Wakehurst works in sync
We hear NB Council is making
headway negotiating
with Transport for NSW to
co-ordinate State-led safety
upgrade work on the Wakehurst
Parkway with Council’s flood
improvements agenda.
As reported last month, the
NSW Government is about to
commence $150m of blackspot
safety upgrades along the
Parkway, include two lanes
of roadway from Oxford Falls
Road to Frenchs Forest Road.
Meanwhile Council’s project
aims to reduce the frequency
of flooding at four locations
– Oxford Falls Road West, The
Bends, Sydney Academy of
Sport and Wakehurst Parkway
at Oxford Falls.
Council concedes that given
the programs are linked, it is
vital that construction is integrated
and delivered efficiently
and cost-effectively, with minimal
impact on the community.
Council says it has progressed
designs and environ-
mental approval for both sites
at Oxford Falls, which will
achieve the required protection
against flooding. Council
has also revised options for
The Bends that reduce harm to
the environment and increase
potential for flood prevention.
Council tells us it will
progress the detailed design,
approvals and procurement
for the Oxford Falls Road West
flood improvement works,
including community consultation,
in the next few months.
Council will also soon progress
the alternative design at
The Bends, including concept
designs, identification of likely
environmental approvals and
community consultation.
Likewise detailed design,
approvals and procurement for
the Sydney Academy of Sport
flood improvement works are
expected to begin later in 2024.
Readers can follow progress
on Council’s Your Say page.
