Candy Cane Lane, about a man on a mission to win his 

neighbourhood’s annual Christmas home decoration 

contest. After Chris (Eddie Murphy) inadvertently makes 

a deal with a mischievous elf named Pepper (Jillian Bell) 

to better his chances of winning, she casts a magic spell 

that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life, and wreaks 

havoc on the whole town. At the risk of ruining the 

holidays for his family, Chris, his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis 

Ross), and their three children must race against the 

clock to break Pepper’s spell, battle deviously magical 

characters, and save Christmas for everyone. Great fun.

The Atterbury Theatre is getting into the holiday spirit and they want 

you to join in the fun! They will be decking their halls for a spectacular 

Christmas pop-up shop - a winter wonderland where the festive vibes are

The Voortrekker Monument is going big again! They will be hosting nine 

days of pure fun and festivities leading up to the Day of Reconciliation.

SKIN DEEP 

Lisa Robertson has always been drawn to the pageant scene. 

But since beauty is more than just skin deep for her, she teaches others 

how to look and feel beautiful ... from the inside out. 

Her entry into the pageant world as a 

young girl marked the beginning of a 

journey that would not only shape her 

confidence and self-esteem, but later 

her career too. And while the glitz 

of the industry often overshadows 

its deeper meaning, Lisa Robertson 

simply found joy in the journey. 

For her, it was about instilling skills 

and confidence, rather than winning 

a crown. In time she built up a kind 

of resilience that would later become 

a shield against the challenges of 

school bullying. 

“I was looked down upon for many 

reasons. From having bad teenage 

skin to being too skinny, and later on 

for having the incorrect body shape 

for runway. The list goes 

on. And so I’ve had to 

overcome those challenges 

through building selfconfidence 

and knowing 

my true value, which really 

helped me a lot over 

the years.” 

No stranger to hard 

work, Lisa used these skills to run 

a modelling school when she 

was just 16. There she had about 

40 young girls who completed a 

mentorship programme under her 

guidance. Proof that age is just a 

number! Although she ventured into 

something completely different after 

school, the allure of the modelling 

and fashion industry remained a 

constant thread. 

Her commitment wasn’t limited to 

the runway though. She was also 

involved in mentoring, and organising 

photoshoots and fashion shows

which wove her into the fabric of the 

industry. Fast forward a few years, 

and she opened the doors of ACE 

Models Pretoria East, and later her very 

own Quaintrelle Styling and Etiquette, 

where she specialises in model and 

corporate identity styling. 

“My model identity styling 

programme caters to ages five to 25, 

focusing on self-confidence, etiquette, 

and poise from the inside out. My 

holistic approach extends beyond 

external appearances, fostering a 

foundation for someone to thrive 

in any sphere, be it the modelling 

industry or corporate setting. 

“Through Quaintrelle (meaning a 

woman who emphasises a life of 

I live by the words ‘dare greatly’, because 

courage and a powerful vision are the 

keys to achieving greatness’’ 

passion, expressed through personal 

style, leisurely pastimes, charms and 

cultivation of life’s pleasures) I offer 

customised corporate packages. And, 

I’ve also just launched the Quaintrelle 

Exclusive Ladies Club, focused on 

women between the ages of 25 

and 55.” 

To Lisa, being a good mentor is 

all about passion, understanding, 

authenticity, and effective 

communication. It’s a journey that 

involves connecting with individuals 

on a personal level, guiding them to 

rediscover their true selves. 

“In an industry often overshadowed 

by stereotypes, I challenge the notion 

that one must conform to a certain 

appearance to be seen and accepted. 

My perspective on beauty goes 

beyond looks and emphasises kind 

hearts and a person’s energy.” 

She adds that one of her biggest 

career achievements was being a 

part of the transformation of a shy 

model into someone who confidently 

addressed thousands of viewers on 

Morning Live. 

Lisa’s charitable endeavours are 

focused on children. Working with 

organisations like ABBA House 

and CHOC, she strives to make a 

meaningful impact on 

young lives. While she 

draws inspiration from 

the professional world, 

her greatest muse is her 

six-year-old daughter, Isla. 

The desire to be the best 

version of herself for Isla 

fuels her dedication and 

passion. In the whirlwind of her life, 

Lisa finds solace in nature, self-care, 

good music, and spa time. Balancing 

work and personal moments, her 

typical day is mindful and intentional. 

Although she enjoys cooking, Lisa 

admits that her quirky habit lies in 

her love for cleaning - almost like a 

therapeutic time-out with special

You know that guy who lights up your radio every weekend on Jacaranda FM? 

Yes, we’re talking about Thabiso Khambule, the man of the hour in South African radio. 

But there’s more to him than just a silky-smooth voice and great music picks. 

Thabiso Khambule’s journey through 

the local entertainment industry has 

been nothing short of impressive. 

Today, he is the host of Jacaranda FM’s 

Weekends with Thabiso Khambule and 

the popular SA Music Show. On these 

shows, he shines a spotlight on some 

of the incredible music emerging from 

heart of the country – a show that has 

proven to hit the spot with listeners. 

However, he’s not just another radio 

personality. Having many layers, he 

shares the joy of finding passion in a 

number of unexpected places. We dive 

into ten interesting titbits that’ll make 

you appreciate Thabiso even more. 

He’s a major whisky fanatic 

When he’s not on the airwaves, 

well, Thabiso’s got a thing for 

whiskey. A true aficionado, he finds 

himself drawn to the intricacies and

Radio has always been a part of his DNA 

When asked about his favourite childhood memory, Thabiso says that radio 

was one thing that captured his attention from day one. “I remember sitting in 

front of my parents’ radio, recording my own radio show and playing it back to 

myself while I would intro or back announce a song that Jacaranda FM would 

play at that time. It was one of the few stations we could listen to in Mafikeng 

where I grew up.” Now, he’s come full circle, and absolutely living the dream as 

a radio pro. 

He would’ve been a pilot if it 

weren’t for his passion for 

broadcasting 

The radio wizard spills the beans - if 

he hadn’t embarked on a career in 

broadcasting, he would have had his 

sights set on the skies. Soaring as a 

pilot, chasing sunsets and touching 

the clouds. Needless to say, fate had 

other plans. And now, as he connects 

with listeners through the airwaves, 

he admits to finding a similar sense of 

adventure by sharing stories, music, 

and special moments. A kind of 

freedom that comes only by doing 

the things you truly love. 

Thabiso is a massive 

petrolhead 

He’s got a major passion for cars and, 

as a broadcaster, has revved up this 

passion by sharing some informative 

reviews on his social media platforms. 

With a heart that beats for horsepower 

and an eye that catches the sleek 

lines of design, Thabiso has woven his 

fascination for cars into an engaging 

online journey. “I have so much to say 

about cars in general – and I wanted 

to share these thoughts with my 

followers. So, buckle up, because every 

review is a journey, and I’m thrilled to 

have you ride shotgun with me.” 

Thabiso is an anti-bullying advocate 

That’s right! He’s on a mission to spread kindness and believes that bullying 

(and cyber-bullying) is a trend that needs to disappear. “The impact of bullying 

is tremendous and we need to change the way we approach interactions with 

each other. Being mean comes too easily to so many and with cyber-bullying 

especially, it is easier to hurt people we don’t even know.” He believes we should 

build each other up rather than tear each other down. Preach! 

Mpumalanga is his ultimate fave province 

Thabiso proudly celebrates the beautiful country we live in, and he’s been all over. 

But if he had to pick a fave, it’d be Mpumalanga. He swears by its beauty and calls 

God’s Window the ultimate jaw-dropper. “The province just brings rest to my soul. 

And the name of its most famous view is completely justified as you stand above 

or in the clouds, looking over the stunning province.”

Thabiso will never forget the 

conversation with his dad that just 

seemed to have stood out over 

the years. 

“My father told me to always respect 

people, even when they don’t 

deserve it. It’s hard to be kind when 

you are treated with cruelty. And 

so, it takes a lot to rise above it, but 

takes you further too.” Sure, it can be 

tough, but it’s what’s taken him far 

in life. Kindness, even in the face of 

disrespect, takes you places.

Spreading cheer 

A jolly garden ... masses of vivid leaves, gorgeous 

Christmas roses (which make great gifts) and a herb that packs in flavour 

We’re planting ... Coleus TrailBlazer, 

which is a first of its kind trailing 

coleus for cascading out of containers 

and hanging baskets or as a 

spreading filler for garden beds in 

semi-shade. Glory Road has vivid red 

and burgundy leaves in the shape 

of a maple leaf with a bright green 

edge. Road Trip has rounded velvety 

leaves in deep burgundy with a 

glowing pink centre and scalloped 

green edging. It flowers very late 

in the season, or not at all, which 

allows the plant to put all its energy 

into producing masses of colourful 

leaves that can spread up to 60cm. 

These easy to grow, low maintenance 

plant adapts to different light levels 

from full sun to semi-shade and 

needs only regular watering. Plants 

in containers or baskets do best with 

morning sun and afternoon shade.

Indoor plant of the month 

Don’t be surprised to see 

hydrangeas standing in as indoor plants 

for the festive season. Also known as Christmas 

roses, pot hydrangeas are perfect for decoration, 

as a thank-you gift or for under the tree. Once it has 

paid its dues indoors, a pot hydrangea can be planted 

out into a patio pot or in the garden to continue growing 

and flowering. The variety being used as an indoor starter 

is Hydrangea ‘Magical Revolution’ that blooms for up to 

six months, from summer through to autumn. It is compact 

with a mature height of 80cm and large flower heads that 

change colour as they age. Cut off the old flowers directly 

under the flower head. As an indoor plant it needs 

bright, indirect light, a cool room and consistently 

moist soil. Feed with a liquid fertiliser once a 

month. When planting out, choose a position 

with semi-shade and plant in composted 

soil that drains well.

Herb of the month 

Thai Basil Siam Queen is spicier than normal sweet 

basil, with a strong clove scent. Use it to flavour Thai 

cuisine, curries and stir fries. It is also a beautiful bushy 

plant, growing 40 to 50cm tall, with large green leaves, 

purple flowers and stems. Like other basils, however, it 

grows easily from seed and likes the same conditions - 

fertile soil that drains easily and up to six hours of sun, 

preferably morning sun and afternoon shade. Seed can 

be sown directly into the soil where the basil is to grow or 

germinated in a seed tray which is easier to manage. Mist 

the seed trays until the seeds sprout then feed the newly 

germinated seedlings with Margaret Roberts Organic 

Supercharger which contains macro and micronutrients. 

Transplant when the plants are large enough to handle 

and space 20cm apart. You can start harvesting when the 

plants have six to eight true leaves. Details: kirchhoffs.co.za 

Garden tasks for the festive season 

• If you are going away, move plants in pots and hanging 

baskets out of the direct sun if possible. Place the 

pots in saucers filled with gravel so that water doesn’t 

drain away. 

• Fertilise flowering plants to give them oomph to keep on 

flowering during the midsummer heat. 

• During hot, dry spells water deeply and regularly. Renew 

mulch to keep beds cool. 

• There is still time to sow marigolds, alyssum, bedding 

dahlias, California poppies portulaca and nasturtiums. 

• Don’t fertilise the lawn if you are going away. When 

returning from holiday, reduce the height of the 

lawn gradually. 

• Continue with succession planting of tomatoes, beans, 

carrots, beetroot, lettuce, and spinach or Swiss chard. 

• December is peak time for pests. Use organic or biological 

sprays to control aphids, white fly and red spider.
