THAILAND
SPOTLIGHT
Noodle Icon
Located between Kata and
Karon beaches, the Phad Thai shop
has been serving up wokfuls of its
namesake for as long as anyone can remember.
The hole-in-the-wall noodle joint became a local
icon years ago after drawing praise from the
Lonely Planet travel guide.
As the name suggests, it specialises in Phad
Thai, but with recipes that have foodies flocking
from all over the world for a taste. Other dishes
that merit attention here include the rich and
hearty beef noodle soup. The Phad Thai Shop, 12/3,
Karon, Phuket; Tel: +66 (0) 63 521 1170
FOREST SWIM
Hidden in the heart of lush rainforest, the
Emerald Pool is a natural wonder located just 45
minutes’ drive from Krabi Airport.
Turned a vibrant turquoise by natural mineral
deposits, the water here is ideal for a cool and
refreshing dip in the sultry forest heat.
The Emerald Pool lies at the end of a trail
that takes about 15 minutes on foot. Be sure to
pick up snacks from vendors at the entrance and
be mindful that it can get crowded at weekends.
DELIGHTFUL BITES
The world is full of steamy dim sum
shops stacked with bamboo baskets,
but Eeyeb Dim Sum boasts much more
than just piping-hot dumplings.
Fresh ingredients, a varied menu
and relaxed atmosphere are part of
the attraction, but superb flavours and
great service are the main draw. Apart
from the delicious crab, shrimp and
pork dim sum, diners keep returning
for Khanom Jeen or rice noodles
with curry. Pan-fried yellow noodles
and chicken curry with roti are also
favourites on the menu. Eeyeb Dim
Sum, 12, 103-104 Chao Fah Tawan Tok
