow a little 

bit down and take maybe a little bit more holidays 

because this year was crazy,” she says. 

Salomé Reizis started building from a young age, 

and has built up her beloved Reizis Square to what 

it is today. 

She will continue to do so, with tremendous skill 

and a hands-on approach, for as long as she can.

frosted Smokey eye 

Pull out your flip phone for a selfie and take 

a walk down memory lane with this frosted 

Smokey eye with a contemporary touch done

Remember to prep your skin ladies 

Skincare will always be your first step to any makeup look. 

Exfoliation, daily washing and toning and the correct 

moisturiser and serums are very important. 

For daytime makeup, sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!! 

Moisturising before your makeup routine can also be a 

great primer for dryer skin. If you have oily skin, try to get 

an oil-control primer to help with those shiny areas. 

Get your eyes done in just a few steps! 

1. Start with the eyes before the foundation. 

2. Use a light coat of concealer over the whole lid to even 

out the veins and discolouration. 

3. You can set this with a loose- or compact powder to 

help your eyeshadow glide over the lid. 

4. Apply a medium-toned colour, just darker than your 

skin, through the crease of your eye, make sure that 

when you open your eyes and look straight forward it is 

blended up where it can be seen. 

5. Then add a dark shadow close to the lash line, filling in 

the whole lid space, and lightly blending it towards the 

brow or the temples if you want to draw the eyes out a 

bit more. Pro tip: A Smokey eye is a technique, not just 

a black eyeshadow all around the eyes. The technique 

is that the colour is most intense close to the lashes 

blended into nothing. 

6. What you do on top, you do at the bottom. Start with 

the medium tone colour underneath the lashes and 

darken it up with your dark colour, tapering it thinner 

towards the nose and connecting the outside corners. 

7. Time to add your liner. Use dark eyeliner in the same 

shade of your shadow to line your top and bottom lash 

line, softly blending it out with a cotton bud or liner 

brush. Line the inner waterline as well on the bottom 

and top to create that full Smokey eye. 

Let’s add that 2000s flare 

Take a white shimmery eyeshadow and intensify those 

inner corners and brow-bones!! 

The brow-bone highlight was Icy in the 2000s and is 

making a comeback in the fall/winter looks of 2024! 

8. To open up your eyes, firstly curl your lashes with an 

eyelash curler then go in with a volumising mascara. 

Brows 

9. Fill in your eyebrows with a slip eyebrow pencil, 

drawing in hair where needed. Use a shade lighter 

than your hair colour. 

Face beat! 

10. Use a makeup wipe to clean up underneath the 

eyes if there is any dark eyeshadow powder that 

fell on the cheeks. 

11. Choose a concealer with a peachy/orange 

undertone to make sure your darker circles are 

neutralised. 

Foundation 

12. Choose the right foundation for your skin. If you 

can get away with less, rather opt for a BB Cream and 

conceal in the spots if you really need to have more 

coverage. 

13. Blend out your foundation and add a bit of cream 

bronzer to the outside edges of your face, to bring 

back some definition. 

14. For an evening look, you can contour as well with 

a darker shade of foundation. Powder only where 

absolutely necessary. 

15. Add a pop of colour with your favourite blush. With a 

darker eyeshadow look, a brighter blush is sometimes 

needed to balance out the look. 

16. Time for the HIGHLIGHT!!! Add some highlighting 

powder on the highest points of the cheeks, draping a 

little bit onto the apples. 

Lips 

The 2000s lips were either very pale pink or blacked out, 

dark lined or va-va-voom red!! With this look, we are opting 

for a more subtle darker line, blended in and a lighter 

colour added in the centre, to not compete with the eyes. 

If you want to do a red lip with this look … you go, girl!! 

You will be bringing out your inner Diva, like Christina 

Aguilera! 

Just remember to add gloss!!!! Glossy lips are back! Add a 

slick of clear gloss to make any lip bring out the 2000s.

Traditional pancakes 

with a milk tart twist 

The way we consume and prepare food changes over time, but it doesn’t change the feeling 

that comes when you smell freshly prepared pancakes and milk tarts. It instantly takes you 

to a time long gone. Thanks to Dancakes (Danie & Pancakes), you can get a taste of nostalgia 

with this easy-to-prepare milk tart recipe, with a modern touch. 

Ingredients: 

Dancakes milk tart premix packet (available 

exclusively from Dancakes) 

3 eggs 

1 litre of milk 

Method: 

Using your own homemade or premix 

pancake batter, make a few pancakes and set 

aside. If you would like to serve them warm, 

start making your pancakes once you start 

preparing your milk tart filling. 

Milk tart filling: 

Mix the eggs and premix packet. 

Bring the milk to a boil. 

Mix everything on the stove until thick and 

creamy. 

Plate your pancakes and fill it with the milk 

tart filling, sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon 

before rolling the pancakes.

Danie Jacobs’ mother sold pancakes and 

milk tarts as a side hustle when they were 

still at school to pay for all the sport tours. 

When Danie was in matric, he worked and 

did everything for a whole year for only R50 a 

Saturday. The rest of the money was used to 

buy the business from his mother. He even 

negotiated for more money by washing the 

dishes afterwards.

“There have been many sacrifices since he 

started. He worked late Friday evenings 

and started early Saturday mornings. As the 

business grew so did all the products that we 

sold. He still had an 8 to 5 job as a sales rep. 

When I gave birth to our first son end of 2021, 

we decided that he is going to leave his job 

and run Dancakes full time. He did this to be 

present in his son’s life and build his family 

as well as his own business. And we have 

never looked back. Since then, the business 

has grown exponentially,” said his wife and 

business partner, Janke Jacobs.
