How about the Guided Walk:<br />
Winter Birds at Sevenoaks Wildlife<br />
Reserve (£8 on 2nd Feb) where<br />
one of the dedicated volunteers will<br />
help you spot all sorts. With the<br />
trees having shed their leaves, this<br />
is a good time to see the regular<br />
woodland species including goldcrest<br />
and treecreeper. There may well<br />
be flocks of overwintering siskin,<br />
and there are regular sightings of<br />
redwing, brambling and redpoll.<br />
On the lakes, the resident ducks<br />
are joined by shoveler, gadwall and<br />
wigeon, whilst there’s also the chance<br />
of seeing snipe and the elusive<br />
water rail. Take your binoculars and<br />
be sure to wear sturdy footwear.<br />
Afterwards head to the Visitor<br />
Centre to warm up with a hot drink.<br />
This is recommended for the over<br />

Happy New Gear<br />
If you’re looking for the challenge of a lifetime<br />
this may be just the ticket. St Wilfred’s<br />
Hospice in Eastbourne and St Michael’s<br />
Hospice in Hastings are encouraging people<br />
to sign up for a five day Hospices to Holland<br />
cycling challenge. It will take place between<br />
18th and 22nd September, so you’ve got<br />
time to pump up your tyres and oil your<br />
chain. Participants will be asked to raise<br />
sponsorship money for the cycle, which will<br />
pass along the south coast, across the Channel,<br />
and then through cycle-friendly cities and<br />
countryside in France, Belgium and Holland.<br />

Castle Competition Time<br />
The kids are back to school<br />
so it must be time to start thinking<br />
about February half term! Hever Castle will<br />
be holding Eco Week and have all sorts of fun<br />
activities planned. They are inviting children to<br />
create a sustainable sculpture with a historical theme.<br />
The winning entry will enjoy a free visit to the Castle<br />
and Gardens for their class! Completed models should<br />
be delivered to Hever between Monday 29th Jan and<br />
Wednesday 7th Feb; voting will take place from Saturday<br />
10th Feb and the winner will be announced on<br />
