Newsletter
DECEMBER 2023
Letter from our CEO
Peggy Adams Animal Rescue
League has been here for the cats
and dogs in our community since
1925. Thanks to the support of
so many friends, volunteers, and
donors we have continued to meet
the needs of homeless animals for
almost 100 years.
Today, as the number of animals in need and the cost
of care increases, we count on your support more
than ever. In the past year, our team has served over
35,000 cats and dogs!
Many programs and services offered at Peggy
Adams Animal Rescue League are highlighted in this
newsletter. In addition to our adoption center, we
provide veterinary services to community pets with
basic veterinary care including vaccinations and spay
and neuter surgeries.
Preserving the human animal bond is paramount to our
mission and at the heart of all that we do. Safety Net
helps pets and their owners who are facing challenges
and strives to keep animals in their homes with their
families versus being surrendered to the shelter.
During this season of giving, please remember our
animals in your year-end giving plans. If you would
like to work with our animals, consider joining our team
of volunteers or fostering a pet in your home.
Thank you for your assistance. It makes a difference
and will help us continue to save lives every day.
What’s happening
in the Shelter?
Enrichment Program
Our shelter enrichment program helps reduce the stress and boredom
of kennel life for our dogs and cats by stimulating all their senses and
ensuring their minds stay healthy and active. All shelter animals benefit
from enrichment programs, but they can be especially valuable for longterm
residents and animals who tend to get stressed quickly in kennels.
Our team likes to have fun with it too! From Taco Tuesdays to seasonal
celebrations, things never get old for our animals. Examples of
enrichment include a variety of healthy snacks like lick mats and veggies,
daily play with new and exciting toys, and even splashing around in a
kiddie pool on a hot day!
We are always in need of enrichment materials.
to see how you can help!
A Special THANK YOU
Volunteer Spotlight
Highschoolers and young adults from Connections,
a nonprofit education center in Florida that
empowers students and young adults with
autism, helped prepare packages of pet food for
distributed through Peggy’s Pantry to pet owners
in need of assistance. Participants loved being able
to help with this project that makes it easier for those
in need to care for their furry family members and
their efforts are greatly appreciated!
It was the eighth year for the popular Bark
Back Benefit music festival. Local band, Spred
the Dub, alongside 10 other rocking bands,
took over Bryant Park in Lake Worth Beach
on Saturday, October 28. The annual First
Responders Runway Show spotlighted ten
dogs up for adoption who were walked down
the runway by representatives of Palm Beach
County Fire Rescue and Palm Beach County
Sheriffs Office. Six of our dogs were adopted
at the event! Food trucks, vendors, artists, and a
car show also filled the park that day.
Peggy Adams would like to extend a big thank
you to event founders Jacque Batcha and Mick
Swigert, the planning committee, emcee Jean
Williams, the musicians, Palm Beach County Fire
Rescue and Sheriff’s Office, and everyone who
sponsored and attended! For more information,
Happy Tails
Linda Adopted 10/1/22
“Linda is doing so well in her new home.
We are so blessed to have her, she’s so
sweet and relaxed. Her favorite thing
to do is play with her squeaky toys and
go on walks around the neighborhood!
Thank you so much Peggy Adams for
giving us the opportunity to bring
Linda home.”
Pinky Adopted 8/22/23
After many years in her loving home, the
passing of her owner brought 11-year-old
Pinky to Peggy Adams to look for a new
family. After several weeks of love and
attention in foster care, Pinky was adopted
by Kathleen H. Pinky came to us through our
Peace of Mind Program, an estate-planning
option that provides for the care and
well-being of your pets when you are no
longer able to care for them. Learn more at
Lily Adopted 12/3/22
“Lily was named in memory of my 17 year
old beloved cat, Lucy, and is very happy
in her new home. She especially loves
going out her cat door into the screened
patio and chasing the lizards. Sometimes
she brings them in alive as a ‘gift!’ Lily
also loves tossing her toy mice.”
MISSION MOMENT
Saving Fanta through Olivia’s Fund
Fanta was found limping outdoors, struggling to care for a litter of kittens. When
she arrived at our shelter, X-rays confirmed that fractures in her hip were causing
pain when she moved. Fanta needed an expensive specialty surgery to regain
her mobility, and through Olivia’s Fund we were able to send Fanta to an expert
surgeon. Fanta healed beautifully in foster care, and just a few days after she
returned to the shelter, she was adopted into her new forever home! All of Fanta’s
kittens were adopted as well, leading to a happy ending for all.
Donations to Olivia’s Fund allow us to provide expensive specialty surgeries
and veterinary care for our shelter animals.
Last Litter Program
Mama Luna is ready for a relaxing retirement
thanks to Peggy Adams’ Last Litter Program! If
your pet has a litter of kittens or puppies that
you can’t keep, we’ll waive our $50 care fee
for the entire litter while providing mom with a
free spay surgery. The puppies or kittens will find
their forever families, and mom will return home
without having to worry about future unplanned
pregnancies.
The Last Litter Program is helping us stop the
cycle of unplanned pregnancies and pet
overpopulation in Palm Beach County. Spaying
or neutering your dog or cat is one of the most
important decisions you can make for their
preventive health care – learn more about our
services at PeggyAdams.org/spayorneuter.
TRAINING COURSES
FOR DOGS
Direct from Foster Program
Meet Josie, a sweet and friendly 2-year-old pup who is a graduate of
our Direct from Foster Program. This newly revamped program allows
us to regularly pull dogs from Palm Beach County Animal Care and
Control and put them directly in foster care without worrying about
having enough quarantine space here at Peggy Adams. Previously
the responsibility of fostering was placed on ACC, but the decision
was made, in partnership with the Palm Beach Shelter Dog Project,
to transition the primary foster caregiving and management to Peggy
Adams because of our well-established foster program.
Since the change, we have seen an uptick in foster volunteers wanting to
support this program and are hoping to reach new people interested in
fostering dogs like Josie – especially large dogs. If you are interested in
becoming a foster, learn more at PeggyAdams.org/foster
