Lot # Wine Year M D Comment
4790 Sauvignon de Saint Bris AC 2007 9 10 Needs drinking. It is only really good when very youthful.
4791 Bourgogne Chardonnay AC, 2008 7 8 Very refined. In no way are these Burgundian Chardonnays
“Fleurs du Printemps” as rich or as expressive as those of the new World, but this is
good wine.
4792 Bourgogne Aligoté AC, “Fruits d’Eté” 2007 8 9 Excellent. Lamblin has always produced good Aligoté. This is a
typical wine of the Auxerre terroir.
4793 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain AC, 2007 8 8
“Raisins de l’Automne”
4794 Côtes de Beaune-Villages AC, 2007 8 8
4795 Volnay AC, 2007 7 8
4796 Aloxe-Corton AC 2007 7 8
4797 Gevrey-Chambertin AC 2007 7 8
4798 Nuits-Saint-Georges AC 2007 8 8
4799 Riesling-Traminer Icewine, 2007 7 8 Still a local beauty, it has been delicious on every occasion
tasted. Still plenty of vigour and life, if stored in a cool, dark
cellar.
4800 Chardonnay 2007 9 9 This has not developed to any significant degree, so open the
bottles and enjoy soon.
4801 Cabernet Franc Reserve 2007 9 9 This was the most exciting wine from the Black Prince Winery
when first tasted. It has developed well, won a number of
prizes and tastings, but it has insufficient extract to go much
further. Drink now.
Wine Review 2010
These six wines from Burgundy all come from a vintage of
middling quality. None of them have any great level of
fruit or ability to develop, given that they have tannin and
fruit acidity, but not much generosity. This means that they
will gradually move from fresh, fruity and attractive towards
dry, acidic and dull. In January 2010, tastings showed that
they have come a long way and are still in good condition.
Over the many years that Opimian have majored on the
Champagnes of Gardet & Cie, it has grown significantly
larger and more successful, yet it remains a family owned,
private company known to the most famous Champagne
houses as “the smallest of the big houses, the largest of the
small”. To Opimians’ it remains France’s best kept secret.
Champagne is not released from the dark cellars carved
in the white limestone underneath the vineyards until it is
ready to drink. All of the Gardet wines should be cherished,
savoured and enjoyed as, and when, thirst and an appropriate
moment calls for a celebration.
