Star designer Atil Kutoglu, who
is travelling between his ateliers
and showrooms in Vienna
and Istanbul, staged a fulminant
fashion show recently. He hosted
the event together with the Austrian
Chancellor’s wife Katharina Nehammer
at Palais Berg.
The gala under the motto ‘Building
Bridges’, where Kutoglu’s 2024
spring-summer collection was presented,
attracted 300 selected
guests. The proceeds of the gala were
donated to the Austrian Red Cross.
Kutoglu and Nehammer already
hosted a charity fashion show in the
summer of 2023, with proceeds benefiting
the earthquake victims in Türkiye
and Syria.
Mr. Kutoglu, after presenting your
collection at fashion shows in New
York and Paris, how do you feel about
staging a big event in Vienna in cooperation
with Katharina Nehammer?
It is a great feeling to show my new
collection in my favourite city and my
home-base Vienna again. The charity
aspect is very important for my
dear friend Katharina Nehammer and
me. It gives more depth and meaning
to our activities. It’s a great feeling to
help people in need through my profession.
Being creative and pleasing
people with new ideas in a sophisticated
way is very rewarding to me.
Mrs. Nehammer and I hope to collect
even more donations for charities
with future events under the motto
‘Building Bridges’.
Did you do charity work before?
I took part in many international
charity events before. For example, I
designed t-shirts for ‘Fashion targets
breast cancer’ in New York, with proceeds
going to breast cancer awareness
and research. Ralph Lauren was
also my fellow designer participating
in this project. I also took part in
many different charity organizations
in Türkiye.
Why did you choose Vienna as the
home-base of your company?
I came to Vienna for my university
studies and fell in love with the city
and its culture. Not only was I supported
by the people around me
when I began my career as a fashion
designer, but I also made many deep
friendships. I adore the various great
museums and artists who have been
part of the Austrian culture. It is very
inspirational for me to work in such
an environment. The relative short
travel distance via plane to my hometown
of Istanbul, where I spend half
of every month, is also a benefit of
Vienna, in comparison to other cities
like New York or Paris.
