4840 Gran Colegiata Campus, DO Toro, 2006 6 6 Headline news: Fariña does it again. As always, this winery
Bodegas Fariña has shipped a star. Will last.
4841 Spiritus Sancti, Gérard Depardieu, 2006 6 6 The name of the producer on the label guarantees interest,
DO Toro, Bodegas Bernard but the contents are first rate. This wine from Toro has all the
Magrez España aristocratic elements that make Toro such a fantastic area for reds.
4842 Bassus Pinot Noir, DO Utiel-Requena, 2007 8 8 This has turned out better than initially expected. It presents
Bodegas Hispano-Suizas a fine harmony of tannin, fruit and complex flavours now.
4843 Triumvirat, DOCa. Priorato, 2007 5 6 Do Priorat wines ever mature? This one is hardly showing
Terra de Verema signs of advancing. It is a mighty beast to be locked away in a
cage for a while longer.
4844 Cume do Pereiro, DOC Douro, 2006 7 7 Still very tannic with oak that provides neat counterpoints
Domingos Alves de Sousa to fruit flavours. It needs a little more time.
4845 Cume do Pereiro Reserva, DOC Douro, 2005 7 8 Very clever blending and use of oak has made this an
Domingos Alves de Sousa outstanding Douro example. Ready.
4846 Valduero Una Cepa, DO Ribera 2005 8 8 Very fine wine, from one of the finest of the wineries of
del Duero, Bodegas Valduero, Ribera del Duero. Enjoy now for its muscle or wait for it to
Founders’ Choice soften further.
4848 Vinho Verde, DOC Vinho Verde, N.V. 10 10 A chance to reminisce and dream of the summer.
João Serra Private Reserve This recalls the summer of 2007. Must be opened soon.
4849 Mouras de Arraiolos Reserva Branco, 2007 8 8 Big, pungent white. High acidity covering much of the fruit.
DOC Alentejo, Adeja das Mouras
de Arraiolos
4850 Quinta da Barreira Reserva, 2007 7 8 A firm favourite from a hot, inland region, it has plenty of
Vinho Regional Estremadura, José Gaspar acidity to balance cooked pear and apple flavours.
4851 Fiúza Merlot, DOC Ribatejo, 2007 8 9 A really outstanding wine. Australian know-how with ripe
Fiúza & Bright Portuguese fruit. Close to ready.
4852 Mouras de Arraiolos Reserva Tinto, 2005 8 8 Big, rich, fruit laden wine with bags of sustaining tannins.
DOC Alentejo, Adeja das Mouras A good keeper, although it is much softer than before. Enjoy
de Arraiolos when required.
4853 Solar Jordões, DOC Douro, 2006 7 8 A powerful wine that is drinking in towards its maturity.
Casal dos Jordões Although it is softening, it has still some way to go to reach
full softness and velvet fruit.
Port
See general note on page 4.
4854 Opimian Dry White Port N.V. n/a n/a Unusual. Powerful flavour to be served well chilled, even over
cubes of ice.
4855 Opimian Finest Reserve Port N.V. n/a n/a Ripe, currantish, sweet and delectable, but not very
memorable.
4856 Opimian Late Bottled Vintage Port 2003 n/a n/a Very interesting “vintage” port characters without the need
[Filtered] to decant.
4857 Opimian Late Bottled Vintage Port 2002 n/a n/a The other side of the coin, here is a wine of a single year.
[Unfiltered] It is now depositing a large sediment and will need to be
decanted before serving.
4858 Opimian Crusted Port, Bottled 2004 n/a n/a Rich and very fine. Plums, mulberries, vanilla and coffee.
4859 Opimian Tawny Port, 10 Years Old N.V. n/a n/a Apricot coloured with apricots in the bouquet, but it is very
soft, the tannins being less obtrusive than the fruit acidity.
