Chapter 3New Skillsand RulesThis chapter introduces new skills and rules specific for this expansion. Table -: Skills for TheOld World Setting, includes both new skills and skills from the Genesys Core Rulebook that canbe used in this setting. The chapter also introduces some additional rules and summarizes rulesfrom the Genesys Core Rulebook and Realms of Terrinoth.General SkillsCrafting and managing gear is an importantpart of The Old World setting. To reflect this,we have split the original Mechanics skill intotwo separate skills: Crafts and Engineering. Inaddition, we have introduced a new Sailing skillthat covers activities related to river and seatravels which are also a big part of the setting.Crafts (Intellect)Crafts represents all kinds of simple craftingskills used to create or repair most mundaneitems. Woodcraft, smithing, shoe-making,boat building, tailoring - all fall in this category.Skilled craftsmen are irreplaceable assetsin groups of adventurers as they can keep thegroup's gear in fine condition.Your character should use thisskill if...• Your character tries to craft a sword or simplefirearm, build a house or a boat.• Your character attempts to repair a damagedweapon or simple piece of equipment.• Your character needs to identify any parts ortools necessary prior to completing a job.Your character should not usethis skill if...• Your character tries to design completelynew device. That would require an Engineeringcheck.• Your character tries to research the sciencebehind their craft, for example metallurgy.That would be a Knowledge (Academic) check.Craftsor Engineering?In The Old World setting, the Mechanics skill is replacedby two new skills: Crafts and Engineering.This differentiation was necessary due to gamebalance as damaging and repairing gear is muchmore important in the setting compared to the basicGenesys rules. However, two similar skills may leadto some confusion, so its important to rememberone general rule: crafts is for simple things, while engineeringcovers the more complicated ones.
