South Mill Arts?
Did you know that when you buy a ticket,
very little of the ticket price
is kept by the venue.
As standard, touring companies
and productions take between
70-80% of all Box Office takings.
We pay credit card fees,
VAT and Performing
Rights Society charges.
Overheads such as utilities,
wages, insurance and
maintenance - it all adds up!
Even after the Town Council
grant we still need £2,400 a day
to keep us running.
So, from a £20 ticket, South Mill Arts
keeps £5.40 from the ticket price...
and as we are not-for-profit, every
penny goes straight back in!
That is why your support is so important to us!

none. In 12 years the band have over 600 gigs
under their belts across the length and breadth
of the UK and abroad in over twenty different
countries worldwide.
The band are firmly established in many of the

year after year. They regularly tour Europe and
have played in 22 different countries worldwide.
Their adventures have lead them to appear on

Beyond Reasonable Doubt

A highly charged courtroom drama written by
Jeffery Archer – the master storyteller. Sir David
Metcalf a famous high court lawyer is accused of
killing his wife.
This tense and engaging drama begins in the court
room with Sir David defending himself against his
arch-rival. We go back to the night in question to
see how things really unfolded and then ultimately
to a truly stunning denouement after the trial has
concluded
Did he do it? As a member of the audience and
also the jury, you can watch the evidence unfold
and decide if he is telling the truth.

Panorama) presenter Nick Wallis has drawn on his
decade of covering the story to write a best-selling
book (‘The Great Post Office Scandal’) - it is this
book which forms the basis of his new show.
This is the true story of how hundreds of innocent
people fought to clear their names after being
pursued by the Post Office through the criminal
courts.
Proud pillars of their communities were stripped of
their jobs and livelihoods. Many were forced into
bankruptcy or borrowed from friends and family to
give the Post Office thousands they did not owe.
The really unlucky ones were sent to prison.
Currently being adapted into a primetime ITV
drama starring Toby Jones, this jaw-dropping,
unique and gripping story is now the subject of an
unmissable stage show.

The Acoustic Club: A local community club supporting local bands and offering
first opportunities to young professionals seeking music careers.
Retune: A Bishops Stortford based charity, offering opportunities to young
and old people alike, to share and experience live music as a creative outlet
to support mindfulness and wellbeing. Supporting the local music scene by
offering first opportunities and encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds
to share their passion for music.
South Mill Arts has been a platform for live music for over 60 years and has
seen the early careers of some of the very best musicians and bands in history
(Elton John, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder to name a few!) join us as we relaunch
this opportunity to the community. Who knows maybe one day you can tell
people – I saw… at South Mill Arts.

doors to the fascinating history of the
town and surrounding area. With our mix
of family friendly local history displays,
holiday activities and themed walks and
talks, we have something to offer the
whole family.
If you want to explore the history of the
town even further why not pick up a Town
Trail – they are free and available from the
Museum and Tourist Information Centre.

upper middle-class family dies, they find not only
the need to trim down their standard of living, but
for also some of the family at least to find gainful
employment. Moving initially to Bishops Stortford,
four of the family ultimately secured work as
artists for the Doulton Lambeth potteries.

From the Neolithic to the Second World
War: some geophysical survey highlights.

The Community Archaeology Geophysics Group
has surveyed over 50 sites in the 11 years since
it was founded. This talk will briefly introduce the
methods we use, and then show the results from
a variety of sites across SE England. The sites
include everything from a Neolithic long barrow to
a Second World War air raid shelter.
110 years of Aviation History in

Guy has a lifelong interest in Aviation Heritage and
has written and published several aeronautical
drawings and articles. He has recently developed
an ‘Aviation & Auto Heritage’ website and as a
Tour Guide with the RAF Museum, he has been
researching the history of London Colney Airfield
and the various squadrons that operated from
the site.
